About the Author

An English graduate with a poetry piece published in an anthology several years ago, Darek Leslie is just now breaking into the world of novel fiction literature. He wrote several short stories in the college Silhouette Magazine. During his travels abroad, making friends from Singapore to Romania and working on security detail at the International Convention Center in Israel for Yitzhak Rabin, Darek took Terrorism and International Conflict, Negotiation and Resolution at Hebrew University. Having obtained his masters in Criminal Justice, Darek settled back in Boston and has worked the past 12 years at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
There are a few things that the typical journalistic biography won’t tell you about me beyond my favorite color and that I’m disturbed that 4-cheese pizza is the most they’ll give me when, clearly, an 8-cheese pizza would be twice as good. For one thing, I’m a Maniac, born and raised in Maine and will always consider myself “from Maine” no matter how many years I spend in Taxachusetts. There are, of course, more important parts of my life, such as my love for my daughter Alicia, the cutest little girl on the face of God’s green earth. She’s the joy of my life, giving me new purpose in the darkest hours. She is a constant inspiration for me. Then there’s my biologic family who all live in Maine (with the exception of the coolest Aunt one could ever hope for) whom I see once a month (which isn’t nearly enough). I’ve been fortunate to make friends far and wide though, and have a spiritual brother in Singapore and sister in England as well as friends in all corners of the world. With the help of one too many bowls of ice cream, they have helped make me the well-rounded person I am today. Of course, the biggest inspiration for me is God. The center of my life since I was born, He has helped me through the hardest times of my life and has been my constant joy.

Maybe it's unfair to give this 4 stars considering I'm not a teenager and that the first person writing was from a teenage girl's perspective. It was a fun read, and tough to put the book down as each chapter ended at a point that I NEEDED to know what happened next! I'm definitely recommending this to my friends who have teenagers and any friends who like teen novels! I checked out his website and it looks like this might turn into a string of books with the main character - can't wait for them to come out!

What a first novel! I'm not a teenager, nor a girl, nor a swimmer and I loved this mystery. I'd like to see a sequel. Paige could be another Nancy Drew. Is there one coming?
