In Dark Path, Melissa F. Miller brings back Bodhi King, the unflinching Buddhist forensic pathologist from Improper Influence, her USA TODAY bestselling legal thriller in the Sasha McCandless series. After solving a series of unexplained deaths in Pittsburgh several years ago, Dr. Bodhi King retreated from the limelight. Now, he's called out of early retirement to help investigate a death cluster on a private island in the Florida Keys. Relatively healthy residents of a nursing home are dying in the middle of the night, expressions of terror etched on their faces.Reluctant and cautious, the devout Buddhist soon finds himself in the middle of a maelstrom of anger, blame, and death. Members of the Golden Island Church have a furtive agenda to protect. The dying Cuban-Americans have long-held secrets of their own. And everyone seems to have a reason to stop Bodhi from bringing the truth to light.

I received an eARC of this book with a request that I write an honest review. I am a fan of Ms Miller and her Sasha McCandless series. Bodhi King is very different than Sasha. He's laid back and always calm. at least on the outside. He got a request from a Coroner in the Florida Keys to come and investigate some strange deaths.People were dying with no outward signs of any kind of trauma except for a face of terror in death. His investigative measures start off in normal fashion but soon he has an idea about what is happening.Ms Miller weaves a story that has a strong bearing of truth. The action is steady, the characters are nicely defined and this left me with a desire to read more stories of Dr Bodhi King (which is the Hallmark of a good author).

At the end of the book, the author writes how much she loves doing research. It shows: her knowledge gave her a strong base on which to build a smart and interesting book. The characters feel complex, and the lead character is intriguing. The dialogue is smart and realistic. The pacing of the story is consistent. The author used enough of her research to build a clever and plausible story without using so much that she bogs it down in extraneous detail. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

What a wonderful story, it's rare to find a mystery with a path not read before as a 64 yr old avid reader. I was so surprised at the basis for the prime character and throughly entertained. I highly recommend this book, if fact I'm off to get the rest of this series and hopefully the author will be prolific and write many more.

Bodhi is a very likable character and I will definitely look for more stories where he plays a lead.
