About the Author

Jim Rogers has lived along Southern Oregon's Elk River for more than four decades. A local logger-turned-environmentalist, he devoted much of his life to protecting the old-growth forests of Elk River, including two wilderness areas.

Teresa Bird lives on the Southern Oregon Coast and has spent time with Jim exploring the woods of Elk River and soaking up his knowledge and experiences. She compiled Jim's stories into this publication for the Kalmiopsis Audubon Society, with the counsel of Ann Vileisis.

Ann Vileisis is the president of the Kalmiopsis Audubon Society. She has worked with Jim on local conservation issues for many years and was honored to write the introduction about him. She is also the author of three books: Abalone, Kitchen Literacy, and Discovering the Unknown Landscape.
