About the Author

Emmy Curtis is an editor and a romance writer. An ex-pat Brit, she quells her homesickness with Cadbury Flakes and Fray Bentos pies. She's lived in London, Paris and New York, and has settled for the time being, in North Carolina. When not writing, Emmy loves to travel with her military husband and take long walks with their Lab. All things considered, her life is chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny. And if you get that reference...well, she already considers you kin.

Review for Read Your Writes Book Reviews Dangerous Territory is an impressive debut from Emmy Curtis. It grabbed me from the opening chapter and held on right until the final page. When two strangers meet in a hotel bar, it leads to a night neither will forget. With the promise of never seeing each other again, they can let go and escape real of life with a night of no-strings passion. Fast forward three years later and reporter Grace Grainger is embedded with a team of soldiers in Afghanistan when they are attacked by insurgents. Her saviour comes in the shape of Pararescuer Josh Travers, the same man who has featured in her thoughts constantly since that night. And as dangerous as it is, never has hiding out in a cave been so sexy. For a novella it packs a punch. Hot meets heartfelt, action meets angst and if you enjoy military romances with a deeper accompanying storyline, then this is that. Emmy Curtis' writing flows at the perfect pace, is detailed, gripping, passionate and with a couple to love. And with secondary characters paving the way for more, Alpha Ops is a series that holds real promise. Copy received courtesy of Forever via Netgalley for an honest & unbiased opinion.

Totally enjoyable read. Well developed characters and story line even in it's short length. I stayed up well into the night to finish it and then went on line to purchase the other books she wrote. Her writing is believable, realistic, and offers the story from each of the main characters' viewpoints.

Emmy Curtis - Alpha Ops Series - DANGEROUS TERRITORY - #1 -Novella I love all of Ms. Curtis's Military Romance books and have heard there will be more to come!! We start out with an encounter between Grace Grainger, reporter and Air Force Master Sergeant Josh Travers in a Hotel Bar in Washington DC. One night of passion was enough to keep both parties thinking about the other for 3 years. They had not exchanged any information, names, phone numbers, address, so they each could only think about that one night. The next encounter, 3 years later and on the battlefield. Josh must rescue an unknown reporter in the war theater. Josh does not believe that reporters have any business on the battle field and they only get in the way and risks military teams lives. When Josh finds out that the reporter is Grace, he has mixed feelings and is not sure if he can fully trust her. Grace does not want to give her heart to anyone on the battlefield since she had lost a friend in the war 3 years earlier. You must read this to find out if Grace and Josh can find neutral ground and trust to explore this red hot passion that they both feel.

This is an excellent entry into a new romantic military action series by author Emmy Curtis, telling us the story of Grace and Josh. Grace is a journalist who chooses to embed herself with the military on year long missions. While on a two week break back in the US, she meets Josh, an air force master sergeant. They are both looking to forget - and a night of passion in each other's arms fits the bill. Three years later they meet again only this time Grace is on the receiving end of a rescue by Josh - buried feelings quickly come to the surface, but can they take their one night and turn it into something more than fantasy? I was really impressed with the research and detail of this novella. The author has obviously gone to great lengths to create accurate and believable scenes. The descriptions of situations in Afghanistan both from Grace's journalistic point of view as well as the soldier and airmen's experiences are riveting to read. I really liked Grace's character - she's a feisty and brave woman, willing to go out on a limb and put herself in difficult situations in order to tell the stories she feels need to be told. Josh is equally engaging as the ultimate hero, strong, handsome, capable, and determined. Though he isn't pleased to find out that Grace is a journalist, he can't help but admire her - and still desires intimacy with her despite knowing it's a bad idea. The sexual tension between Grace and Josh is evident from their first meeting and the love scenes between them are steamy and well written. That chemistry continues to play a part in the development of their relationship down the road and the emotional attachment they develop for each other is tender and heartwarming. The secondary characters introduced into the story play a key role in the plot - they add tension, humor, and an understanding of the dynamics between those who lay their lives on the line every day in foreign countries. The overall tone of the book is an action packed, romantic, sexy story with real characters, witty dialogue, heart stopping scenes and touching moments. I am very much looking forward to more in the series! 5 stars!

Quick, hot, exciting. Josh and Grace meet - it's hot and brief and intense - and then they meet again in the middle of a war and all the sparks between them are still there. Josh and Grace are smart, stubborn and have issues. Grace has learned attachments hurt - attachments to people, places - she's learned to keep her distance. Especially from someone she could love and lose. Josh is suspicious, he doesn't trust easily - he especially doesn't trust reporters and guess what Grace is? With their issues it was hard to imagine a happily ever after but there is on, a believable one too. Disclosure: ebook provided in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed this novella immensely. It is filled with fast paced, nail biting military action, danger, thrill, and bittersweet, steamy romance. All the characters were easy to like, their emotions and thoughts were clearly explained, and I could picture the Afghanistan mountains, the village, the rescue in my mind. The military life, lingo, and the difficulties of relationships while deployed sounded real and accurate. The chemistry between Josh and Grace is instant, hot, and raw. The memories of their first meeting three years ago playing in their minds, the pull for each other is strong, despite all reasons not to surrender to it. The author's voice was clear, energetic, and the story took hold of me from the page one. It is a novella, so I read it at once, just couldn't put it down until the end. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series, that comes out the beginning of October. Four big spoons & teaspoon for this book one of the Alpha Ops!

