The title - Death List, Trail of Terror - comes from the fact that the prison warden for Colorado State Penitentiary revealed to the press that three men—Dalton Loyd Williams, Jerry Ben Ulmer, and Richard Mangum—had escaped, leaving a record of the people they intended to seek revenge upon for putting them in prison, either in Texas or Colorado. Headlines flashed around the nation and abroad about this murderous trio after a rancher in West Texas was gunned down on his front porch. In one of the largest manhunts in Texas history, the search was on to recapture these convicts before more people were checked off the "death list."

My Dad was one of the police officers involved and the convicts were finally caught on my grandparents' ranch. I've grown up hearing the stories of "the escaped convicts" and how Smokey and Paddles caught the bad guys. This book told the entire story of who the convicts were and how the entire event took place. I could not put the book down once I started it.
