Dangerous Duplicity by Sherry Joyce

Evan Wentworth, a cop from El Dorado Hills, California, is unable to overcome a traumatic tragedy he thinks he should have prevented. Bereft, he changes careers, attends New York's Parsons School of Design and becomes a highly successful Jackson Pollock-like artist who falls in love with Aurora Banfield, his mentor and owner of an elite Tribeca art gallery. Prior to taking his final exams, Evan vacations in St. Paul and becomes embroiled in solving the murder of the controller of one of the largest charter yachting companies in Nice. He meets Danielle DuBois, a captivating young teacher from a large family, who helps him overcome the guilt he carries. Her father's partner at Gaspard Yachting, Ryan Coltrane, becomes a prime suspect in the controller's murder and Evan's investigation unwittingly puts his life and her family in danger. Through lavender fields, to the ancient ramparts of St. Paul, to multi-million dollar yachts on the Côte d'Azur, this contemporary romantic suspense novel reminds us why solving a murder is both dangerous and multi-faceted. Secrets families withhold to protect one another may not always be kept with the best of intentions-sometimes creating dire consequences. Dangerous Duplicity is a search for redemption, justice among unforeseeable obstacles and the redeeming power of love.

Dangerous Duplicity is a tightly written contemporary romantic suspense that we’ve come to expect from author Sherry Joyce—and she does not disappoint in this, her second novel. There are more twists in this fast-paced murder mystery than the actual death-defying hairpin turns on the towering hills above the seaside in St.-Paul-de-Vence! Whether onboard multi-millions dollar yachts in the Riviera or diving under the sea, this adventure will take you on a wild ride with its intricate plot and memorable characters as they grapple with tragedy, grief, difficult decisions and the ultimate redeeming power of love! I liked that the people were authentic, their problems real and their feelings genuine! Can't wait to see more from ths talented author!

Reviewed by Samantha Dewitt (Rivera) for Readers' Favorite Evan’s life seemed to be on a great path, but one spur of the moment decision changed everything and led to an entirely new path. Now he finds himself in St. Paul, under the guise of a vacation from art school, but his real path is something entirely different. Meeting Danielle was never the plan, but when he does, it’s a meeting that he can’t soon forget. Not only that, but it turns into a very fortuitous experience for his original plans as well. Who would have thought that meeting the people important to Danielle would get him closer to resolving his own vendetta in Dangerous Duplicity by Sherry Joyce? This book is full of adventure and plenty of romance. Of course, the focus is on the happily ever after that you really can’t wait to see with the main characters. Each of them is intriguing and someone that you hope will succeed. The adventure, of course, was really exciting as well. Dangerous Duplicity by Sherry Joyce is a book you’ll enjoy, and it will leave you intrigued to find out even more about what is going to happen next, and what the characters are going to do. After all, there’s always more that can and may happen when a book ends like this one (but we won’t reveal what’s so special about that). You’ll want to read this book to find out more about these characters and to really immerse yourself in the story.

Reviewed by Romuald Dzemo for Readers' Favorite Dangerous Duplicity by Sherry Joyce is a hard-to-put-down thriller, a story that follows a man’s search into the mystery surrounding his younger sister’s death and a romance that brings him into very dangerous situation. Drama, murder, intrigue, investigation, arts, and duplicity are all bundled up in this thrilling novel. Evan Wentworth lost his sister tragically and has never gotten over the thought that he could have prevented her death. Evan follows his passion for art and works his way up to great success in Tribeca, New York, where he falls in love with his gallery owner and boss. During a trip to St. Paul-de-Vence, he meets Danielle DuBois, the daughter of a successful yachting entrepreneur. He intends to unveil the mystery about his sister’s case, but what awaits him is worse — he gets implicated in another murder that may cause great harm to the girl’s family. Sherry Joyce is a master of the craft and reading Dangerous Duplicity left me with the thought that the author could be an artist. I enjoyed the portrait of the protagonist and how the author shows readers how far guilt can drive someone. Evan may seem to be a serene, gifted and focused man, but there is a restlessness that compels him and sets him on edge. I loved the way the themes are carefully developed in the story. The writing is awesome, the setting gorgeous and colorful, the plot gripping. Sherry Joyce has a special gift for character and plot and I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is a great read if you're going on vacation, or you want to take a vacation in your mind. The story crosses continents from New York to the Mediterannean in France, and the author does an excellent job of placing the reader into these settings. I especially love the realism of floating on a yacht on sun-kissed azure seas. Combine the art world, murder, a ruthless killer, gorgeous lovers, and an array of well-developed side characters, and you are drawn into this alter world. Evan, an accomplished artist from New York and an ex-cop, meets Daniele, a teacher and French beauty. Layered into their budding romance is the murder of a close friend, a past tragedy that haunts Evan, and an ex girlfriend who throws a few wrenches into the romance. Evan is forced to dust off his detective instincts, skills he thought were permanently put to rest, to catch this clever killer. Linda Berry is the author of Hidden Part One, and Pretty Corpse.
