“A tiger, an alligator, and a redneck walked into my pawnshop…” Dead Eye is a light paranormal cozy mystery by Alyssa Day. It’s set in Dead End, Florida in the heart of the Florida Everglades teeming with alligators. It marks the engaging debut of her new Tiger’s Eye Mystery series. From what I understand, the hero of this tale was first introduced in the author’s Warriors of Poseidon series. He was obviously a hit and fans clamored for him to have his own series. Ta-da! Here it is! This story features Jack Shepherd, a solid six-foot, soldiering, motorcycling Bengal tiger shifter, and Tess Callahan, co-owner of Dead End Pawn with Jack. As the story opens, Jack has recently become aware that his uncle, Jeremiah, passed away and named him in his estate. His arrival in Dead End is heralded by the appearance of another dead body at the back door of Dead End Pawn. Jack had been unaware until then that his uncle had been murdered and that the crime remains unsolved. Jack vows then and there to uncover the killer and exact justice. Unfortunately for Jack and Tess, who join together in the quest to track down those responsible, danger and bad guys are lurking at every turn. The couple is kept busy deciphering clues and staying alive. I caught myself laughing out loud at the bantering between these two primary characters. Jack is sexy, protective and fun. Tess is spunky, resourceful and endowed with an intriguing super power of her own. Interestingly, Tess had a crush on Jack way back when she was sixteen. It’s been ten years since she’s seen him and she swears she’s totally over those swoony thoughts– until Jack walks in to Dead End Pawn and the chemistry sparks between them. I know this is a cozy mystery, but I honestly hankered for more romance between the two. Is it too much to hope that the next book will be a bit steamier? I plan to check it out soon! I also want to go back and learn more about Jack’s rip-roaring past. I believe if I’d had the connection to Jack from the beginning, I’d have upped my rating. Please take my newness to her writing and to these characters into account as it appears that Jack is much-loved going into this series. Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Dead Eye: “Tess, someone just dumped a dead body at your back door." "Not again," I moaned. He whirled around. "Not again? What the hell does that mean?" My knees gave out, and I collapsed back against the counter. "That's how I found Jeremiah.” --- There’s just not a huge market in used skulls these days. --- “The secret about tigers,” he said, blinking owlishly, “is that tigers bounce.” Before I could even process the ridiculousness of that, he leaned forward and kissed me. Jack was a champion kisser, even while drunk. I threw my arms around his neck, because my brain started to melt into my shoes. That’s when the universe exploded around us… If you are a fan of suspenseful, fun-filled, action-packed paranormal urban fantasies and/or are a Sookie Stackhouse fan (True Blood), you won’t want to let this series pass you by. Alyssa has been on my want-to-read list ever since she appeared on some panels I attended at the Coastal Magic Convention last year. I regret that it’s taken me so long to dive in to Dead Eye’s quirky world of murders, mayhem and dark magic and can’t wait to discover what will happen next in Dead End! My full review is published at Reading Between the Wines Book Club. Please check it out there!

“A tiger, an alligator, and a redneck walked into my pawnshop.” You know any book that starts out with that as an opening line is going to be great! This book belongs to the peculiar genre that’s best known for Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series – cozy paranormal mysteries with a dash of romance. Since I love all things paranormal, romance, and cozy mysteries, this was right up my alley. It was only after I started reading this that I discovered it ties in with a previous 8 book series. It was mildly confusing because it felt like there was a lot of backstory we were already supposed to know regarding the vampire war. However, the book is from Tess’s first person POV, so since she doesn’t really know that much about the other events, it was more of a minor annoyance. Dead End, Florida is full of interesting characters – some who are hiding some supernatural secrets – and Tess is one of them. Sometimes when she touches a person, she can see their death. Due to her secret, Tess has given up her dreams of college and has stayed in her hometown, working at the local pawnshop. Jack has been away for years, and has only come back because his uncle has died and left him half of the pawnshop. He intends to sign over his half to Tess and then head out again, but, of course, the morning he comes back, a dead body is dumped at the backdoor of the pawnshop – again. And that’s how Jack discovers that his uncle was murdered. But are the murders of two people in this small, weird town related? “Maybe the secret wasn’t that some people were so much braver than the rest of us. Maybe the secret was that you just quit giving a damn when you had nothing else to lose.” Tess is caring and brave, and protective of her friends. Jack was more of a cipher, at least for me coming in without any prior knowledge, but his flirting with Tess was adorable. There’s a definite attraction between Tess and Jack, though it doesn’t go beyond a few kisses in this book. I’m assuming that the “will-they-won’t-they” will, in true cozy mystery fashion, be an underlying theme of the series, and the ending definitely left the door open for more books. The mystery was pretty predictable, but, honestly, that didn’t really bother me. I feel like these types of cozy mysteries are more about exploring the partnership between the two main characters, and getting introduced to a cast of quirky characters, and the book doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s plenty of humor, including a tigger joke that made me choke on my tea. This was just so delightfully fun, and reading it put a smile on my face, and I happily added the next in the series to my TBR list. Recommended for anyone looking for a quick, fun, and cozy read – especially ones involving taxidermy alligators! I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

