This was a very interesting story with lots of unpredictable twists and turns. I liked the characters and the unexpected things that kept happening. There are a lot of people that you thought could be trusted, who turned out to be on the wrong side. This book quickly ensnares you so you can't put it down until you finish the book. I do hope there is a continuation of the book because I want to read more to find out the answers to some questions that I have. If you're looking for a new author or even a good book, you won't be disappointed with this one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Caroline Austin was running down a rain-soaked street, her wounds bleeding and stinging. She heard footsteps pounding on the sidewalk behind her. She turned a corner and Lucius was standing in front of her. He picked her up and saw a fresh wound on her chest – she was dying! He was furious because she was “protected” and was not to be harmed. She started to speak and he made her sleep. Veronica Austin had returned to Minneapolis after 20 years away, now trying to find out what happened to her Mother 20 years ago. Caroline had been part of an organization studying the Deamhans. Veronica’s father, currently President of the Midwest Division, actually runs the organization called The Brotherhood, but he was not going to help her, seemed to have wiped out all trace of her mother, and had no regard for Veronica at all. Now she stood in front of a building named “Dark Sepulcher”, where she was investigating its dark secrets and where she would begin the search for her mother. The club was owned by a vampire. Generally they were the same thing to Veronica but, while vampires lived off the blood of humans, Deamhan lived off the psychic energy generated by humans in different ways. This is a fascinating book that gives the reader a history of the differences between vampires and Deamhan, the different type of Deamhan, and a glimpse of their various powers. But the focus on Veronica's mother’s disappearance and Veronica compelling need for answers about what happened to her drives the story and uncovers a number of astounding secrets and a frightening mystery. There are more books to come, so get a grounding and understanding through this detailed introduction. Vampires will look tame once you see what the Deamhan are capable of doing! Don’t miss the adventure and see if Veronica survives her investigation and learns her mother’s fate!

Deamhan was a complete surprise as I was expecting a different type of story. What I got was an exceptionally well-written paranormal tale. This is a unique and creative read. Our main character Veronica has grown up without her mother and her father keeps part of what happen from her. Veronica decides to look for her mother and thus her adventure begins as she is thrust into Deamhan. A wonderful adventure from beginning to end. A real page turner. I highly recommend. Received a copy from Booksprout and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Veronica wants to know why her mother was murdered years ago so she goes searching for answers. She's not your average girl, she knows that vampires and other creatures are real and a threat to humans. Be prepared for mystery, suspense, and lies. Veronica has to keep her guard up because it seems that everyone has their own agenda and she can't trust just anyone. Was her father behind her mother's death?? Ready to dive into the 2nd book

I really enjoyed the world building and characters in this book. Deamhan's and vampires are a different species although a little similar. They are not to be trifled with. Like anything else there are good and bad. We meet Veronica who is seeking to find out what happened to her Mother 20 years ago. She's affiliated with The Brotherhood which research "others" being Deamhans and Vampires. Her Father is head of a section of them. They are estranged and it seems he cares but I dont know. I had trouble liking Veronica and having sympathy of her trying to find her Mother. She just kept getting into trouble and then going back into the club. She's attacked several times and TSTL comes to mind. There are a lot of different kind of species and I was confused quite a bit trying to keep them straight. There werent any characters that really stood out for me except Remy which is weird because we dont see him much. I have read Remy's book so its interesting to go back to the beginning here and see him. There are some typos in this book which was distracting and some of the word usages were incorrect. It was hard for me to really get into this book. I'm surprised because I do love different and this totally is. I didnt hate it but its not something I'd read again personally.

Having read this series a bit out of order, I have admit it was nice to go back to the beginning and get a little bit more of back history on how the author has been building up with world. I've read plenty of vampire books and they all seem to kind of blend into each other. However, Deamhan is a refreshing new twist to this concept. Victoria's journey to find her mother turns into something more the further she get's into this "new world". Secrets are reveals, lies are discovered, and a conspiracy that may have to do with her own father begins to unravel. The characters are interesting, and you never know for sure who is helping because they really wish or if they have their own hidden agenda. Great introduction, can't wait to immerse myself into the rest!

Reviewed by Michelle Randall for Readers' Favorite You have heard of vampires, they consume blood, but no one really thinks they exist, yet they do. What you may not know is there are also deamhan, they consume psychic energy, and Veronica Austin has grown up all her life knowing about this because her father's organization studies them. Against her father's wishes, Veronica has left California and come to Minnesota, where her mother disappeared, to find out what happened. Her first encounter with both the vampires and the deamhan throw her for a loop because they are nothing like what her father had always told her - oh, a few are, but not all of them. Deamhan follows Veronica as she searches for information on her mother and at the same time uncovers information on her father and his organization. Author Isaiyan Morrison weaves a story of power and corruption and people doing whatever it takes to stay on top without regard for who they harm. Deamhan is slated as the first book in this series, and it sets the story, leads to more things to come, and yet doesn't resolve all the past. There is so much power and corruption in this story, there are more things from the past that need to come out, and more things in the future that need to be resolved. It is shaping up to be a wonderful series. Author Isaiyan Morrison creates a race of people in the deamhan that you find yourself liking, even though at the beginning of the book you aren't suppose to like them. They are deeper, more complex, and there is more to them than meets the eye. This is a great read.

