This story originally unfolds as a romance; however, you will soon find out that it has some serious convictions and situations that surround the characters lives. Lex Martin writes about a woman named Clementine who is a Best Selling Young Adult Author in college. Her mother treats her like she doesn't exist, she becomes unintentionally distant from her brother, her Professor has a dark side, and her ex-boyfriend toys around with her best friend so I don't blame her for having trust issues. Well...then she meets Gavin. Clementine realizes that Gavin is a very attractive man; yet, at first, she dismisses his subtle advances toward friendship because of her past hardships. What catches and holds my attention throughout the entire story are the characters. Clementine is beautiful to everyone, except she doesn't see it when she looks in the mirror. She feels self conscious and keeps her distance with everyone that shows an interest in her. Her friends are total divas that love her and try to protect her even though they know her self damaging tendencies do more harm than anything else. Gavin is a reporter and a guitarist who played football in high school, so all of the women find him naturally irresistible, especially Angry Red. And then there is Jason Wheeler. I love the mystery that the author brings to the plot even though he is a monster which no one should care to sympathize with. This twist makes the other characters human and more likeable in my opinion. The pace was a little quicker than I am used to; however, this does not hamper your imagination because the author provides enough vivid description to allow you to see the point of the story. I was thoroughly engaged in Clementine's life that I found myself wanting her to sleep with Gavin earlier in the story. The tension that builds between the two characters and the emotions expressed are so unnerving but the relationship does not continue until there is a solid foundation of trust which I can definitely appreciate. I recommend this story to my female club members since it is based on Clementine's point of view. The story digs deep into her life to share with the reader what she is feeling and how she is learning to break free of the chains from her past that she has forged herself into. I really enjoyed reading about her struggles because I relate to them and I feel that some of the dilemmas that she faces will allow others to have empathy with Clementine's thought process. I am very enthusiastic about reading Lex Martin's next book called Finding Dandelion which will be about Clementine's brother, Jax. WARNING: This is for a mature audience since it does contain language and sexual content.

This was good, but I had high expectations after Reckless (and Shameless). I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars. So obviously I enjoyed the book, otherwise I wouldn’t have rated it so high. That being said, I didn’t love it like I loved Reckless. Not 100% sure why exactly. The characters were great, and I thought it was pretty funny. Each of Lex’s books that I’ve read have an “issue” and/or deeper emotions in them, so they’re not super light. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for something like that? Gavin is going on my book boyfriend list. He was so adorable! I liked Clementine, and her friends/roommates. Jax was kind of entertaining, and I felt like we might be seeing more of him in the future. Guess we’ll see. This book can definitely hit you with some feels; the family/ex-boyfriend parts resonated with me quite a bit. I can’t wait to read the rest of this trilogy. It was a good new adult romance overall, but I would still recommend Shameless and Reckless. I’m not sure anything is going to compare to those. #sorrynotsorry

I am so glad that I got the opportunity to read Dearest Clementine. The synopsis really caught my attention, as I was in the mood for something a little different in the New Adult genre. I was very intrigued by the mystery element of the story. I haven’t read many New Adult books that have combined a mystery into the story. I’ve read plenty of stories in which the characters have had a mysterious past, but not where there is a separate, ongoing mystery going on. I also wanted to know the details as to why Clementine became the person that she was. What happened in her past to make her bitter and closed-off? I really had to admire Clementine. Although she came from a wealthy family, she worked her way through college. She took on three jobs, one of those was authoring a book! I thought it was cool how she went through the indie route, and we got to experience a little bit of the process through her eyes. Another thing I enjoyed about the story was the character dynamic. It was nice that Clementine and her friends could be so open and honest with each other. They just seemed to feel free to be themselves or say whatever they wanted, without feeling dumb. The roommates were like a little family. Just so you know, I'm including Ryan (Jenna's boyfriend) here. Although he was not technically one of her roommates, he may as well of been *insert grin*. He was always hanging out at the apartment and adding to the fun. Thankfully, he was a good guy overall. One of my favorite parts in the story was the second half of Chapter 14. I loved how I got to see a different side of Clementine, and how she found a kindred spirit. I was really happy to see the new friendship form. The only thing I questioned in Dearest Clementine, was how outwardly perfect the two main characters appeared at times-- especially Gavin. Not only were they extremely beautiful people, but it seemed like they excelled at everything they did, from their jobs to their studies to singing/music. I think I was just expecting some kind of flaw from Gavin? He was almost too perfect. Of course, Clementine had me when she mentioned that he looked like Henry Cavill (swoon). With that said, I found Dearest Clementine to be an enjoyable read. This story was all about forgiveness and second chances, and learning to move on when things haven’t gone well in life. I am looking forward to the next book, Finding Dandelion, where we get to read Dani’s story!

This is a slow burn romance, which is great, but when things finally start happening, I personally prefer more heat, more explicitness. More love scenes in general are needed. I really liked the characters and the light storyline, but it was a bit too tame for me. I was quite disappointed when there were only two sexual encounters and neither one was anything to write home about, especially after all the build-up. If you want a tame romance about two memorable characters, this might appeal to you. As for me, I felt let down by the lack of sensuality.

Bought this to try, looking for a quick easy read. Wasn't sure I wanted a New Adult book as it might be too angsty...or something. Especially as I'm FAR from being of comparable age! . While there is definate angst there is good reason for it. While the plot was kind of predictable, I found myself enjoying the book so much that I'll probably be buying the next two in the series to find out what happens to Jax and Daren. Gavin was wonderful! And I liked how Clem tried so hard to break her old cycle of behaviors. Jenna and Ryan made me roll my eyes but in a nice way. Wonder if a book with Harper is next?

I love a good college romance. This book was great because we not only got a great love story but a little mystery too. Although I figured it out pretty early on I still loved that it was there. Clementine and Gavin are so good together. I can't wait to read Jax's story.

This was such a great read. It had everything you look for in a great NA: great writing, romance, a well-thought-out plot, but this one also had a healthy level of suspense and danger that really made DEAREST CLEMENTINE stand out. I'd definitely recommend it!

I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Gavin Murphy. OMG, i loved this book - cover to cover. The story is very well developed. I enjoyed all of the characters. The broken heart was very real. The stalker and additional mystery woven throughout added the right amount of drama. I loved the stacks AND I always was fond of baseball! I look forward to more of this series. ARC provided in exchange for honest review.

This is not the book I expected based on the synopsis. I was looking for a light read with quite a bit of sarcasm and humor. The book that we got was so much more. What I didn't expect was the depth of the characters as well as the issues they face. I'll admit that I was pleasatly surprised. I was sad that I figured out a major part of one of the sub-plots about 35% of the way in, but the book was written so well that I wasn't all that disappointed. There were enough other tangents to keep my mind occupied and flowed naturally throughout the book. The characters were well developed and faced issues that anyone would face as they are maturing. Clem's personal growth from HS to college is written out so well that I felt like I knew her. We all have growing pains and hers were not trivialized in the least. I'm proud that Lex all the issues and insecurities out there for us to see. She also provided us with the reasoning behind many of her actions. Clem has a fabulous support system of friends and saw lucky enough to meet Gavin. He's a hottie with patience and understanding. He's also nurturing, plays guitar, is in a band and has wanted to ask Clem out for 3 years. KUDOS on your debut novel. I look forward to reading much more from Lex Martin.
