Sequel to Thick & Thin THIRDS: Book Nine
THIRDS: Book Nine
THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are as much in love now as they were nearly seven years ago when a tragic event on the job destroyed their relationship. The two drift together only to be pulled apart time and time again. When Hudson draws the interest of dangerous enemies, both within and outside the organization, Seb wants nothing more than to protect the man who still means everything to him.
As life-and-death events, an uncertain future, and startling truths draw Hudson and Seb to each other yet again, they must make a choice: trust their love and take strength from what they share, or lose what matters most… for good this time.

We've learned snippets here and there throughout the THIRDS series about Seb and Hudson's past. When Seb marked Hudson he thought their love was enough to get them through anything life go throw at them. He was wrong. But since Dexter J Daley joined Destructive Delta it seems that Seb and Hudson are continually in each other's orbits. Now that Hudson is in danger, Seb is determined to keep him safe but can his determination be enough to get the job done and can it possibly be what tips the scales of love back in their favor? As with the entries that featured Ash/Cale and Calvin/Hobbs, I worried that perhaps I would not be able to get as invested in Darkest Hour Before the Dawn simply because I absolutely love and adore Dex/Sloane so much. Equally as with Ash/Cale and Calvin/Hobbs, I needn't have worried because even though Seb/Hudson may not be on the same wavelength as Dex/Sloane for me they definitely burrowed into my heart right along side the rest of the THIRDS duos. Darkest has plenty of what we come to expect from a THIRDS tale: action, lust, mystery, romance, drama, but above all it has the heart that Charlie Cochet continually weaves these other elements together with and add in the whole shifter factor and its a perfect tick to everyone's paranormal box.
Darkest Hour Before Dawn is the last book (so far) in the THIRDS series, and you do need to read the other books in the series to get the complete picture. It is in previous books that we have learned about the Hobbs family, about Hudson's relationship with Nina, and how Therians view the whole being marked phenomenon. Now, I will admit to being torn going into this book. I like Hudson - the sexy, nerdy doctor who has helped Dex and Sloane without question. Okay, so maybe with some questions, but he still helped. BUT you then get the Hudson that is constantly pulling Seb to him, only to push him away again. I understand the story of how it happened, and I understand the guilt behind it. I also understand the bonding that is there between mates. What I don't understand is how Seb could carry on wanting Hudson with how he was behaving. Nina had it right with what she said to Hudson, but it was a few years too late in my opinion. I will also admit to getting slightly fed up with the 'poor me' Hudson routine. On the whole though, this book manages to tie up some loose ends whilst leaving you with plenty of questions going forward. With no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt my reading flow, I found the pacing very smooth, with peaks of action in amongst the talking. This book is still a welcome addition to the series, and definitely recommended by me. * Verified Purchase ~ April 2017 * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are still in love but not together after a tragic accident tore them apart. But now Hudson is in danger and Seb is determined to keep him safe. Not the easiest thing to do but Seb knows he can do it. Then some truths are revealed that leave them reeling and cause them to turn to each other. One thing you can count on is more than a few surprises when you read a THIRDS books. Darkest Hour Before Dawn is no exception. After the tragedy that tore them apart, Hudson did not feel as if he deserved happiness. Even when he wanted to try, something happened which would remind him that he was not deserving. Seb tried to change that but was not successful. The two still loved each other deeply which is what made the tragedy that much more. Nothing more can be said without ruining the discovery for yourself. Pick up Darkest Hour Before Dawn and prepare to be riveted by the story and amazed by the turn of events.
