A contemporary fantasy featuring time travelling Assyrian sisters, a circus in hiding, a body-snatching Demon seeking self-actualization, and heroic elephants.

Theda wants only to get home to Nineveh, but her sister Irene believes controlling the demon and exploiting his unlimited power is the way to go. Theda must come to grips with her own role in this black magic mix-up and risk her bond with home, family, her beloved elephants and life itself in order to stop an ancient evil from being unleashed upon an unsuspecting modern world.

A new author and new twist. Exciting, fast paced, lots of unexpected turns, and a bit of old fashioned if unconventional sex appeal. I liked it as light entertainment. A good airplane read.

This is a fine fantasy novel, unique in all aspects, with eccentric characters and a driving story line. Two sisters anger supernatural powers in ancient Babylon and are exiled through time to present day America, where they find sanctuary with a small traveling circus on the brink of financial ruin. A curse and a demon pursue them through a roller-coaster ride of a story with a white-knuckle conclusion. The author is a keen observer of human behavior, and can touch you with a character’s humanity when you don’t expect it. She also knows history, and conjures the ancient past and off-the-beaten-track present with equal confidence and clarity. A funny, touching, suspenseful and well-written tale.