*wipes forehead* You guys! This book! STEAMY! And addicting. (Warning: not YA!) So so hot. There's a strong possibility that I blushed several times while reading this (and loved every minute!) I'm a sucker for a strong female character who doesn't just pine after a guy but has her own thing going on, who can hold her own while also falling completely, often hesitantly, in love. And Grace was all that and more. She was relatable and walked that line between independence and softness really, really well. The tension throughout the book was high, not just between the lead characters, but the circumstances they found themselves in...it's obvious that Mrs. Curtis has done her research, knows the military lingo, and can write a dramatic scene in Afghanistan that has me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages. Overall--great writing, fast-paced plot, lots of HOT, steamy scenes, and a great story. Can't wait to continue this series!

Dangerous Territory is an intriguing and exciting romance that takes you into the heart of the war in Afghanistan and into the heat of battle.  Grace Grainger is a journalist and a very good one.  She chooses to spend her time reporting on the lives of those who defend their country, living with them, much like her own tour of duty and is actually "embedded" into the team she is with.  Air Force Master Sergeant Josh Travers is a Pararescue Jumper and has done more than his share of tours overseas.  Both of them fantasize about the hot night they had with a stranger several years in the past, and both find themselves very surprised when in the heat of battle, the Pararescuer that comes to save the group Grace is with is the same hottie she got nasty with 3 years ago.  Thrown together in the middle of Afghanistan, the chemistry between these two is undeniably electric, despite the circumstances they find themselves in.  Then, there is the fact that Josh "hates" reporters, which presents a different problem.  The danger, drama, and romance in Dangerous Territory will keep you on the edge of your seat, while you fan your face from the heat that isn't even coming from the desert.  I enjoyed this military romantic suspense story, which is something different that I usually don't read, and was a very welcome change that I enjoyed.  I look forward to following this series to see what Emmy Curtis has in store for her readers next.

Dangerous Territory is the introduction novella to author Emmy Curtis’ Alpha Ops series and talk about a hot, steamy and pulse pounding start! I loved this story from start to finish. Reporter Grace Grainger is used to the battle field and all that came with it. It’s why her motto up until recently had been to keep detached and not make any connections. The problem was she ignored that on her last assignment and it ended up causing her enough pain that she vowed to never slip up again. She lost a friend in the war and the memory would haunt her forever. Now, the night before her leaving on her newest assignment, she was looking for a distraction and the liquor in her glass wasn’t cutting it. Luckily the sexy stranger that just walked into the hotel bar looks like he could do the trick. A one time, no real names, night of hot sex is just what she needed. And he seemed to be up for the task…. Ready to head out on his next deployment, Josh Travers walked into the hotel bar never expecting to see a gorgeous and mysterious woman, let alone end up spending an unforgettable night with her. A night that has haunted his dreams for years. That same mysterious beauty was the absolute last person he ever expected to see here in the middle of a war zone. But here she was, and she was in need of rescuing. Lucky for her that’s exactly what he did for a living. Unlucky for him was him finding out she’s a reporter….the one profession he loathed. Just as well since he never wanted any kind of relationship anyway. Now, if he could just believe that. Thrown into a tense situation after meeting years earlier and spending that one unforgettable night, emotions are bound to run hot between Grace and Josh. Will they be able to weather the emotional storm and turn their passion into something more than what they shared that one night? Oh man, I loved this book! It started out with plenty of heat and passion and only got better from there. Being thrown into an impossible situation and being forced to spend time together was exactly what Grace and Josh need and fate certainly had a hand in getting the ball rolling. I loved both characters and their personalities meshed so well. Grace had me laughing out loud more than a few times with her wit and attempts at lightening their bleak situation. Josh was oh so alpha and oh so delicious. Love that in a character! They both have their own reasons for wanting to stay unattached and they are certainly valid, but they both realize quickly that those reasons are all thrown out the window…and thank goodness for that. The ending of this book was freaking amazing and had me sporting a big goofy grin. Have I mentioned I love Josh? If you love a good romantic suspense with a great balance of heat and action, this is a book for you. I cannot wait for the rest of this series. Thank you, Emmy, for a great read!

Fantastic debut by my new favorite romantic suspense author! I've never wanted to be trapped with a super-hot hero in a dark cave with only a flashlight so badly in my life. Swooooon! Curtis is definitely an automatic buy for me. Simply cannot wait for the next full novel!

4 - "Turn That Frown Upside Down." Stars! Dangerous Territory is the beginning of the Alpha Ops series, and to say I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely high quality of Emmy Curtis’ writing would be an understatement. This novella grabbed me by the eye-balls and did not let them go until its very end. I think one of the main things that denotes when the novella you are reading is of a high standard, is that it doesn’t actually feel like you have read a novella. Dangerous Territory fits into that description fully, it felt like a full length book, the development of Grace and Josh’s relationship and the flow of the plot were absolutely perfect. I loved the action-adventure aspect of the story too, it was refreshing, and although a book of pure fiction, it felt well researched. Don’t get attached. Don’t get involved. These people are a job. Don’t form relationships.  This novella spans 3 years, and after one unforgettable night together, Emmy and Josh run into each other again under the most unexpected circumstances, both live their lives without looking for commitment, but both of them can’t deny that there is something different about the feelings the other evokes in them.  ”My name is T. S., and I will be your rescuer today.” The chemistry between this pair is sexy-hot, and it carries through the novella from the very start. I loved that they both had misconceptions about each other initially, but as their story progressed, they gradually worked out how wrong their initial assumptions about the other were. ”Do you hate me? For what I am, or who I am?” ”You’re reporting this war for what? For fun? To be famous? ... Are you one of those reporters? What am I asking? You’re all like that.” I couldn’t put this book down, I loved every damn second of it, it left me desperate for more of the characters involved and the writers talent for telling their stories. I cannot wait for Garcia and Walker to get their own book – Over the Line, due out in October 2014, I need me some more of Emmy Curtis’ sexy soldiers. ”Well soldier, is that a night-vision scope in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?” ARC generously provided via Netgalley , in exchange for the above honest review.
