The Daring Book for Girls by Andrea J. Buchanan, Miriam Peskowitz

The Daring Book for Girls is the manual for everything that girls need to know—and that doesn't mean sewing buttonholes! Whether it's female heroes in history, secret note-passing skills, science projects, friendship bracelets, double dutch, cats cradle, the perfect cartwheel or the eternal mystery of what boys are thinking, this book has it all. But it's not just a guide to giggling at sleepovers—although that's included, of course! Whether readers consider themselves tomboys, girly-girls, or a little bit of both, this book is every girl's invitation to adventure.

I love this book! As well as my eight year old daughter! We have given it as a gift and were told what an exceptional book it was. It is the perfect book for a young, inquisitive, growing mind. I love the diversification of information! Sure to help in grooming a well rounded child.

Why can't there just be a daring/dangerous book for kids? Can't girls learn how to use pocket knives just as well as boys? Can't boys learn how to do a french braid just as well as girls? Why would you want to inspire a bit of "Girls rule, boys drool" in kids? They're just kids. Kids don't need to think that they have to conform to gender roles. No one should. When I was little I remember my brother had the dangerous book for boys and I had the girls version and after reading our own we ended up switching and reading each others. The back of this book says "no-boys-allowed" but really, why shouldn't boys read this? People should stop worrying about being a man or woman and just start being human.

I bought this book for my best friend's daughter, but after having it in my possession for about an hour, I decided to buy a copy for my boyfriend's daughter. I found it to be such a great book that I even bought a copy for me, I'm 28! It just reminded me of what it felt like being a girl. There are so many fun, insightful, innocent activities in this book, many of which I had already long forgotten about. I gave the book to my friend's daughter and she couldn't stop reading it. She came to me and asked me about the 'Changing a tire' section. She looked at me like it was something only boys did. Within 30 minutes I took her outside and taught her how to change a tire, just to show her that girls can do it too. Next thing you know, this 11 year old girl decided she wanted to be the one who changed the spare tire back to the real tire. She did it all by herself! This book is incredible and every girl needs it! This book is a role model for what should be important in teaching a girl that she can be independent and that she can do anything. All she needs is the idea planted in her mind and this book does just that!

My daughter (11) loves this book and almost read it all in two days. There is so much unique and fun information in it. I highly recommend as a book for your child or for a gift.

This book is really great! Makes you remember all the great things learned before everyone was obsessed with tv and video games. Get this book for your daughter or niece or sister and get them away from the tv. Active kids are happy and creative kids. The book is really amusing with stories about great women as well as many "lessons" on how to do all sorts of things. From how to double dutch to Joan of Arc's story, this book will keep you and your child interested and active. I pull it off the shelf often when there is a moment of boredom! There is also a Dangerous Book for Boys if you have a boy in your life.

I think this books is a lot of fun and a great way for girls to stumble across something they might become really interested in. I gave it to my 11 year old little cousin for Christmas. Even though I don't think she is a big reader, I feel that this is a book that she can just pick up whenever she wants, flip to a random page and find something she likes.
