Overview

Daddy's Gone A Hunting by Mary Higgins Clark, Jan Maxwell

In this new novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author Mary Higgins Clark, the reigning “Queen of Suspense,” a dark secret from a family’s past threatens the lives of two sisters, Kate and Hannah Connelly.

When the family-owned furniture firm, including the mansion where priceless antiques are kept, explodes into flames in the middle of the night, Kate must escape to save her life. But the suspicious circumstances point to her involvement. Was the explosion set deliberately? Why was Kate, a gorgeous CPA for one of the biggest accounting firms in the country, on the premises at that hour? And why was Gus, a retired and trusted employee, with her? Now Gus is dead and Kate lies in the hospital gravely injured. Hannah, Kate’s sister and a rising fashion designer, must discover what drew them there and what dangerous secrets lies hidden in the ashes. Step by step, in a novel of dazzling suspense and excitement, Mary Higgins Clark once again demonstrates the mastery of her craft that has made her books international bestsellers for years. Daddy’s Gone A Hunting presents the listener with a perplexing mystery and a fascinating cast of characters—one of whom may just be a ruthless killer.

Good Mystery and Ending. Really enjoyed MHC's latest book. It held me right to the end. Had a good beginning, grabbing your interest and held your attention right to the end. Sometimes her books are formula driven, but this one had more interest and suspence.

Mary Higgins Clark has written another fine suspense novel. The story focuses mostly on Hannah, who works tirelessly to discover the mystery behind the explosion that leaves a man dead and her sister's life hanging in the balance. I was stumped to figure out who was causing all the problem for Hannah and was totally blindsided when the bad person was finally revealed. If you like Mary's stories, you'll love this one even more.

Mary doesn't leave her readers disappointed. This book grabs you from the first page. Opens up with the daughter of a antique furniture owner going to the warehouse with a retired employee because she wants to show him something while walking up the stairs she smells gas and tries to get out to no avail the employee dies in the explosion and she is in a coma. While insurance investigators are doing their job a body turns up under the foundation which happens to be the body of a girl who has been missing for 28 years. Throw in a few cute guys a homeless guy and a story is wove with twists and turns that you wouldn't believe.
