I've really enjoyed listening to this CD. Some of the songs are similar to those by other artists - it's not as original as I may have preferred. Overall, though, I really consider this an excellent CD that will be in my car's changer for quite a while. My favorite song is "I Did It For You", which I tend to repeat when I get to it on the CD.

I voted for him on American Idol (along with Michael Johns...), and I was happy that he was the one that won. I'm pleased with this CD, I recommend it to anyone who voted for him, and I look forward to anything else that he releases in the future.

David proved that he had the chops to be a great recording artist on American Idol, and he did not disappoint. This album is SO SO much better and more organic than any Idol debut album should really be. Even if you don't love his edgier rock style, I think that it's pretty hard to deny that this is music with substance. These lyrics, unlike the ones on many Idol debut albums which are sappy and cliche, are deep and meaningful. Listening to songs like Bar-ba-sol, you cannot deny that this is somehow who UNDERSTANDS musicality.

Is this the best album that Cook is ever going to make? Probably not. But is it REMARKABLY impressive and tight considering that he threw it together- with the help of some really great other artists- in a matter of a few MONTHS!

Really though, no excuses need to be made for this album. No "well he only had a short time to work on it", or "well he didn't have complete artistic control." The fact is that this is a SOLID, SOLID album, and I personally could not recommend it more. There is not a single song that I skip over listening to it- and I am generally very picky :)

I was a shoo-in from the word go on this. I loved David Cook on American Idol, and I anxiously waited for this album. It was worth the wait. He's a strong rock voice, with great lyrical sense, a sensitive soul, and a genuineness to himself.

I was not disappointed!!

Amazing album, I know its not out yet but you can listen to it at DavidCookOfficial.com. The songs are full of emotion which is just the David we know. I cant stop listening to it. Im sad that we dont get the special preorder only song that iTunes is offering. I wonder why?? Any way it doesnt matter since there is a bonus song called A kiss on the neck after Daily Anthem when you steam it online. Check it out!

I have really enjoyed listening to his new release. I voted for him all the way on "American Idol" & was thrilled when he won. I recommend it highly!

David Cook sets himself up to be a big strong rocker on the American Idol show but yet it seems most of his songs aren't "his". They're just watered down versions of rock songs because the company behind American Idol got him his contract and perhaps have him singing something else. There are a few songs that are really great and get your head and body moving to the beat; however most of the album just sounds like regular highschool tunes. The bonus track at the very end of the cd; the song he sung to win the competition; takes forwever to come and play. You have to skip to the song rather than letting it play out because there is literally this long silence after the song before it. Being that this is Davids' first album it's ok; however I expected more from the winner and self proclaimend "rocker" of the song.

Permanent is the best track on this album. Some of the songs are generic rock but over all not bad.

I have been WAITING and WAITING and WAITING for David Cook to release this CD ever since he won American Idol (and he won by 12 MILLION VOTES over David Archuleta!), and now that it's FINALLY out, I. Love. Love. LOVE IT!! He has such an amazing voice and so much talent...OMG! He is SO much better than David Archuleta! I'm actually listening to the CD right now--the best songs on it are, in my humble opinion, "Bar-ba-sol" and "Permanent", but this is THE BEST album I have EVER heard, and every single song is completely amazing. And as the title of my review suggests, could we have expected anything less of David Cook??

It's very rare for me to listen to a CD over and over again, and two months later, I'm still loving it! All the songs in the album are great, meaningful, and emotional (i.e.Permanent). I am not an American Idol watcher, but I heard David Cook's "Time Of My Life" on the radio, and fell in love with his voice! I have watched all of his performances (thanks You Tube!), and wish that I would have watched his amazing performances on live TV! I have three of his CD's, one is at work, the other one is at home, and the last one is in the car!! The first time I listened to it, I went right to the "Time of my life" song, but then I started listening to the other songs, and by the third time I was hooked! I highly recommend this CD!

This album is full of great songs and no one will be disappointed if they buy it. Permanent is filled with such raw emotion that it will break your heart everytime you listen to it-but you will listen over and over again.

Believe me when I say that this is one of the best current rock albums out there. This album is living proof that he deserved the title of American Idol. The versatility that won us all over on the show is translated onto his album. He shows us both his sensitive, sweet side in Permanent and his ability to rock out in Bar-Ba-Sol. This album is not without its downsides, though. The industry has taken away some of his originality, as it does with all American Idol contestants. He is more pop-y and generic than some of us would like. If you like his more grunge-rock sound, I'd recommend his first album, Analog Heart, though I do not know where to get it, as it as an independent production and was not distributed around the country.

I was a fan of David Cook on American Idol season 7, so much so that he was the only one I have ever voted for on the show. I was impressed by his natural talent and humbleness. I had much anticipated the release of his first album and was never able to find it in the music department at the stores. I finally bought the CD online. I really like the songs. The one thing that I found bothersome was the extremely long break from the last song into the "bonus tracks". Otherwise I thought it was a very good album, especially considering it is his first. I recommend it.

It is just the kind of DVD I was hoping he would make!!

After winning the 2008 edition of the cultural phenomenon that is ¿American Idol,¿ David Cook became an instant icon. And now, he has continued to live out his dream with the release of his self-titled debut album.

As a whole, Cook tends to interweave and alternate the typical rocker style he has become known for with a softer, more melodic approach. While the standard rock feel works very well for Cook, it is a little more difficult to take him seriously as a power ballad kind of guy. Although he can pull this off, listeners can identify his unfamiliarity with the style. But, with the type of talent this guy has, he¿s got plenty of room to grow.

Probably the most notable tracks on the album (beside the original song from ¿Idol¿) are ¿Declaration¿ featuring a cool 80s ¿hair band¿ vibe, ¿Heroes¿ and ¿Avalanche¿ with a particularly catchy hooks, and ¿A Daily Anthem¿ with its deeper lyrical content.

What seem be probably some of the weaker songs would have to be ¿Come Back to Me,¿ ¿Life on the Moon,¿ and ¿I Did It for You¿ which all seem to come off either a little soft or somewhat bland.

All in all, I¿d rate this CD a 3.75/5 or a solid ¿B¿ on the grading scale.

Although performers like Chris Daughtry, Bo Bice and Constantine Maroulis paved the way for rockers on ¿Idol,¿ Cook was the first to take the title. And, if this album is any indication, the single-platinum status he has earned from it will be one of many.

It is very rare that I buy a CD that I like more than 3 or 4 songs. With this CD I love every song except the AI rainbow song. I see a lot of hits coming from this CD.