If you like your mysteries with humor and a bit of magic this is the story for you. This is a spin-off from another series but can be read stand alone with no issues. Who says you can’t go home again. You can but things will be very different as tiger shape-shifter Jack Shepherd finds out when he comes home after the war. His uncle was murdered and little Tess Callahan is all grown up and now your partner. Things are always strange in Dead Eye but things have gotten weirder than usual and Jack and Tess are determined to get to the bottom of it hopefully before it kills them. I really got a kick out of this. Fans of Charlaine Harris will enjoy this book.

Dead Eye is a light-hearted paranormal romance from a gem of an author, Alyssa Day. Jack, a tiger shifter, just found out that his uncle died while he was away serving in a secret ops unit. When he returns he discovers that he inherited his uncle's estate and that he is now the co-owner of a pawn shop with a spunky young woman from his past, Tess. Soon after arriving at the pawn shop a dead body shows up at the pawn shop's door. The body was murdered in the same manner his uncle was murdered…which is all news to Jack. Jack didn't know his uncle was murdered and now he will stop at nothing to uncover who killed his uncle. Jack together with Tess must unravel the danger brewing in Dead End, Texas. Dead Eye is a fun-filled, action adventure with an enticing mystery and sexy shifter. Day has penned some amazing characters, outstanding stories, and funtastic reading, my only regret was taking this long to rediscover the magic she created in Dead Eye. I immediately purchase the next to books in this series. I received this ARC copy of Dead Eye from Alyssa Day. This is my honest and voluntary review.

After reading the entire Atlantis series, I was always curious as to what would happen to Jack and I was truly not disappointed. Tess was awesome and couldn't imagine a better sparring partner for Jack. I would have liked to have a little more development in their relationship but I'm sure it will come out in the next few stories.

I have enjoyed Alyssa Day's books for years. This book picks up with Jack from her Warriors of Poseidon series, which, if you haven't yet read, I recommend you pick up and read too. As with her other books, this one grabbed me and kept my attention the entire time. The characters are well developed and interesting, and ones that you want to learn more about and wish you knew in real life. Personally, I was glad to see Jack get his own story and I cannot wait to see what else comes from the Tiger's Eye Mystery series. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a good story with fascinating characters you can fall in love with, cheer for and laugh with.

Dead Eye by Alyssa Day is the 1st book in her new Tiger’s Eye Series. I am a big fan of Alyssa’s Warriors of Poseidon series. I was thrilled to find out one of our favorite characters in that series was going to get his own story. Dead Eye is Jack’s series, which he will be the lead with Tess, our heroine. Jack returns home to Dead Eye, Florida and finds out his uncle was murdered. He hasn’t seen Tess, who was a kid when he left many years ago, and he is surprised to see a beautiful young woman. Jack inherits with Tess, the town pawn shop and a private investigation business. He learns from Tess about witches and a crooked sheriff, who are possibly behind his uncle’s murder, not to mention more murders that will come. Together both Jack and Tess will put their lives in danger to find out the truth, and stop the powerful witch. Anything more would be spoilers. It was great to see Jack again, and I really like Tess, who played a major role in this book. We can tell that Jack and Tess find themselves attracted to each other, but this is a slow build romance that we expect will be explored further in the next book. The last half of the book, was very exciting, and I sat on the edge of my seat to reach the tense climax. This series will revolve around Jack’s Tiger’s Eye private investigation business, which will keep him in Dead Eye with Tess. I look forward to the next book of this series, and what Alyssa Day has in store for us with Jack and Tess.

