Dangerous Weakness by Caroline Warfield

If women were as easily managed as the affairs of state-or the recalcitrant Ottoman Empire-Richard Hayden, Marquess of Glenaire, would be a happier man. As it was, the creatures-one woman in particular-made hash of his well-laid plans and bedeviled him on all sides.

Lily Thornton came home from Saint Petersburg in pursuit of marriage. She wants a husband and a partner, not an overbearing, managing man. She may be "the least likely candidate to be Marchioness of Glenaire," but her problems are her own to fix, even if those problems include both a Russian villain and an interfering Ottoman official.

Given enough facts, Richard can fix anything. But protecting that impossible woman is proving almost as hard as protecting his heart, especially when Lily's problems bring her dangerously close to an Ottoman revolution. As Lily's personal problems entangle with Richard's professional ones, and she pits her will against his, he chases her across the pirate-infested Mediterranean. Will she discover surrender isn't defeat? That it might even have its own sweet reward.

I love the Dangerous series. Like the others, this book has adventure and romance. Caroline is a very complete author. She uses words to create great imagery. I highly recommend reading all of Caroline's books!

Richard Hayden, Marquess of Glenaire, wants, no he demands, his life to be orderly. He must remain in control of everything around him. His wife, when HE decides to take one, will be an asset to his job handling affairs of state. A wife who will not cause him any problems. Well laid plains often go awry and they do in the form of a strong willed, stubborn woman. Lily Thornton has spent her life helping her father in diplomatic affairs. Moving from one country to another learning the different customs and quickly picking up the language. Now she has come home to London to find a husband. A husband who will care for her and not treat her as another piece of property. Again, well laid plans can often go astray and do they ever – in the form of an overbearing, controlling man. A villain, evil beyond all imagining, threatens Lily’s very existence. An interfering foreign diplomat meddling where he shouldn’t causes more problems than Lily can deal with. All topped with a demanding, overbearing gentleman. When circumstances become too much she escapes England to live among her interfering diplomat’s family. A villain that Richard wants for unspeakable crimes but mostly for the harm he presents to Lily. A lapse in judgement (aided by an interfering foreign diplomat) and a stubborn, exasperating woman has turned Richard’s well-ordered life upside down. He has his life all laid out, complete with planning to propose to another Lady (one approved of by his uptight, snob mother). Then why does he cry off and head off to find the one lady who is completely wrong but so right for him. Finding Lily tends to be the easy part. Convincing her to marry him is quite another. When a kidnapping threatens to turn tragic can Richard save Lily? Can Lily save Richard? I absolutely loved the ever organized Richard being thrown for a loop. As his life became less structured I could feel his tension ease. Lily not making things easy for him was well worth lack of sleep to read late into the night. Although I adored Lily’s strength and determination to live her life on her terms there were times I was ready to smack her. The story started off with plenty of action within the first chapter and never stopped. This is definitely a must read story by Caroline Warfield. I can’t imagine where Ms. Warfield takes us in her next Dangerous story.

This was an enjoyable read with twists and turns, danger, spies, blackmail, but most of all, an epic tale of finding your HEA, against all odds. Well written with engaging, well developed characters and a unique storyline. I enjoyed the connection between the H/H and the attraction they try to ignore. Desperation makes strange bedfellows. But can they save the ones they love and pursue their own blossoming relationship, without betraying their country. An enjoyable and satisfying read! Fans of Historical Romance, mystery, suspense and a great read, will enjoy "Dangerous Weakness". I look forward to reading more from Ms. Warfield. A great read! * Received for an honest review from the author* Rating: 4 Heat rating: Sweet Reviewed by: AprilR
