Paige Shelton is a woman on a mission.

Convinced her hometown is under siege by vampires, Paige takes it upon herself to rid Maxxan of the vermin she believes vampires to be. Keeping her nocturnal activities a secret from her family, Paige ends up in over her head when the tables are turned, and she finds herself captive to the very creature she despises.

Nate never expected the vigilante vampire killer to be his fated mate. He knows he has his work cut out for him if the fiery shifter is to overcome her hate and fear of a species that has inflicted nothing but pain upon her family. It won't be easy, but he's determined to prove that vampires aren't all evil and being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad.

Forced to accept help from the sexy bloodsucker, Paige knows her survival depends on teaming up with Nate. And no matter how hard Paige tries to ignore the attraction between them, she soon finds there's something to be said for the bite of a vampire.

If you like fiery chemistry, feisty heroines, and action-packed supernatural showdowns, then you'll love this fiendishly delightful paranormal romance.

Dark Desires is book 3 in the Supernatural Investigation Agency series and was also part of the multi-author series Lick of Fire. I have read only the SIA books by Mrs. Hinchey, so my review reflects that. Dark Desires is Paige's book. We met her back in book 2 as the cousin of Rae, the heroine of that story, and another fire demon. The leading male character in this is Nate, whom we met back in book 1, Immortal Ties when he became the director of the SIA. I was excited for Nate to get his time in the spotlight as I was rather fond of him from that first book. We also get guest appearances from Raven and Carter and I was very happy about that too. Paige is...well she's a bit off her rocker, really. She decides to go vigilante after Rae and Jordan head out of town and starts randomly killing vampires. A lot of the book is her coming to realize that she has an unwarranted prejudice against vampires (Nate is a 180+ year old vampire) and the fact she needs to get over that. Nate is his usual awesome, kickass self and I adored him all over again. He's obviously proven himself to be a capable director and an all around good guy. Also, gotta give the guy props for so easily forgiving Paige for having gone a murder spree of his kind. The book had a lot of action and a good dose of steam as well. This one only got 4 stars from me because I didn't like how easily we swept her 12 murders under the rug and just kinda forgot about them. I didn't feel she really felt any remorse beyond a momentary pang of guilt. Also, Nate got to be less pale and more normal looking than the other vampires but we never got an explanation for that. Other than those two things, it fell in line with the last two and moved the story forward nicely as well as gave two of our characters happy endings (mostly, there's still the overarching theme of the experiments to deal with). Overall, I enjoyed the book.

After reading and loving Shadow & Secrets so much, I was very excited to get my hands on this one. The action starts on the first page and carries through to the end. The chemistry, and tension, between Paige and Nate made for a wonderful read that had plenty of passion and a lot of heat. I love the excitement, danger, surprises, and quirky characters who make up this series, and after reading two of the books (both by Jane) in this 17-book-so-far series I am going to dive into the others. I loved it and the next one can't come soon enough.

Dark Desires is part of two different series. It is the seventeenth book in the Lick of Fire series and the second book in the Fire and Ice series. The good thing is you can read this as a standalone. Though personally, it helps if you have read Shadows and Secrets which is the first book in the Fire and Ice series. Though you can easily figure out the story here if you have read that one. There is violence and the sex is hot and steamy so definitely 18+. I really enjoyed reading this story. Rae and Nate make an interesting couple even though she has an extreme distrust of vampires. It is interesting to watch her figure out her fire demon powers throughout the book. This book, and series, is worth reading.

To be completely honest, I haven’t read every book in the Lick of Fire series. I’ve stuck with the authors that I know for sure I like. This book is an example why I do that. I was immediately drawn into this book from the very beginning. I had read the author’s other book in the series, and I slipped into this book, set in the same town as the first one by her, like a pair of comfortable slippers. I loved the main character as she was smart, sure of herself, snarky, and fun. Her love interest was just as fun as a laid-back, take-no-prisoners, prove yourself type guy. They had great chemistry and I enjoyed every minute of their race to find the villain. The book did end on a type of cliffhanger, but not a huge one, and I can’t wait to see what will happen next! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
