Overview

A Dangerous Love (Border Chronicles Series #1) by Bertrice Small

Adair Radcliffe is only a child when her family perishes in the War of the Roses, so her real father, the womanizing King Edward IV, takes her in, honoring his promise to her mother. Once Adair turns sixteen, the king marries her off without her knowledge - and to her later outrage - in a wedding by proxy. But when tragedy leaves her a widow twice over, Adair realizes that her already tenuous social position has sunk even lower. Now, all she can do is hope that the Scottish laird to whom she is sold will have mercy on her. But little does master or servant suspect that love knows no rank.

This was my first Bertrice Small book and all I can say is that I'm going back for seconds. The main character was presented with great depth. I could feel Adair's overwhelming spirit jumping right off the page. I look forward to reading the next book in this series!

Started off pretty good then it went downhill. Too long & too detailed of insignificant things. Will not read the rest of the series....

The main guy didn't come into the story till almost in the middle of the book. Her background was repeated too many times. Yes it is slow.

A Dangerous Love follows the life of Adair Radcliffe. Adair is an amazing heroine, she's headstrong, feisty, and independent. She is sold into slavery in Scotland to Conal Bruce. Conal makes Adair his mistress, but little does he know he wants so much more. Conal is pigheaded, powerful, and an all around man! Ms. Small's writing is amazing! This was the first book I read by her and it definitely will not be the last. :] Definitely Recommended!

I have a problem with the actions of Jane Radcliff. How can you fall in love with a man who basicly pimped you out to the king in exchange for an earldom and then choose to die beside him in battle while telling your prescious six year old to "stop that caterwalling" before shoving her into an excape tunnle with her nurse maid and dog? As a mother, I just don't get it.

It is so awsome when you hear another view of a specific family!

I was excited to start a new series and the description on the back of the book drew me in. However, once I started to actually read the book, I questioned my ability to choice interesting novels. The characters are very hard to become attached to, one reason being the fact that the main characters continue to die, and also because of the terrible dialogue throughout the book. Stories are constantly repeated which makes them become boring and lose their dramatic edge, and corny phrases are thrown in which makes me wonder if I am supposed to laugh or take this moment seriously. For Beatrice Small being such an accomplished writer, I expected more out of her delivery and would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.
