This is a painful book to read, it has left a sense of guilt because even now as I type on this computer or watch the TV I wonder, "was one of the women who built this one of the innumerable victims" ? Even if they are not I still cannot shake the fact that those who have worked so hard to build many of the things we all use here in this Country live in intense poverty and suffering I cannot understand why these companies have failed to protect their hardworking employees. Why couldn't they pay them a fair wage because these are people not looking for a handout, these are women who are working long hours for so little, even risking their lives just so they can work..Those who put NAFTA together have also failed these women, we are benefiting from the suffering of others, and while the cries of injustice are raised on this side of the border for the same crimes, these voices remain silent for those on the other side, THIS I cannot understand. I heard of this story long before I read it, long before Jennifer Lopez played a part in a story very close to the story. But this is no story its a painful ugly reality that scared me. This book is a painful reality check !

It took a lot of courage for these three women to write this book and the courage to spend time in Juarez researching and conducting interviews. Knowing what I know now, after reading this book, I think I would have left my manuscript on the shelf where the author said she had left it years ago. I am thankfull that she did resume writing this book becsuse it makes me appreciate our judicial system, our constitution, human rights amendmant, the latest in technology thats applied in solving criminal cases, especially using DNA. I think what is happening in Juarez is bigger than any federal or government agency, or even the president can fix.

This book is amazing because it explains what families of murdered women go through, how they're treated by the police, the government. It explains how corrupt the state, maybe even the goverment really is and how for that reason so many cases have been left unsolved or just forgotten. Innocent people who are charged, from start to finish it is truly saddening and shocking.
