I have been reading this book to my daughter since she was 6 months old. Though intrigued, she didn't get into flipping the flaps until 7 months of age. But, as soon as she was interested, I was surprised at how well she could figure out how to open all the flaps. The story is simple enough, the illustrations are great, and I love that the flaps all open from a different side on every page so that baby keeps engaged. She is 11 months now and still loves this book. Each animal gets a kiss before she gingerly closes the flap and turns the page. This will surely become a classic addition to any nursery.

This is a classic story that I have read and reread with my young girls over the years. They really enjoy lifting the flaps to see and say which animal is hiding behind them. I had bought this 25th anniversary edition to replace my old, worn copy. However - once I got home I noticed that they "updated" all the pictures. They are not the same as in the original edition! I was very disappointed, and so were my girls. I don't understand why they (the publishers? the author?) felt the need that this classic story needed new illustrations. It was perfect the way it was. What a bummer!

My 5 year old kid is at a 3 year level in acedemics - unfortunate effect of giving custody to mom for so long. He loved it!
