Description: This book uses unique picture illustrations with numbers corresponding to actual CT images to provide basic information on CT applications and pathology, along with how to visualize and differentiate disease.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide basic background on CT, how it works, when to use this modality, side effects, and pathology. This is a worthy objective, but somewhat basic for radiology residents, depending on their level. The objectives are met overall.
Audience: This book is written for undergraduates, radiology residents, radiologic technologists, or anyone wanting basic CT information, according to the author. I would only disagree with the audience of radiology residents, as this book is too basic and lacks certain pathology.
Features: CT physics, study protocols, radiation exposure, appearance, and a discussion of pathology are all included in this book. Using images correlated to numbered pictures is a great way to learn. The only shortcoming of the images is the lack of color markings that can make some of the notations difficult to see. I had some disagreement with the modality for some studies, but those choices can be physician or institution dependent.
Assessment: This is a quality publication with good content that will be a very good basic book for the beginner. Although it lacks some depth with respect to disease, I don't believe the intent of the book was to be comprehensive.
