About the Author

California native born in Compton and raised in Long Beach California, Mimi Renee recalls that reading and writing has always been her passion from as far back as she could remember. As a young girl she read aloud to herself and others for fun and enjoyed volunteering to stand up to and read out loud in front of class as much as she could, when she was in grade school. During her sophomore year in high school where she attended at David Starr Jordan in north Long Beach, Mimi had learned that she was pregnant and was soon transformed to a continuation school to finish her high school term out at Will Reid continuation, in a special program for pregnant minors.

Though she was not proud of her situation she took pride in her child and promised to make the best out of her situation and her shot at motherhood. This was when her life turned from fun and games and strictly to a young working mother on the go with the Intention of giving her daughter the world. Mimi’s own live struggles as a teenage mother has even more so inspired her on future plans, to establish an intervention program for teens on sex awareness and a mentoring program for pregnant minors; with the message that it is still possible to believe and work hard for their dreams. Mimi truly believes in giving back!

Getting her life on track as a mother and not able to hang out with friends like she had in the past, Mimi reclaimed her passion for reading and would read countless books of different genre in her spare time, from authors like; Sister Souljah, Terry McMillan, Teri Woods, Nikki Turner, Shannon Holmes, Mary B. Morrison and Mary Monroe, that suddenly Mimi had become inspired to put her passion for writing into action. After writing her first line on the page of her notebook, she has continued writing manuscript after manuscript and enjoying every minute of it. Feeling confident she began to speak on her passion of writing and dream of becoming an Author to her family, friends and Co-worker’s, whom after reading her work encouraged her to get her work looked at for publication.

Absolutely LOVED this book! You don't find a lot of books where the setting is Compton, Ca, which is home for me. Everything was real and true and I found myself smiling and remembering the sound of SuWoo! Home is too dangerous to raise my family, so this gave me so many memories, good and bad. Compton is no joke and Mimi takes you there, showing the love in the hood and at the same time the hood can chew you up and spit you out! You don't want to pass this book up, trust me!!

I read this 649 page book in 2 days! Once I started I could not stop. I am so in love with Keisha and Cameron...no matter how you look at it, we all make choices that we have to live with and at some point in our lives we have to stop blaming our parents for what is happening in our lives. We all have to grow up and we get to watch Keisha do just that. Looking forward to part 2 from Mimi...
