Lara Bradburn has returned to the small town where her brother was killed in a hit and run accident. While there, she becomes friends with Crystal Mar, who is also a tenant. When Crystal is brutally murdered in her home, Lara becomes the guardian of Karma, Crystal's 4-year-old daughter. Shortly after, Lara becomes the target of someone who wants her to leave. Are the death threats really directed at her, or at the child who may have seen her mother's killer? Is the handsome stranger, newly released from prison, a man Lara can trust .. or is he the cold blooded killer? I enjoyed the storyline very much and I fell in love with Karma. The characters seem to be fine-tuned. My only complaint would be the sheriff who, at times, was a bit over the top. Being this is taking place in a small town, maybe law enforcement can afford to be different from what you would normally expect. There is a lot of action.. and more than one dead body shows up. I disliked a couple of people .. but I'm pretty sure that is what the author was aiming for. There were actually a couple of mysteries...and I did guess one right. But the real mystery of the killer was not revealed until the very end...and it wasn't who I was betting on. Very good book overall! And I really liked the cover! Many thanks to Vickie Britton who so graciously sent me the e-copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
