Overview

When the dream world spills its murky contents, everyone's worst nightmares run free.

Book Description:
Lara McInnis reads auras and flirts with an elusive ability to foretell the future. Ambivalent about her magic, she's done a fine job sidestepping most of it. After several patients-and a student or two-describe the same cataclysmic dream, ancient evil bursts its bounds, and she can't ignore her power anymore.

Trevor Denoble shields his secrets with a stunning body and a boatload of British charm. The airline he works for folds. Lara's changing into someone he barely recognizes, and the rest of his carefully crafted life isn't in much better shape.

Living in a world teetering on the edge of anarchy, Trevor and Lara face painful decisions. Her burgeoning paranormal ability scares the hell out of him. Meantime, she does her damnedest to survive her magic in a world gone mad. A world where the rules have changed and there's no one left to trust.

Such a wonderful read!! I totally fell in love with the characters and their story. It's a touch dark, and triggers some deep thinking... but in a wonderfully good way. This storyline mixes real world issues, like how human greed and industriousness is leeching our planet of it's resources with magic and the paranormal. It's a perfect blend.

There were so many things to love about this paranormal fantasy dystopian book. The setting and world is super unique and interesting. It's filled with incredible encounters and heart stopping action. Lara is a hero that is slowly changing as she adapts to her growing psychic powers, while trying to keep her marriage alive and survive in a world with dwindling resources. A dark, edgy paranormal fantasy romance. Loved it!

Not the same ole fantasy you’re used to… One of the things I like about all of Ann Gimpel’s books is the different slants and mythos she brings to her stories and characters, and Dark Prophesy is no different. This dark, pre-apocalyptic fantasy is filled with gritty realism even with the presence of the Sidhe Fae. Ms. Gimpel, a former therapist, gives us an authentic portrayal of her therapist heroine and her attempts to rationalize, compartmentalize, and finally accept the “woo woo” world of what she once thought was pure mythology, even though she’s been able to see/read aura’s and sometimes foretell the immediate future. Join Lara and her common law husband of twenty years as they struggle to cope with the rapidly decaying society as resources and supplies become more scarce while also dealing with new knowledge of the dark side and the light. Additionally their own pasts must be dealt with before they can learn who, or what, they really are. The secondary Sidhe characters are very interesting, and I hope we get to see much more of them in the future books. Note the story does continue in future books in the series, but it does not end in a cliffhanger. I think readers of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic as well as fantasy will like this story.

Ann is a Prophet!!!  After all, what is the role of a prophet?  It is all about spreading a message and speaking for & about the Supernatural.  Ann not only does just that, but she does it with such a unique flair that keeps you wanting more!   Ann is out there spreading her terrific and dark stories around, making you think of “real life” concerns in a different and Supernatural way!  You read this terrific story that has the entire planet in both storing mode and panic mode because of the natural resources drying up and the world is heading to a catastrophic self-destruct!  But hey, it’s just a story – a fiction story – right??  Well no one knows for sure or do they?  Well, regardless, this book is about way more than that!  It has the perfect blend of story, psych, people with psyche powers and enough mystery and love to drive you so deep into this book that you are at the end before you realize it!  I loved that Lara has some powers but she doesn’t know too much about them.  Of course that also means that there are very few people who know about her abilities.  The journey that she takes with her love Trevor, their new puppy and the odd mix of friends they meet along the way is about so much more than just “powers” or the world possibly imploding but a deep journey of supernatural growth, finding one’s self amidst the chaos both in her mind and in the “real world” and not only surviving it, but making it all work for the good of all that deserve it.  I connected with the characters – both the main as well as the supporting cast, even some of her patients!  I kept waiting for something to happen that never did but then I was surprised when something DID happen because I wasn’t expecting it!  Actually found myself intrigued with all aspects of this story – the people, situations, powers, dreams, etc.  Loved that it is all told from 3rd person POV and doesn’t flip back and forth because with everything going on, it might have gotten too confusing otherwise.  Found myself intrigued with the psych/psyche part of it and loved that Ann wrote it at a level that anyone without a psych degree can still understand what it is all about, but not at such a “dumbed down” level that makes it boring or insulting.  As this is the first book in the series, it focuses more on what is going on with the world, the economy, and introduces to the Supernatural side slowly.  But trust me when I say this – it is all worth it!  I was completely enthralled with this story and couldn’t wait for more, and Ann does not disappoint!  I do want to mention that I loved how they treated the puppy even when he was jumping and snagging their clothes.  Can’t help but wonder if the puppy is more than “just a puppy” or what roll he will play in this later on in the series.  Of course, I keep thinking that of everyone or everything and I have usually been kept guessing or in the “Dark”, but that is also what makes this a great book and makes me drool for the rest of the series!!!  All in all this is another terrific story from Ann Gimpel and one I don’t think you will want to miss out on!
