Deception Island by Brynn Kelly

A stolen boy

A haunted soldier

A cornered con woman…

Rafe Angelito thought he was done with the demons from his past—until his son is kidnapped. Blackmailed into abducting an American heiress, the French Foreign Legionnaire soon finds himself trapped in paradise with a woman who's nothing he expects…and everything he desires. But when he uncovers her own dark secret, Rafe realizes he's made a critical mistake—one that could cost him everything.

Playing body double for a spoiled socialite was supposed to be Holly Ryan's ticket to freedom. But when she's snatched off her yacht by a tall, dark and dangerous stranger, the not-quite-reformed con artist will make a desperate play to turn her captor from enemy to ally, by any means necessary.

Yet as scorching days melt into sultry nights, Holly is drawn to the mysterious capitaine, with his unexpected sense of honor and his searing touch. When they're double-crossed, they'll have to risk trusting each other in ways they never imagined…because in this deadly game of deception, it's their lives—and hearts—on the line.

Rafe "Jack" Angelito, in order to save his own kidnapped son Theo, in turn kidnaps society 'Princess' Laura Hyland. Holly Ryan was pretending to be the daughter of the well known Senator and future President. Now on an island in the middle of nowhere they have only to each other to depend on. With the threat of modern day pirates and Rafe's worry over his son they begin to see beyond the surface and like the people under the veneer presented. What will happen when the truth comes out? From the very first paragraph to the last you will keep the pages turning as you become part of the story and live the adventure with them. Fast paced and well written, "Deception Island" has something in it for everyone. My rating is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Gripping romantic suspense doesn't get much better than this! “He cradled her neck, urging her closer. A bead of sweat trailed down his back. She dug her fingers into his waist, giving him all the invitation he needed to explore her mouth. She tasted salty and sweet. The breath of her sigh danced over his tongue. She untangled their hands and swiveled onto his lap, wrapping her bare legs around him, linking her feet behind his back. Mon dieu. It was too much - and not nearly enough.” DECEPTION ISLAND by Brynn Kelly is an exciting, heart-stopping romantic thriller with a suspenseful built-up through-out. Let me make this clear: This is not a book to pick up to put yourself to sleep as I absolutely could not put it down until I'd finished it. Fate throws two broken individuals together in circumstances that seem to guarantee that neither will win. I loved the dynamics between the hero and heroine and how trust and feelings grew between Rafe and Holly as the story progressed and the danger increased exponentially. You should expect a plethora of dreaded perils including deadly pirates, snakes, sharks and snakes, fast paced adventure and high-stakes action in lush tropical settings. The book actually derives its name from the initial island where Rafe held Holly hostage; It was a remote honeymoon destination whose name translated to 'Deception Island.' Supporting characters will pluck at your heartstrings including a spunky little boy and a strong woman in a camp where Holly is held. Just thinking about the story now after finishing it weeks ago still makes my heart flutter. Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this thriller: “Pretending to him that she felt something would be easy. Pretending to herself that she didn't? That was a whole other story.” --- “How do I say 'kiss me' in French?" she whispered. "Embrasse moi." Oh yes, even that sounded better in French.” --- “I'll shower, then we can go. I smell like a zombie." Hell, if the undead looked like that, bring on the zombie apocalypse.” This book marks the debut for this author and I look forward to reading more from her! If you enjoy romantic suspense, DECEPTION ISLAND should be on your to-read list! Gripping romantic suspense doesn't get much better than this! 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars!

I could not put this book down! The action kept me turning pages. The darkness of both Holly and Rafe was very gritty, and I loved their connection. My heart pounded when theirs did. Tears formed at times. I laughed at the witty remarks. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more.
