When Hollywood heavyweight Shepard Brown fears someone is trying to kill him, he asks newly licensed private investigator Lorraine Keys to keep him safe. Friends with Shepard since elementary school, Lorraine knows he can be more than a little melodramatic. Though she agrees to meet him on location in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to review the situation, the last thing she expects is to find truth in his claims. After all, a poisoned pizza? But after getting caught in the center of yet another attempt on Shepard's life, Lorraine is forced to admit he's right about the danger - and determined to find a way to protect him while searching for the culprit.
With her meddling friend Barb along for the ride and her boss anxiously tracking her every move, Lorraine must juggle the chaos of a film set, the lure of the casinos, the mutual attraction of a hunky co-star, and a minefield of Shepard's ex-girlfriends all while keeping Shepard safe and uncovering the identity of the killer … before she becomes the next target.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews
The mystery world has a new heroine in Lorraine Keys. With the murder occurring about halfway through the novel, there is plenty of time to introduce this crazy cast of characters, and what a mixed group it is. Hollywood never seemed so entertaining and so out-of-touch with reality. Lorraine, however, does her best to keep it all together, and she does a superb job despite the odds against her. It’s not your usual mystery, but then it’s not your usual setting either. Atlantic City never looked so good, and a movie set adds another level of debauchery. The supporting cast proves as interesting as the main character and nearly as much fun. And the suspect list increases with each turn of the page. You don’t get to be a Hollywood movie star without making a few enemies along the way and being a playboy doesn’t win Shepard Brown many friends beyond Lorraine and Eddie. If you’re looking for a laugh, then you don’t need to look much beyond this debut mystery novel. It’ll keep you guessing and entertained all the way to the end.
