Oh dear lord, how can such a short novella kill me this much?? And yet, it did. This novella is told switching between glimpses of the past and the present. I can sometimes find these hard to follow, but Ms. Kay did a fantastic job of making it very clear what was going on in each section and when each section was. It was spaced out really well so that each glimpse into the past added to what was going on in the present. And such great characters -- loved Eva so much. Her nickname of Spitfire was perfect. And the trio of boys....oh man, from the first introduction, I was in love. Yup, it had humour, action, romance, so many feels, and an epic ending. It's going to be excruciating to wait for the first novel in this series, but I will wait with baited breath. :) I was given an early copy of this novella from the author, but it was so good I decided I needed my own copy complete with fabulous cover....

An amazing novella. It captured my interest from the first paragraph and didn't disappoint. This is true science fiction, not fantasy and lovers of this genre will be completely satisfied. The story is brief (30) pages, however it gives you the feel and texture of what's to come in the book. The main characters are engaging and there is a bit of romance and mystery that leave you wanting to know more. Note to the author...the story jumps around with flashbacks a little too much. My honest critique is you don't need them at all. Just write as the story unfolds because it's all interesting. Also give yourself time and write this into one amazing book rather than a serial group of novellas. You most definitely have the talent so don't short yourself. I think your books will be as good as the Star Doc series or better. I personally can't wait. Hats off to a terriffic new writer. Jp

This is one of the most gripping and full stories of such a short length that I can recall reading. Kudos to the author for writing this while juggling so many responsibilities in her life.

I really like this short story prequel but be aware that that is what it is--a prequel. The characters are solid and there are a lots of ways the story or stories can go. We are introduced to two villains . One is alien, the other familial. The story can go military (which would not be my preference) or somewhere new. But, I am not going to spend over $12. For a first book by an author who isn't clear about pronouns after prepositions or isn't clear about who the pronouns refer to. This is definitely impressive.
