Darkyn's Mate (#3, Rhyn Eternal) by Lizzy Ford

Caught between Fate and the Dark One ...

Stuck in Hell, human-Deidre struggles to hold onto her hope that she can change the course of events that landed her as the mate of Darkyn, the Dark One. The chances of her leaving Hell plummet when the Dark One takes a drastic step to ensure he never loses his latest possession and blood binds her in an ancient rite from the time-before-time. In doing so, he is forced to share his power with her. Rather than despair, she begins to see that she has unexpectedly found her place in the world: protecting innocent souls from the bloodlust of the demon she's forever bound to.

Rather than accept her place at his side docilely, she begins to use her newfound influence to help those she cares about, including Gabriel, the former lover she's not yet ready to let go of, even knowing she'll never leave Hell.

I have been a huge fan of Lizzy Ford since I first picked up and read Damian's Oracle. She has a masterful way of telling a story and this book is no different. Darkyn's Mate is the flip side of book 2 in this series. This time we are seeing the story from Deidre's perspective as she resides in the Underworld with Darkyn. This book is over 300 pages long but it is a fast read. It is hard to put the book down once you start reading. She does such a great job of character development, you can't help to want to know what happens to them next. Lizzy also does a fantastic job of creating a very credible and believable world. When Deidre has the snake encircle her I could almost feel the same happen to me. Masterful writing.

Continuing the story began in Gabriel's Hope, Darkyn's Mate tells human- Deidre's account of the bet. In the last book past-death or goddess- Deidre spent her days trying to get Gabriel to fall in love with her. This is the story of how Darkyn got human Deidra's trust if not love. The problems between Gabe and Dei made it impossible for them to have a chance. He kept the truth and his true feelings from her. So it gave Darkyn a chance to do what he does best: win his conquest. It is sometimes easier to live with a cruel truth than a comforting lie. After the way Dei had been lied to, used, and then discarded the seemingly cruel truth from Darkyn was a balm to her heart. Even if she refused to see it at first. Never one to fail, he persued Dei's submission, never expecting to lose his to her. What I appreciate most is how Lizzy was able to separate the mating bond frenzy from an actual relationship. She acknowledged Deidre's need for a real relationship beyond the bond. Many authors get lazy and use 'mating frenzy' as an excuse to NOT develope the relationship between mates. Just because they are good in bed does not mean they will be good in life. #FordFan

Darkyn's Mate by Lizzy Ford is a well written, emotional look at Deirdre and Darkyn's point of view.  This book exactly duplicates the time frame from Deirdre's Death, but from the opposite perspective.  As usual for Lizzy Ford, this POV answers all the questions that were raised in the previous version.....except....what happens next.  Love the cliffhanger!

I read the entire Rhyn Eternal series and have to say that for what ever reason this one is my absolute favorite! I cant explain why. Just love it. I have to admit that I have read this book several times. So far Darkyn is my favorite in this series. You have nothing to lose by giving this series a chance!! Awesome!! Darkyn reminds me of a sexy, mysterious, bad boy. The kind that intrigues you. You want to learn more about him and why he is the way he is. I wanna reach in there and hug him. LOL. Start today!!! lol

Worth Reading... Total Pages: 374...Story Pages: 372 Book three of Gabriel's story. Can't wait for book 4 to get here! One thing about this series that some people may not like is that the main male characters aren't your normal male heroes, etc. I would classify them as a**holes if they were people I met in the real world. Pretty chauvinistic kind of guys. At least the women they end up with mellow them out. I still love the series though.

This book was offered as #3 but should have been #2.5. Much of the book was the same text as was in the #2 book. I was very disappointed in this book as there was very little new material. It was supposed to be a continuation of the other book, but was the same material from the past book.

In true Lizzy fashion this story is another home run!!! I absolutely loved to see the story unfold and fell even more in love with the characters, if that is even possible. I am so excited to see how this story unfolds in the next book in the series.

I recieved this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.  Taking off from the end of Gabriel's Hope, book 3 in the Rhyn Eternal series, human Deidre is now the Dark One Darkyn's mate.  She discovers to her horror that he has turned her into a demon, and not just any demon, but a sex demon.  Believing at first that she will eventually break free of Darkyn and be able to return to Gabriel, she discovers doors slowly closing off until she has no choice but to accept that she is the one for Darkyn and he is the one for her. This book was shorter than others in the series, but is still a well rounded story for all that (except for the cliffhanger leaving room for book 4 which will hopefully complete the series).  This book is steamier than her other YA PNR books, with a lot more sexual situations in it, as well as more language, but other than the F bomb, not too graphic.  Darkyn displays a side that while not loving in the traditional sense definitely makes you swoon.  Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
