Wonderfully emotional...intense and realistic. A nice, long and at times, heart breaking.

Dan, in his mid thirties, is the horse trainer on Karl and Molly's farm. Justin, Dan's lover and Karl and Molly's son has been in a coma for the last year following a riding accident, he was going to take over the Kentucky farm, but now it's all changed. When some prospective buyers, Jeff and his lover Evan, and Evan's younger sister Tatiana, visit from California looking for a horse for Tatiana it sets in motion some dramatic changes for all. Impressed by Dan's honesty in steering them away from buying the horse they had come to see, the very wealthy twenty six year old Evan decides on a new approach, he will but the entire farm stock and ship it out to California. But it is not just the farm stock that interests him, in fact both the older Jeff and Evan are attracted to Dan, they will buy as long as Dan agrees to come too. While the young Evan wants the stable for his sister, and wants Dan to run it, he clearly has designs on Dan for himself, and the ruthless business man that he is Evan is used to getting what he wants; but the situation is complicated as he is already Jeff's lover, and to complicate matters further Dan is attracted to both. The story follows Dan as he struggles with his emotions and loyalties to his dying lover Justin and to Justin's parents and to his desire to make a fresh start in California - not to mention the obvious chemistry that is at work between him and Jeff and Evan. Starting out in California presents new problems, especially when Dan meets and dates Ryan, arousing strong jealousy in Evan. When it becomes clear what Evan and Jeff really want is a three-way with Dan, he really has to think carefully how to proceed, for much is at stake including the job he so loves working with horses.Dark Horse is a well written and very involving story with strong and diverse characters. Jeff, mature, calm, caring and thoughtful; Evan, beautiful, intense, all-consuming, impetuous and driven; Chris, Justin and Dan's straight friend, a lawyer, the steadying influence in Dan's life and to whom Dan frequently turns for guidance; Tatiana, just fifteen years old but possessing a strong personality; and Dan himself, clearly attractive, a high-school drop out, a delinquent past, as good as disowned by his parents, perhaps understanding horses better than men, maybe a little naive and certainly not good with words finding it often difficult to express himself, lacking self confidence, but all the more appealing for all his shortcomings and his many good qualities. There is a lot going on in this complex story with its many twists and turns, and it is never certain what will happen until it actually does. To add to the spice there are just a few very hot, explicit intimate scenes including a three way, but they are an essential part of the development. This story delivered lot more than I expected, and I shall certainly be looking at the sequel, Out of the Darkness

Wasn't sure when I started this book. It is written different that I am use to. Sort of like narrated. But the more I read, the better I liked it. By the end I immediately bought the next book. If you are looking for a lot of wild sex, this is not it. It is a love story. It's nice and long, worth the money. I loved it.
