Deal Breakers: When to Work on a Relationship and When to Walk Away by Bethany Marshall

Deal Breakers is about getting out of "relationship purgatory" -where the present is unfulfilling and the future is the only thing you can hope for. But there is no magic future. If he won't work on problems today, it's unlikely they'll ever be resolved. And passively hoping for change will only cost you years of depression or expensive therapy.

Psychoanalyst Dr. Bethany Marshall exposes the five personality types of most difficult men and the common deal breakers that, if left unchallenged, keep women trapped in unhappy relationships. Some deal breakers are obvious-one partner wants marriage, the other doesn't-while others are more subtle and difficult to pinpoint from within. Yet all are signs that a relationship needs to either dissolve or change. Filled with anecdotes and case studies that will provoke many a light-bulb response, Deal Breakers clearly and thoughtfully shows you how to promote positive change and get the relationship you want and deserve.

I was in a so so relationship going nowhere slowly, and never feeling truely happy or fulfilled. After reading this book i started putting a few deal breakers into play. Surprisingly my boyfriend responded. What made it work was realizing i had a part to play. I had to listen to him too. I needed to show him i appreciated the effort he put forth. The advice in this book helped me get the relationship we both wanted and gave us the initial framework to get it done. I read many books and this is the first time i have ever felt compelled enough to write a review. I hope this book will change another person's relationship for the better or give someone the clarity to find happiness being single.

The sections on the five different types of guys out there are kind of interesting, however her solutions for working with them seem based on the idea that men think about relationships the same way women do. I'd love to know if this author has a husband who'll work thru problems they way she thinks men should, and if she does I need to meet his brothers.

Quick, easy, and to the point, Deal Breakers outlines the ins and outs of bad boys' bad behavior, how to deal, and when to let go. While Marshall is full of insight and good advice, the book is plagued with Stuff You Already Know. Innovative it isn't, but enjoyable and useful all the same.

What an amazing book! I recommended it to a therapist who also enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. It serves as a reminder to NOT overlook things we, as women, often overlook. I will read this book every quarter so as to have that constant reminder of what to look for, and when to ditch the guy who doesn't deserve you.

This is a great read about when to walk or when to stay. Sometimes, it's confusing, but this book really helps out with that age old question. I would suggest this one to friends.

Easy format helps readers to easily flip to the chapters that apply to them! Use a highlighter. think and recall situations and use it as a tool to gage the committment level of your lover. It prompted communication for us and I saw how he is a great man and we got engaged after I read it!

Bascially, this book is about when to stay in a relationship that may or may not be driving you crazy and when to leave so you won't go crazy. The author has a great plan of action and things you can do to know how to make the right choice for yourself. A great read and some great insight to the age old question of should you leave or should you stay?
