Overview

Darkness Unbound (Dark Angels Series #1) by Keri Arthur

The fight against darkness rages on for the next generation—in New York Times bestselling author Keri Arthur’s exciting new series set in the world of the Guardians.

Being half werewolf and half Aedh, Risa Jones can enter the twilight realms between life and death and see the reapers, supernatural beings that collect the souls of the dead. But she soon makes a terrifying discovery: Some sinister force is stealing souls, preventing the dead from ever knowing the afterlife.

Reapers escort souls—not snatch them—but Risa is still unnerved when a reaper shadows her in search of someone Risa has never met: her own father, an Aedh priest, who is rumored to be tampering with the gates of hell for a dark purpose. With the help of her “aunt”—half-werewolf, half-vampire Riley Jenson—and an Aedh named Lucian who may have lost his wings but none of his sex appeal, Risa must pursue whatever shadowy practitioner of blood magic is seizing souls, and somehow stop her father . . . before all hell breaks loose.

I really enjoy the "Jensen" series so thought I would give the Darkness series a try and lo and behold here comes the next generation of "Aussies". I really do enjoy Keri Aurthur each book has been mind consuming, which is really nice considering I read pretty fast (in the last year I have read 86 books) on my nook. Keri's are amoung my favorites along with C. Feehan. S. Kenyon, Iris Johanson, Lisa Jackson, Nora Roberts and Janelle Taylor.

I have been a fan of the Riley series and looked forward to this one. After reading the reviews I knew that this story was not complete, but since the2nd book was out I went ahead and got them both. Sadly, the 2nd book still does not resolve the main story line either. Also while #1 is a full novel- book 2 was a $7.99 novella. So $16 into it I have two books that should have been one, no resolution, and extreme irritation. Risa is ok- a little weak in character and her super powers. Half were- that cannot shift and half Aedh that gets terribly weak briefly using those powers. Constantly reading how her clothes bond with her skin, etc, and lack of continual logic of the other characters abilities was a let down. Risa also has no common sense and seems to ignore obvious facts or even feelings (lunch with mom and Riley for instance-clearly something is wrong and she blithely skips off to get her hoo-ha serviced). I was expecting alot more from this author. You cant say I did not warn you!

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha – Michelle L Olson]: Keri Arthur has been one of my favorite authors for quite some time and the Riley Jenson series has been one of my favorites. With 9 books in that series that held me captive, you can imagine how excited I was to hear that Keri was writing a spin-off series featuring the incredible daughter of Dia Jones. What I didn’t expect when starting Darkness Unbound was that it would quickly jump to the forefront of ‘my favorite books ever’ list. I was asked the other day what I look for in a good Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance book. My answer, “intrigue”. Well, Darkness Unbound gave me that times 100, and so, SO much more! This series is going to be incredible, if the first installment is anything to go by. It literally had it all… Heart pumping action, massive amounts of intrigue, toe curling romance, a captivating plot, and the ending had you wishing that the next book was sitting inches away so you could start it immediately. The characters were amazing as well. Strong, capable, female leads, uber sexy alpha males, and enough magick to keep even the pickiest of readers happy; there were shifters, witches, angels (the Aedh), reapers, demons, vampires, clairvoyants and more. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Darkness Unbound 5 Skulls, and sincerely wishes there were more to give! We HIGHLY recommend it for, well… EVERYONE! Keri Arthur fans will adore it, but more than that, it had everything you want in a perfectly written Urban Fantasy, and just enough hot and steamy sex and romance to keep Paranormal Romance lovers happy as well. While it definitely isn’t necessary to read the Riley Jenson, Guardian series first in order to understand and appreciate the Dark Angels series, in my personal opinion it would help. The supporting characters and historical references (from a book standpoint) will mean SO much more to you as a reader if you’ve lived their lives with them first, and grew up with Risa, so to speak, before jumping into her incredible life at age 28, where Darkness Unbound picks up. BIG kudos for Keri and the Dark Angels series! November cannot get here fast enough to get Darkness Rising into my hot little hands…

Great introduction to a new series from Keri Arthur. The book has some characters from her Riley Jensen Guardian series, but has advanced the timeline. Anyone that has enjoyed her previous books will love this new one.

Risa is all grown up. I long have been a fan of Keri Arthur, so when she started a new series, that featured some old favorites, I was immediately on board. I loved the premise and of course the characters and I think its a great start to the series. It had plenty of action, suspense and mystery and of course some steamy loving. I can't wait to find out what will happen to Risa next, our little girl is all grown up and ready to kick some butt.

Not really into romance novels much but this one was a pleasant surprise. I will check the next one in the series and then decide whether to read further.

Great off shoot from the Riley Jenson stories. I only wish there were a few more details to get us to this story line.

After finishing with Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson series I decided to give this one a go, and I am not disappointed. Over the next couple of days I am going to continue to read this series and hopefully finish them before this weekend, or over the weekend depending on how much stuff needs done around the house and how much loving I give my awesome children! Anyway, Risa is charming and I am looking forward to see what the books have in store for her. I'm so saddened by the death of her mother, and I hope that it looking for her mother's killer doesn't send her down a path that is too dark to come out of. Especially since she made a deal with Hunter and that in itself seems like a bad move. I'm curious about her relationships so far, even though Tao is a close friend who she has vowed not to sleep with again I feel that he may have deeper feelings that they may both be unaware of, then there is Luciean...I don't honestly see that going to far, it just doesn't feel right to me. Then there is her dark angel, Azriel. Now he seems like a very good choice to be partner material. They have an interesting spark that needs to be explored future! I also very much enjoy having the characters from the Riley books be in this series as well. That just means I don't have to let go of Riley or Quinn just yet!

I have not read this author before, but I was looking for new series. Nook directed me to this book. I bought the first one and it took a little while to be sure, but then I bought the rest of the series. I read Laurell K Hamilton, Charlene Harris, Patricia Briggs, George RR Martin, Anne Rice (just to name a few). I don't care as much for the romance part, but the plot and the energy are awesome. You can escape into her world and lose yourself. She does a great job with writing this series. I will be checking out her other series after this one is read!
