About the Author
Tammy Young Coté is a children's librarian, author, and freelance writer in Connecticut. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies/Japanese from Middlebury College and earned a Master of Arts from Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in East Asian Studies. After several years teaching junior high at St. Bernard School, she moved into the librarian position she holds now, where she continues to coach students in writing and research.
While completing a writing course at The Institute of Children's Literature, she published her first article, a non-fiction piece about the American robin, in Nature Friend magazine in 2009. Shortly thereafter, she embarked on a novel idea and joined a NaNoWriMo group for National Novel Writing Month. The first book in her Christian children's series, The Calling, Book One of the Merlin & Martha series, was picked up by indie publisher Mountain Springs House and released in May 2013. Book Two, The Way of the Warrior, was released in February 2014. Both books were out of print for a while after the small publisher closed its doors in July of 2014, but Tammy re-released them via CreateSpace in April 2015.
Tammy is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), participates in NaNoWriMo activities and meets with a writing buddy monthly to share projects and critiques. She teaches a week-long summer writing camp for junior-high students and engages with readers and fellow writers and educators via her blog at tammyyoungcote.com, on Facebook and Twitter @tammyyoungcote.