Veronica Austin knows something that most humans do not. She knows that vampires really do exist and more importantly, that they are not the only supernatural creatures that pose a threat to humans. Daughter of Samuel Austin, President of the Midwest Division of a secret organisation known as The Brotherhood, Veronica has been raised to believe that these creatures, Deamhan, are dangerous and not to be trusted. Still, she relocates to Minneapolis, Minnesota the city in which she was born to search for answers regarding her mother's disappearance. It has been twenty years since Veronica lost her mother Caroline, a researcher for the organization that her father now leads. Despite the very real threat to her life, Veronica enters the proverbial lion's den, seeking answers from the Deamhan and Vampires alike, answers that neither her father nor The Brotherhood have been willing to give her. Thus this suspenseful and action-packed story begins as the beautiful Veronica catches the eye of many Deamhan and Vampire alike. Some are only interested in making her a quick and easy meal while others have had their curiosity piqued by the bold and foolish human and now seek answers of their own. Meanwhile, Veronica's father and his trusted underlings inside The Brotherhood do everything in their power to ensure that she never learns the truth. From a creative standpoint, this story is a real masterpiece. I love the dark and dangerous world that the author has created and all of the complex and multifaceted characters both supernatural and human alike. Nearly every scene is both graphic and visceral, pulling the reader right into the story until you can visualize every moment, hear each sound and inhale each scent. The constant threat of danger goes hand in hand with an underlying dark sensuality that keeps you squirming on the edge of your seat! Mechanically there were some typos and an inconsistency or two that disappointed me given the overall intricate details of the rest of the story. As a reader, I am a real stickler for the details but I just couldn't bring myself to take anything away from my rating given the brilliance of the author's creative mind and talent for characterization. You may find yourself empathizing with and rooting for some of these Deamhan even though they could end your life without a thought. I mean we all have to eat, right? I am eagerly looking forward to spending more time with these fascinating characters. I recommend Deamhan to any and all paranormal fans!

New author and series alert! Reading on the dark side just got more intriguing, a little more crowded and a lot scarier thanks to the bold writing of Isaiyan Morrison and Deamhan, the flagship novel of her series, The Deamhan Chronicles. Sometimes survival means blending in, or hiding out and as the human population grew, the better the Deamhan got at blending in. Who are they? Deamhan are the real vampires, not the ones that have captured the imaginations of the world, and they can be one’s worst nightmare… and, they are Psychic… Welcome to the world of dark politics, evil machinations and one woman’s fight to discover what happened to her mother. Told from alternating POVs, we are given a ride through the mysterious, the dark and the unimaginable, so strap in, and keep your hands inside the vehicle, unless of course, you are offering up a few pints of blood. Victoria and her mother were always close, their bond strong, and when Caroline goes missing, her daughter will go through hell for answers. Little did she know what she would stumble upon, has she the strength and determination to continue her fight or will the deamhan and their “lifestyle” send her running? Will what she uncovers resonate like a shockwave through the word or she discover something that hits much closer to home? Isaiyan Morrison doesn’t just weave a dark tale, she uses barbed wire as her yarn, as she boldly reveals layer upon layer of intense and jagged intrigue. He imagination will capture your mind from page one and the biggest disappointment will be that this volume must end, I for one, am onboard for the next addition to this series, be advised, this is no fluffy tale of sparkles and romance, this is grit, true grit and completely addicting. For how enlightened we all think we are, there are those among us that hide right in front of us, and one day you might need them, so be kind to strangers, you never know what they may be capable of.

This was a great follow up to the Deamhan book, one that I really enjoyed for its simple originality. This book picks up right where the other leaves off so i recommend you read that first, lest you get lost in all the vampire goodness. I will never look at Minneapolis the same after reading this series! By setting the story in a middle of America city it gives you the feel that these beings could be anywhere. I thought that was a nice touch. You expect weirdness in some of the larger cities but Minneapolis is about as normal as a city can get. The writing was nice and tight and kept the story fresh and moving

You never know who the true enemy is until its too late. An action packed paranormal story of one woman's quest to find the truth in an otherworldly and dangerous world. The world building was very well done and I loved the new take on vampires. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue in this book as well and I had a great time figuring everything out with Caroline. The Deamhan are an interesting race that although very similar to vampire's are actually a new type of paranormal creature with their own rules and needs. The author did a great job of introducing these new creatures and showing us their lifestyle without getting to wordy. The imagery she used was beautiful and drew me into the story, making it seem like I was actually there. Caroline is a strong and courageous young woman who wants answers. I loved her spirit and tenacity and how she never gave up. She is loyal to a fault and will stop at nothing to achieve justice for her mother. I really enjoyed getting to know her more and seeing how she grew throughout the story. This is an action packed paranormal thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seats!
