About the Author

In addition to being a wife and mommy to an exquisite son and daughter, Tracy Goodwin is also the #1 Bestselling author of sweeping Historical Romances fraught with passion, hope, danger, and redemption. Not surprising, having created epic tales of happily-ever-afters since she was a little girl. As her imagination blossomed, so did Tracy's stories of heroes and heroines living in magnificent estates surrounded by landscapes the vivid colors of Impressionist paintings. What is more romantic than stories of forbidden love and redemption, of flawed heroes and heroines overcoming obstacles to be rewarded with an epic romance and a happy ending?

What could be more touching than Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy declaring his love for Elizabeth, Emma finding love in the familiar visage of Mr. Knightley, or Charlotte Bronte's Jane returning home to Mr. Rochester at last? Such were her thoughts when Tracy read Judith McNaught's novels, eventually meeting the author in person. This helped Tracy acknowledge that writing Historical Romance was her "dream." As her own characters developed, their stories yearning to be told, Tracy's husband encouraged her to write the novel of her heart, Dance with Deception. With that, the Scandalous Secrets series began proving that dreams do come true...

I read the original Dance with Deception and didn't think I could love Sebastian and Gwen's story more until this exclusive edition. From the very first page, you can read that the story is stronger and tighter. I was hooked again! Dance with Deception is a sensual, romantic and emotional love story filled with vivid characters, lush scenery and a suspenseful plot. The hero is just fabulous. He is dashing and witty. A former rake, he is strong, loving and determined to get what he wants at all costs. What he wants is Gwen. He is willing to do or say anything to marry her, though her father has much more sinister plans. Sebastian's motivations and guilt at lying to his wife broke this reader's heart.  But, the hero and heroine work through things together proving that patience is a virtue because through the course of their trials and tribulations, they grow and their relationship evolves. This is a grand romance that  matures the farther you venture into the novel. Sebastian and Gwen are the epitome of an epic love story. The heroine has many layers. At a time when a woman's place was to be seen and not heard, to heed her father then her husband, this novel delves deeply into what that was a like for a woman in that situation. The fact that Gwen fights for what she wants (even more so now than in the first version) is stressed but Gwen still understands the scandal it will cause and refuses to involve Sebastian in her downfall. He won't take no for an answer, leading to a romantic wedding. Of course as with any good romance Dance with Deception is froth with drama. Gwen's response to her father's demands, her family secrets and her husband's lie was completely justified. This is a woman who suffered from emotional abuse at the hands of her father as a child coming to the realization that those closest to her had lied to her for her entire life. Not an easy thing to accept, especially in the 19th century. Trust me, the author layers her characters in such a way that if one is truly vested in the book, you will laugh and cry with the characters. This is an emotional read. Those are hard to pull off but this author does so with vivid characters, creative plot twists, and a fluid writing style. This version was better than the first. The love the author feels for the characters is evident. I always think of that when I'm reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander Series or Judith McNaught's  Westmoreland series. The authors love the characters and it shows on the page.  That was the case with Dance with Deception. This is a sensual, romantic and emotional read that I highly recommend. I can't wait for the rest of the series!

I *LOVED* this novel. It came recommended by a friend and it was a delightful. The characters are vivid - I've seen that word used in other reviews and it describes the characters to a T. The plot is interesting and fast paced, it also keeps you guessing. The hero and heroine are witty and have chemistry that is undeniable. The secondary characters are just as funny and likeable.  More please is all I can say - more please! I can't wait for the sequels.

Happy to have the series back! When I heard Dance with Deception was being released as part of a trilogy, I was so excited. It is one of my favorite books and this version was incredible. The author writes a sensual, clever, witty romance froth with emotion, drama and suspense.  Well written, this version is better than the last. I had wondered about the proof reading in the original version but ignored it because the story was so strong. No need to here. This version needs no excuses. It is a beautiful love story and I couldn't be happier with the final product. As a few of the Author quotes stated, Tracy Goodwin is a promising author. She is one to look out for.

This was such an emotional read! From the very first page with the heroine running out of the ballroom, I felt like I was a part of the story. The depth of emotions in Dance with Deception touched my heart and left me wanting more. I read it in two sittings! I couldn't put it down. Hopefully the sequels will be as romantic, suspenseful and emotional as this one. If you want an emotional read that delves into the emotions of the characters (good and bad) and leave you liking them even more for it, Dance with Deception is for you.

Dance with Deception reminds me of the classics. Dance with Deception reminds me of the classic historical romances that I love and reread repeatedly. Romances by Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Theresa Meideros.  Romances with heart and passion and characters that you grow to love and truly care for. I loved the first version but must admit that the enhanced version is even better than the original. It has extra scenes and a more detailed point of view of the heroine. It was quite clear in the first version why the heroine felt trapped into marrying the man her father chose for her, her lack of rights and the duty placed upon women in the 19th century but this version delves deeper into just how much Gwen wants out and allows the audience to see her fight more for what she wants. The hero is still powerful, charming and every bit as loveable as I remember. The secondary characters still jump off the page. The writing is fluid and quick paced and the scenery is as lush as I remembered. This is a book I have read and reread and this new version has only improved upon a story I love. I will reread this again and again and eagerly await the next in the series.

