When I read the word "murder" and the heroine, Abigail being a little clumsy in the first chapter, embarrassing herself in front of a good looking guy, I was sold. I could not put this book down. I am partial to mystery based books as well as heroines that appear clumsy, as this will always add to a fun-filled romance book. Being clumsy happens to some of us when we are trying hard to impress so when I read books I can relate to, I see myself jumping right into the story. That being said, Abigail is also stubborn while Ryan is so very secretive. It was funny too as they keep getting their signals crossed each time. Absolutely loved the ending. As for suspense this book held it's own and I was only able to guess some of the parties involved much, much later. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Dangerous Secret is quite a page turner for me. It's an easy read and entertaining. This is a mix between romance, mystery and thriller. The characters are well build. The plot is great. Apart from some mis-typed or light grammar error I found, the story is worth reading. I gave it 5 starts because it kept me going until the last page. Well done!

This is a great romantic suspense with just the right amount of romance and suspense. At first, I was a little disappointed that the characters were so young. (College and Graduate age.) I tend to read books with characters closer to my own age. This disappointment soon disappeared as I was drawn into the story and I found that I could identify with these younger characters and their experiences. Best friends Abigail and Julia have summer jobs as desk clerks at the Washington Valley Hotel. Their boss is a handsome medical student, Ryan Newberry. Although dating is against the rules for co-workers, Abigail and Ryan manage to become involved. Abigail is haunted by the murder of her father when she was a young teen. Her father was a hotel manager and Abigails's new summer position, brings the memories flooding back. Her father's murder was never solved and Abigail is determined to solve the mystery. When several people at the hotel are murdered, Abigail links the new murders to her father's murder. She also links her new love interest, Ryan, to all the murders. Abigail puts herself in danger as she uncovers more and more of the truth. I enjoyed this book very much. I wasn't familiar with the writing of Jessica Lauryn. Since this book is a prequel to her Pinnacles of Power series, I will definitely be reading more books by Ms. Lauryn. (There are four books in the series including this prequel.) . ** spoiler alert ** It's been six long years without her father, and Abigail Mackenzie realizes there will always be a struggle to put her father's tragic death behind her. But, then Ryan Newberry walks into her life and suddenly there are clues about her father's shooting, and her hopes of solving the mystery behind his death becomes her top priority. Abigail wants justice, period. Ryan has heartache of his own as he still blames himself for the car accident that took his sisters life and has a hard time letting people get to close to him, so why is he so entranced with Abigail and her innocence. First things first though, there is something shady going on around them and he intends to solve the mystery. You see, Ryan was fired for an inter-office relationship and was black listed because of it. Only he knows the truth, the moment he stumbled across those shady ledgers he was terminated form his old job and it had nothing to do with his personal life. Now, he's stuck working in a new hotel, is determined to keep his ex, an ex, and is fighting his attraction to the lovely Abigail in the process. So when he and Abigail stumble across the very same shady dealings in the new establishment, he fears the past might be in danger of repeating itself. His problem, the death of Abigail's father, and the very same shady dealings are all tied together. Only this time Ryan only hopes this latest discovery won't lead him and Abigail down a path of danger from which he won't be able to protect them... Jessica Lauryn does an amazing job yet again drawing her readers in from the very start with amazing plot twists, action, and scorching hot chemistry between her hero and heroine. If you haven't already read this amazing series I definitely recommend the Pinnacle of Power Series starting from the very beginning. Although, I have to say each novel also could be a stand alone, it's so well written.  I began reading this series a little backward, meaning not in the order it was clearly intended and I'm not sure why, but reading this makes me want to go back and read the others once again. Great Job, Jessica, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Abigail MacKenzie dreams of being a teacher.  She and her best friend Julia decide to get jobs at a local hotel to help pay for their education credits.  But things take a deadly turn when Abigail discovers a clue related to her deceased father's murder. Abigail would love nothing more than to solve the mystery of her father's murder, and get her dad the justice he never had.  But she isn't expecting to discover the clue that will solve the mystery in the wallet of her new supervisor, Ryan Newberry. I really enjoyed Dangerous Secret by Jessica Lauryn.  Her characters are easy to relate to and I enjoyed seeing what some of my favorites were doing a couple of years prior to the other stories in The Pinnacles of Power Series.  This series is a perfect blend of suspense and romance!

Dangerous Secret (The Pinnacles of Power Prequel) by Author Jessica Lauryn What a great romantic mystery novel! As soon as I started reading "Dangerous Secret", I thought of it as a modern day version of the Nancy Drew Mystery Series of old. The protagonist, Abigail Mackenzie, is determined to find out who killed her father just six short years ago. Abigail is best friends with Julia, a lively redhead who is a free spirit that doesn't always play by the same rules as Abs. Both of these young women have found employment at a local hotel that is in the process of being totally renovated. Abigail finds herself reporting to the mysterious Ryan Newberry whose path she has crossed before when she worked at the ice-cream parlor. Despite the fact that he appears to have a secret, she is undeniably attracted to this handsome aloof man. Julia is smitten with the assistant manager, Shane Dempsey, who appears to have an agenda of his own. There is no dating allowed between employees at the Washington Valley Hotel yet Abigail catches Ryan in an affectionate embrace with Kimberley. Abigail is totally dismayed by this display of affection and Ryan is frustrated with his reaction to Abigail catching them in this embrace. To complicate their situation, two murders have taken place at the hotel and Abigail seems to think they might be connected to the death of her father. After all, there has been little crime in this quaint little town of North Conway and now three unsolved murders...two made to look like suicide, have taken place in a relatively short period of time. Abigail is now even more determined to get to the bottom of it. What Abigail doesn't realize is that Ryan is doing a little sleuthing on his own... Once I started reading "Dangerous Secret" by talented Author Jessica Lauryn, I could hardly put this book down. The mystery, the emotion, and the unexpected twists and turns grabbed my attention from the first page to the last. I look forward to reading another book in "The Pinnacles of Power Series". I definitely need to know more!

Dangerous Secret is the prequel story in The Pinnacles of Power Series.  Set a couple of years prior to the second book in the series, Dangerous Proposal, it introduces several of the main characters who we see throughout the series: Ryan, Abigail, Julia and Alec. This is the story of Ryan and Abigail, who meet by chance in an ice cream parlor.  The two share an instant attraction by Abigail's elation is short-lived when she discovers Ryan is carrying a business card belonging to the only witness to her father's murder. She comes to believe Ryan might have been involved, just before learning he's going to be her supervisor in her new job. Packed with intriguing characters, steamy love scenes and truly unique plot, Dangerous Secret is one of the best romantic suspense novels I've read in a while.  I look forward to reading more of Ms. Lauryn's stories!
