For the first time in the band’s nearly forty–year history, here is the story of The Cure—virtual inventors of alternative music—from someone who was there at the very beginning: Lol Tolhurst, the band’s co–founder, co–songwriter, and lifelong friend of lead singer Robert Smith.
Smith prefers to let the band’s songs speak for themselves, making Cured the only insider memoir of the group that has helped generations navigate their angst–filled teen years. From Smith and Tolhurst’s early childhood to the band’s heyday, Cured illuminates and surprises in equal measure. Tolhurst mines the band’s peak years (19761989) to produce never–before–told tales of The Cure, shining a light on the mercurial and fascinating Robert Smith. Revealing the highs and lows in a lifelong relationship, Cured is a touching personal odyssey of triumph, despair, and ultimately understanding and redemption.

This simple inspiration would create one of the most influential, critically acclaimed, and commercially successful groups of modern times: The Cure. Starting in 1978, Lol and The Cure would chart an impressive selection of achievements that includes selling over 27 million units worldwide and earning 40 Platinum and Gold Records in the US, Europe, and Japan. Lol, who continues to perform, makes his home in Santa Monica.
