A page turner. Lovely in every sense of the word. Serene Moneto. Miles Coulson. WWII Rome, 1944. Italian girl discovers gravely injured American soldier and immediately sets out to rescue him from the Germans. Within minutes he saves her from the unwanted attentions of the enemy. And so begins A Daughter's Promise (The Wild Rose Press), a positively enthralling debut written by my newest author friend, Christine Clemetson. Emotion-driven and beautiful beyond many I've read, the connection between Miles and Serene is palpable the instant their fingers brush that first time. Yes, I loved this book. I could truly relate to Serene, the all-Italian girl raised to honor her father's wishes and to care--no matter what the cost to her, even a lifetime of joy with the man she adores--for the family her parents unwillingly left behind in the wakes of their deaths. Miles is the every bit the All-American hero, the one every girl imagines she'll nurse back to health and love beyond reason, only to be loved that way in return. Christine weaves a hypnotic tale, one I had to make myself put down in order to do those pesky things one has to do. Of course the guy gets his girl and the girl gets her hero-this is a romance, for heaven's sake. It's HOW Christine grabbed me immediately, with only a handful of paragraphs before even the title page. This couple's journey is one of selflessness, a tale of love at its most pure. Effortlessly she transported me into Serene and Miles' world, made me root for her immediately and fall in love with him instantly, care for them as if they were dear friends caught in life's greatest turmoil. (Made this author's inner editor take a break for once! :) This is one title whose praises I'll sing again and again. Chances are, I'll read it again, too. To say I loved A Daughter's Promise is putting it mildly; to say I was honored to have had lunch with the author to discuss it is BEYOND thrilling. Christine Clemetson has joined the ranks of my favorite romance writers; Iris Johansen, Tami Hoag, Kay Hooper, Fayrene Preston to name a few. These writers know how to blend romance with suspense in characters that are as real as you and me. Though they now focus on writing mysteries, they always include the greatest mystery of all, LOVE. The characters of A Daughter's Promise grabbed a hold of my heart & would not let go. Serene & Miles took me on a wonderfully exciting and adventurous journey that made me laugh, made me cry, and made me raving mad at the circumstances that get in our way in life at times. From the full-blown characters of Marcus, Margot and Samuel, the exasperating Anna, to the small supporting role of the absent Josie, they were all a combination of the right ingredients to rival the best dish at Cucina Moneto! When I read a book, it is like putting in a movie. All my senses are on high alert to see, hear, taste, smell & touch every nuance as it comes to life on every page. That is the true litmus test for a book I enjoy, and A Daughter's Promise delivered. The best authors do not describe so much as they transport you to their world, in any time and place. So Clemetson took me there in Rome at the end of World War II, and in so doing, helped me to learn that although this is work of fiction, how many stories like these must have gone untold beyond the history books. I am thankful for this latest time machine and can't wait to take another trip!

This book was great. I read the excerpt and knew I'd love it! It's a love story but it has a lot of suspense too. I'd definitely recommend it. I can't wait to read the next book by this writer.

I just finished reading A Daughter's Promise and I loved it! What a page turner! The characters come alive through the book. I really cared about what happened to them. The setting (WWII Italy) is different and interesting. I would recommend this book for men and women, and especially anyone who wants their heartstrings pulled!

I found this book to capture every thought of my being. I was entirely engulfed by this book, the way it was written and also how you just could imagine every scene as if you were right there in the story.
I would highly recommend this book to both male and female readers. Also, this book would make a beautiful movie. I can't wait for this author's next book!!!!