Loved it! While I always enjoy anything this author releases, I've been looking forward to seeing this character again! Jack is a force to be reckoned with and he's equally matched with a firecracker named Tess. Dead Eye was funny and engaging. While it's not necessary to read the Atlantis books first, it might help you understand Jack a little more.

A very entertaining and enjoyable read. The characters were well thought out and quite engaging. The paranormal aspects of the book were very thought provoking and I was left spell bound. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and was quite taken in by their individual quips and antics. I would highly recommend this book to the paranormal lovers. If you aren't or haven't been into paranormal type books, this book would still be an enjoyable read and it may even make a follower out of you. I can't wait for the next book of the series to come out! (I received an e-ARC of this book.)

This book takes place in the same world as The Warriors of Poseidon series that Alyssa Day had previously written. The events follow Jack Shepard, leader of the rebellion against the vampires, former partner of Quinn Dawson, powerful tiger shifter who was dragged back to life. Jack comes back to his hometown of Dead End, Florida where the government basically has no say. The supernatural has always been the norm there, and the town takes care of their own problems for the most part. Jack is coming home because he found out his uncle died and left him everything in his will. Tess Callahan is a woman who received half ownership of the pawn shop in Dead End from Jack's uncle. She is a smart, sassy, strong, and wonderfully flawed female lead. She is also one who suffers from death visions when people touch her, so she goes through her days trying to avoid physical contact with people. The electricity between Tess and Jack is immediate. It only ramps up once Jack decides to stick around town a bit, thanks to finding out that his uncle didn't just die but was murdered. Then, another body shows up at the pawn shop, and it stops being random. Jack will do anything to solve the mystery and keep Tess safe. Tess wants to solve the mystery to gain closure for the loss of a man she viewed as family. Together they work to solve the case that keeps twisting and turning around on itself. This is a romance, mystery, supernatural... well the genre can't exactly be defined. There are witches, shifters, psychics, and guns. There are plenty of unique characters in Dead End, including one with a stuffed gator named "Fluffy" that wears a colorful scarf (the gator, not the guy who owns him). There are new friends and even the arrival of an old friend from the Paranormal Ops division of the government. I found this book to be an excellent start to Jack's adventures. There's humor in that utterly geeky way. The romance aspect is realistic in the way that emotions and feelings never come at the right time in the right way. The electricity between Tess and Jack is phenomenal. I can honestly say that I can't wait until the next book to see what new trouble will find Jack and Tess.

Just finished "Dead Eye" A Tiger's Eye Mystery, I throughly enjoyed it. A laugh out loud fun time and a great read. It picks up Jack's story without the need to have read any of the previous books by Alyssa. Although I would highly recommend them. Tess is a strange, fun complicated, flawed and strong protagonist and the perfect compliment for Jack. The town of Dead End is filled with a great cast of characters who you want to know more about. Also I want Fluffy. Looking forward to "Private Eye" in February.

Dead Eye is another great book by Alyssa Day. I love that she writes with such vivid detail that it brings the characters and setting to life without bogging you down in so much detail you go cross eyed. The paranormal aspects are woven so well into the mystery that they juxtapose into a well driven plot that continually peaks your interests without revealing so much that you can figure out who the murderer is by the second chapter. I'm a long time fan of hardcore mysteries as well paranormal fiction and fantasy; too often when the genres are blended I feel like one genre or the other was sacrificed at the alter of the story. This is not the case with Dead Eye, the mystery blends seamlessly with the odd, but enjoyable, inhabitants of Dead Eye, FL. The main characters, Tess and Jack make a compelling team as they work through the mystery, and their shared grief. I love that their interplay is riddle with humor, sarcasm and subtle heat. They are both characters that you find yourself wishing you could hang out with. Even though Jack, is drawn from another of Alyssa Day's series this is a stand alone novel, and it is not necessary to have read the Warriors of Poseidon series. But if you haven't read the Warrior of Poseidon series I highly recommend it. I've never been disappointed in book I've read by Alyssa Day, and Dead Eye was no exception. My only complaint is that I don't already have the next Dead Eye adventure ready to read. Note: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
