About the Author
But a funny thing happened as she finished Nine Days to Evil, her award winning novel of psychological suspense, Shakespeare, and nonstop-action. A supporting character, Aggie Mundeen, with her wry sense of humor, took over West's consciousness and demanded that West write a book about her…or maybe a series. The result, Fit to Be Dead, was 2013 finalist for the Lefty Award for Best Humorous Mystery. Next came Dang Near Dead, and West is currently at work revealing Aggie’s third and fourth romantic mystery adventures. Aggie is pleased.

Dollycas’s Thoughts Aggie, Meredith and Sam arrive at the BVS Dude Ranch and are immediately underwhelmed by the place but after meeting the owners and other visitors they decide to stick it out and try to enjoy themselves. When one of the employees of the ranch is thrown from her horse Aggie’s itchy feet tell her something is not right. When she learns the previous owners of the ranch died of unusual circumstances and their will contained some strange contingencies Aggie gets even more curious. Unlike the first story of this series, Fit To Be Dead Aggie listens to Sam and they work together to piece together the evidence and clues to try to find out what really happened. Being a detective he can get information Aggie could never get on her own. They are also working on their relationship although she still has a big secret. To get the most out of this story you need to have read the first book in this series to understand Aggie and Sam’s relationship. This book builds from the foundation set up there and continues. The mystery is pretty complex as it ties to the past history of the dude ranch and the lengths some people will go to get something they want. There are a variety of suspects and the setting itself adds to the adventure. 1800 acres is a lot of ground to cover and it is full of trails that can divert from the truth or lead you to it. Being from Wisconsin I enjoyed the references to my state and was surprised how many of the characters moved from here or close by. Nancy G. West has taken us to a fun place for this installment and while there is plenty of drama there is also plenty of humor. I really enjoyed Dang Near Dead and can’t wait to see where Aggie and her friends go next.
4 STARS I liked this second book of Aggie Mundeen mystery. It is full of drama, humor and action. The suspense is pretty good. I had no idea who the guilty parties were or there motive. Lots of suspects. It is a clean read. The three main characters do a lot together Aggie, Meredith and Sam. They decide to go to a dude ranch for a working vacation. No one else knows that Sam is a cop. Aggie starts getting to know the workers on the ranch and they talk to her. Aggie starts noticing a lot of things around the ranch and eavesdrop a lot. When a expert rider is thrown off her horse and things don't look right Sam decides to stay at the ranch and not let anyone know he is a detective. Aggie sneaks out after things quite to look over the ground and bags different things. Then two others show up to look around too. I liked that Sam and Aggie worked together in this book after the first lectures. I hope that Aggie tells Sam what she is hiding from them. I am glad they are getting closer slowly. I want to see more of Aggie and Sam work together again. The setting for this book is Texas hill country on a dude ranch. I look forward to reading the next book in the Aggie Mundeen Mystery series. I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Henery Press. I promised in return to give honest review o Dang Near Dead.
Dang Near Dead is fast paced, fun to read and an intriguing mystery.. Besides that it is educational. I was impressed by and interested in all of the details about the Texas Hill Country.

Aggie Mundeen, her love interest Detective Sam Vanderhoven of the San Antonio Police Department and her friend Meredith Laughlin are taking a small break at the BVSBar Dude Ranch in the Texas Hill Country t0 relax and recover from their balance following their encounter with the Health Club killer from book one, Fit to be Dead. Upon their arrival at the ranch they over hear a very loud argument between Ranch Manager Bertha Sampson and her assistant Vickie Landsdale. Once they check in with the smiling Ms. Sampson Aggie walks with Vickie to their cabin. Aggie finds Vicki friendly and very likable. After 18 year old Vickie, an expert horsewoman, is thrown from her horse and lies in a coma at the hospital in critical condition a distraught Aggie confides in Sam and Meredith that she does not believe it was an accident and begins investigating. Looking for answers to who could have done this to Vicki and why she also wonders if Vicki's fall could in some way be connected to the death of the original owners of the ranch years before. Sam warns Aggie to be discreet and use caution when asking questions, but Aggie has never been known to be subtle and soon finds her and her friends in danger. Aggie has more than a bad case of poison oak to worry about. Once again Nancy G West has given us a beautifully written cozy filled with humor and suspense. Her characters have individually different and very believable. Aggie is growing on me because even though I know she has to be in her mid to late thirties and obsessed with staying young I find myself liking her more and more. Sam, bless his heart must really love her quirks and all. I found myself misty eyed of Vicki's dilemma, and you will too. The story is so well done and the clues scattered throughout lead you in the right direction, I failed to figure it out until the very end. Looking for a great way to spend a few hours? Then pick up Dang Near Dead and enjoy yourself. Even though this is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone. I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
