It's sad, because I enjoyed this book quite a bit actually. However, finding out that Ms Saare uses rape as a ROMANTIC plot device further in the series means I won't being reading anymore of this series or Ms Saare in general. Rape happens, I get that, but to have the LOVE interest brutally rape the lead character, a woman presented as strong, and she is so spineless/stupid/pathetic she forgives him is intolerable. That's not a character I have any interest in getting to know any better. Can not recommend series to anyone.

CAUTION MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS] In truth, I didn't have high hopes for this book. I had never heard of this author prior to my purchase but the title drew my attention. I thought this would be about another spoiled heroine, but on the contrary, this book was as fascinating as its title. I was completely entertained and engaged through the entire book, and I love the authors creative view on the origins of the vampires. I know some people have complained about the ending's entirely different focus and cliff-hanger but I found it refreshing and exciting. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment The Renfield Syndrome. I highly recommend fellow dark urban fantasy readers give this book a try. For all the Rhiannon and Disco fans, check out the link on the author's site for the vignette "More Than Words". The scene takes place between the final two chapters of Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between, directly before Rhiannon leaves to go to her apartment.

A decent start to an urban fantasy series with lots of potential. The writing could have been better - smoother, more polished, less editorial mistakes, etc. - but the characters drew me in and kept me hooked. The strong romantic subplot adds lightness to an otherwise gritty mystery. Although some parts are a bit contrived, it's an entertaining story and I enjoyed it. The ending definitely elevated my rating; suffice to say that the next installment promises awesome worldbuilding and exciting new challenges. This revised edition also has some fun bonus material. It's worth a read if you enjoy urban fantasy with a romantic flare.

This book is a newly revised edition from the original 3 books. (this book number 1 in the series). this was an EXCELLENT murder/mystery with a great love twist tied in. the main character, Rihannon, is a kick ass check who's got her independence tied down... Disco is a vampire in need of her unique skills to help find out who's been killing his kind. This book had me on the edge of my seat constantly. Forget your classic and boring damsel in distress, this book takes that and puts it in on the spin cycle! this is a great refresher from books that seem to require a male rescuer.. which makes this exciting and unpredictable! this book has a great twist, and keeps you guessing who the culprit might be- trust me when I say, whatever you keep guessing- you will never get it right, that was the sweet spot for this book. I can't wait for the next in this series!! the ending to this book was a great cliffhanger, which had me begging for the author to hurry with the next set of revisions for the following books. Don't miss reading this book!!!!
