Life has never been easy for the people of Candomble. For decades, they have struggled daily to grow crops in their indoor gardens, purify the polluted sea water that laps the shores outside their home, and above all fight and even kill anyone who might try to take what they have. But, for Dari, it held everything she needed- a nice apartment, good friends, and a rewarding job as a captain in the Guard. However, none of that could disguise the fact that something had always been missing from her life. Losing her family at a young age, and lacking the vital emotions that shaped those around her, she defined herself through her job, putting duty and honor above all else. Until the arrival of a handsome new recruit who will leave her questioning everything she thought she knew about herself and forcing her to choose between duty and honor or the only man she's ever loved.