Dance with Deception is a romantic, sensual, colorful historical that touched my heart. It was a true love story with vivid scenery, fleshed out characters and a plot that kept me guessing until the end. Dance with Deception made me laugh, cry and smile uncontrollably at the end. It was such a well written book! The author hooked me from the first page to the last. Sebastian Montgomery is my favorite hero by far. A reformed rake, he gave up his "bachelor ways" for his sister when their mother died. He is immediately attracted to Gwen and their chemistry is off the charts. Gwen is a strong willed heroine constricted by the duties placed upon women in the 1800s. The author made her perspective quite clear: she has no legal rights and must marry the man her father chooses for her. Gwen rebels as best she can but at the end of the day Gwen knows what is expected of her. She is aware of what  scandal would ensue if she didn't marry the man of her father's choosing yet still fights tirelessly to own her own destiny. Sebastian, sensitive and smart with a keen intuition won't allow her to marry her father's choice. The hero has nothing but noble intentions and is ruthless in his desire to see them through, all the while loving the heroine. The heroine goes through the emotional ringer as many family secrets come to light. The characters are being manipulated and the hero/heroine actually work through things together. This made me love the story even more, love the characters even more, because the hero and heroine actually love one another enough to work through things together. There was a depth of emotion there unlike any I've seen recently. The author adds layers to the story with this insight. The characters seem real and I engaged with them, understood what they were feeling and why and felt for them. I cheered with them and shed some tears along the way. I can't believe how good this author was at expressing the depths of the characters emotions. I was truly engaged from beginning to end. What a great read!

I loved Dance With Deception! From the first page, to the last, it was an engaging tale of love, deception and,   ultimately, hope and forgiveness. Gwendolyn MacAlistair longs for love yet her callous father is forcing her into a marriage to a man she detests. Enter Sebastian Montgomery, a man of nobility, whose own father possessed  a rather ruthless nature. Gwen and Sebastian fall in love, but with that comes Gwen's dilemma: how can she follow her heart when it means defying her ailing father's dying wish? Meanwhile, Sebastian must decide just how far he is willing to go to make his love his wife. Dance With Deception expertly blends the history of the early Victorian era with the pure emotion of the characters involved. Imagine a time when women had no rights, when women were beholden to their guardians and where duty governed decisions. It is touching and quite poignant to read how Gwen wrestles with her choice, weighing the consequences and willing to sacrifice her own happiness for her duty to her father. It is equally as touching to see Sebastian do what he feels is necessary, all the while aware that it could destroy his relationship with Gwen. Reading the story of Gwen and her dashing Duke reminded me of some of my favorite historical romances by Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood. Also, as another reviewer stated, it is very much like the classics many of us know and love (the writings of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters). Like the classics, Dance With Deception weaves lush descriptions, romance, and raw emotion with well defined characters that the reader falls in love with. A friend recommended this novel to me. She loved it and she couldn't stop talking about it. I bought it and couldn't be happier that I did. This book delivers and the reader will laugh, cry and cheer these characters along their journey. The end of the novel is the most satisfying I've read in ages. Like my friend, I can't wait for Tracy Goodwin's next novel and I'm officially a fan for life. If you love historical romances and classics by Austen and the Bronte sisters, Read Dance With Deception. I can't recommend it enough.

Loved Dance with Deception. It was an engrossing read and kept me on the edge of my seat. The romantic tension between the hero and heroine was delicious! I couldn't get enough. The sights were described so colorfully that I could see and almost touch everything (the lake scene was one of my favorites). Well written and well paced, this novel was a solid read from page 1 to the end. On a personal note, reading the author's list of acknowledgements gave this reader insight into the person who wrote the book. How often do you see writers thank their readers, other authors who gave them support and autism/adhd/special needs moms? I looked at the author's website and it says all proceeds are going to autism treatment for one of her children. It gave me an even bigger appreciation for this novel, knowing that reading it means something personally to the writer. I appreciate the fact that every writer puts themselves out there with each book. Knowing there is appreciation or a greater cause made me feel fulfilled. Thanks for a great story.

Intriguing characters, a plot that keeps you guessing and a romance where the hero and heroine actually work through things together. This was a beautiful and emotional read. I laughed and cried with Sebastian and Gwen. I didn't want the story to end. I hope they appear in the sequels! Highly recommended read.

Gwendolyn MacAlistair just received some disturbing news. Her father is dying and he wants her married before he dies. He's already chosen the man to be her husband. Gwen is shocked by this news. She's not quite ready for a husband. She ponders how she can get out of this mess. She might even have some help. Well written and plotted, this book has a nice steady pace to it. The characters are three dimensional and so much fun. I enjoy the fact Gwen isn't going to just let her father marry her off. She's a strong woman and it makes the book even better because she is. Secrets are the down fall of many marriages. Ms. Goodwin hooks you with page one and then leads you through the book. While reading, you can feel things building to a fever pitch. What an exciting read this is. You must check out Ms. Goodwin's wonderful book. I found no issues. I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because you'll be thrilled you read it. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

Dance with Deception is my first read by Tracy Goodwin. Sebastian and Gwen's story is a pleasure to read. This well written book has lovable characters, some twisted characters, humor, action, loads of drama and a bit of sizzle. I look forward to reading more from Tracy Goodwin in the future. Dance with Deception is book 1 of the Scandalous Secrets series. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This is a great historical romance that flows really smooth. Gwen is a headstrong young lady who has a lot of ideas in a time where that is not encouraged. Her father, whom she is extremely loyal to, has professed to her that he is dying and his last wish is to see his daughter married. Unfortunately the man he wants her to marry is his longtime acquaintance, Kier who Gwen cannot stand. Then Sebastian comes on the scene. He was friends with Gwen and her brother when they were younger. Instant attraction for them both but Gwen cannot go against her father's wishes. Sebastian will pull out all the stops to get the woman he wants, even if he has to manipulate things. When dark family secrets come out, will anyone come out unscathed? Fantastic read!
