About the Author

As an MI6 field officer, Matthew Dunn recruited and ran agents, coordinated and participated in special operations, and acted in deep-cover roles throughout the world. He operated in environments where, if captured, he would have been executed. Dunn was trained in all aspects of intelligence collection, covert deployment, small arms, explosives, military unarmed combat, surveillance, and infiltration.

Medals are never awarded to modern MI6 officers, but Dunn was the recipient of a rare personal commendation from the secretary of state for work he did on one mission, which was deemed so significant that it directly influenced the success of a major international incident.

During his time in MI6, Dunn conducted approximately seventy missions. All of them were successful. He lives in England, where he is at work on the fourth Spycatcher novel.

Fantastic!  This is the first book I have read by Matthew Dunn but it certainly won't be the last!  Will Cochrane is a joint MI6/CIA agent who suddenly finds that he has gone from being a valued, respected field operative  to being totally dispensable.  And not just dispensable, he is now on an international hit list.  Furthermore, the  order to "kill on sight" was issued by his employers!  What has Cochrane done to deserve such treatment  and can he elude his pursuers long enough to avert an ignominious plot against the US?  Get the book and  find out for yourself how it all plays out! This would be an incredible movie! I was so fortunate to receive this  book in a contest sponsored by the publisher,  William Morrow.

Dark Spies (A Spycatcher Novel) By: Mathew Dunn Pages 373. Publisher: Harper Collins October 2014 Copy Courtesy of Goodreads First Read Reviewed by: tk Mathew Dunn is the master of spy thrillers. Will Cochrane is a MI6 operative and his world is about to fall apart. He has become a traitor to the CIA, FBI, and others. On the run, surviving the elements from one country to the next, and no one to trust, he must prove his innocence. Will has no concerns for his own life. He only wants to survive long enough to make the people responsible pay for their indiscretions and betrayal with the ultimate justice delivered by his own hand. I will not be able to do this book justice. Absolute entertainment is a small beginning. Will Cochrane is an outstanding dominate character. Along with the other members and their secrets, and betrayals has left me in complete amazement. The story moves at an incredible pace. Inside this brilliant story is sneaky, underhanded betrayal, romance, intrigue, and murder. The writing flows so smoothly that you will not be able to put it down. Emotions run on high the entire time. Unending suspense will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. An Extraordinary read. A must have addition to your library. Highly recommended 5/5.

Intelligent, intriguing and down right awesome! Intelligent, intriguing and down right awesome. The title of the story Dark Spies is perfect. Obey orders now follow orders, something in the back of your mind telling you different. All hell breaks loose and you find yourself on the 'Wanted List." Not any wanted list but one to obliterate your very existence. Russians, CIA, FBI, MI6 on the hunt for Wil Cochrane. This story has all the making of a movie and I mean sitting on the edge of your seat kind of movie. Morality? Look, do you not see what he is going through because he chose (?). Read the story for yourself, you will be greatly entertained. I won this book on Goodreads, First Read Giveaway. Thank you, Darlene Cruz

The top female spy in the CIA is warned in her DC hotel room that agents are coming for her and she flees. She then meets the top British spy (that she is somehow in love with after meeting him once) in a restaurant and gives him top secret info. Then she returns to the same hotel room, where she is tortured and killed. This is apparently the dumbest "top" spy in the history of spying. Then, 3 mercenaries walk into a trap set for the top British spy, in an public street area crawling with undercover cops, FBI, HRT snipers and choppers. They are supposedly posing as businessmen. The top British spy shoots one of them on the street, and then the others somehow produce FN-SCAR assault rifles (from their rectums?) and slaughter civilians, cops, FBI agents and even somehow kill HRT snipers set up on rooftops of office buildings hundreds of yard away before the snipers can kill them. The top British spy has every possible law enforcement agency, the public and the media engaged in a manhunt for him in the DC area. He escapes the above trap (obviously) but somehow is able to execute a US Senator and a top CIA official, who are somehow left totally unprotected from him. He also executes the 2 guys that tortured the CIA agent he is in love with (that he met twice in his life). Then this British agent, who had shot about 10 cops, executed US officials, and generally caused mayhem all over Washington DC, is given a total pardon by the US President and Canadian Premier. I agree with other reviewers that this would make a good movie, especially in this age of unbelievable/ridiculous action movies. At least with a movie you can enjoy the special effects, even of the story is totally implausible. I usually avoid "series" type authors, and this is the first "Spycatcher" book I have read. It will also be the last. Save your money.
