A runaway spell is the most dangerous weapon of all.

Vampires aren't supposed to feel anything beyond hunger and bloodlust, but Viktor still feels a whole lot. He hates what he's become, but there's no escape. Not from the dying city smothering him, or from his maker, an arrogant tyrant who demands absolute loyalty.

Ketha's a shifter and a seer, for all the good it does her. Not enough magic is left to power much of anything. In a rare victory, an image forms in her glass, and she understands how magic broke the world--and how to fix it. The only antidote is an alliance with vampires, but she can't convince anyone to cooperate.

Desperate and trapped, she turns what's left of her magic on the Vampire assigned to lock her away. He's different, not quite as callous or aloof as his kin. It's a gamble, but she's out of options. Maybe magic can't bail them out, but love might be able to salvage what's left.

Shifters and vampires have broken the Earth. Literally. Can they put aside their differences and try to fix it before everyone dies?

Viktor is a vampire that has kept his humanity & hates being a vampire. Ketha is a shifter & a seer that, along with 11 other shifters, that came to harness the power of an eclipse. Ushuaia is where they meet when she lets herself get caught by the vampires. She has a way to help them leave Ushuaia, but they have to team up to reverse a spell that went terribly wrong & set the world topsy turvy. Viktor & Ketha can’t deny their attraction to each other, but it was a mating between a shifter & vampire that caused the spell to go terribly wrong in the first place. Come along for a ride that keeps you hanging on by your fingertips, and rooting that they will be able to survive the curse and have a HEA. I love Ann’s stories. They are all so vividly written with well-thought out & complex characters. This book does not disappoint.

Very consuming tale of an upside down world. Ketha is a very strong and determined seer, her gift is powerful but her grim existence is draining. Their dire situation is described so well and is so detailed that I didn't have to wonder what they did to survive. It is so realistic that I was pondering if I would be able to do that to survive. :0 Viktor is different, I've never read tell of a vampire that didn't love being a vampire, lol but if your heart ain't in then you fake it. His situation is dangerous, his instant connection to a shifter is puzzling but these two form a bond and are destined. It was very interesting reading how they dealt with their predicament and their urgent desire to make things better before its too late.

I have read one other book by Ann Gimpel and immediately wanted to follow this author. Some of hers knock me on my butt, others I can pass on. Not because of her writing, its always top notch. She writes different genres and some I am not interested in. As noted by the title, this is Book 1 in the Bitter Harvest series. It is new take on vampires, shifters and humans and a new world . There is mystery, magic, romance, suspense, its a story covering all the variables. I volunteered to review this book and received a copy free of charge. Looking forward to book2!

This is first book, in the authors Bitter Harvest Series. I had no clue as to what the story was about, well it turned out to be about a spell, that had gone wrong many years before, and it was slowly destroying the earth. The backstory for how this happened, and what occurred during those years, is fascinating. We have shifters, magic and vampires and humans as well; and as you read you'll learn the good, the bad, and everything in-between that is slowly poisoning nature in such a way that the earth is now on a course of total destruction. We learn that there may be one way to stop and revive the planet; but is it real or just a myth. If it's real can the different races put aside there distrust and hatred for each, and work together in time to save not only themselves, but the planet and every living thing on it. Will they agree to it, even if it means they might forever be changed, becoming something new, neither just vampire or shifter. This story is filled with surprising twist and turns, even impossible love and I can't wait to see what happens in Book 2.

MAGIC GONE WRONG. Deceived is the first book in the Bitter Harvest series. The book can be read as a standalone. But it does end in a soft cliffhanger for the next book. There is violence. The sex is hot and steamy so definitely 18+. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author did a great job of explaining what is going on in the world. This is not your typical vampire and shifter story. The storyline will keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. It definitely kept me riveted. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
