Decidedly Off Limits (By The Bay, #1) by Stina Lindenblatt

Best Friend Rule #1: never want the guy's sister.

Oops.

Trent Salway is one of San Francisco's hot up-and-coming-under-thirty bachelors. A highly successful mutual fund portfolio manager, a workaholic, and a ladies' man, he's got everything he could possibly want…except one thing.

Physical therapist Kelsey Quaid dumped her ex-fiancé six months ago because she was tired of not even being a distant second to his career. Which is why despite secretly crushing on her big brother's best friend for as long as she can remember, there's no way Kelsey can go there. One workaholic in her life is more than enough, thank you very much.

Before Kelsey's brother leaves on his Navy SEAL mission, he asks Trent one simple request: make sure Kelsey isn't dating any assholes while he's away. As Trent does his best to do just this, he and Kelsey spend more and more time together. Sparks fly, as do a few items of clothing, and the next thing they know things are getting physical between them. Now, Trent has to decide what to do about the woman he's falling for—the one whose brother would take him down faster than he takes down the enemy. And Kelsey will have to decide if Trent is just another workaholic or if he's decidedly off limits.

I thought this was a good story and I enjoyed reading it but I did have a few issues. It was fast paced, light, and entertaining. There was a nice intro and I thought it had a good progression throughout. I wasn't initially getting the main characters chemistry but around 40% things started to click for me. It wasn't super in depth, just enough details and character development to keep things moving along nicely. There were lots of funny situations mixed in and I really liked those parts. Here's the deal, it was all just good for me. I liked it, it was cute, it was fun, there was a nice amount of heat but I never felt completely drawn in. I liked the secondary characters for the most part but there was one I just didn’t get at all. I did like the ending, it was sweet and heartfelt but it felt rather rushed. I enjoyed it for the most part and was curious how it would turn out so I kept right on reading, I did like it, there were just some things that didn't work for me but overall I did enjoy the storyline. So, a good, fun read it is. Complimentary copy received for honest review.

Decidedly Off Limits by Stina Lindenblatt is the first book in her latest series, By The Bay . A heart-warming romance told in dual POV. The trope on this story is best friends brother/brother's best-friend. While this may sound complicated it is a well-crafted, slightly angsty, emotional and steamy read. Trent has had eyes for his little sister's best friend for as long as he can remember. If her status as his sister's bestie didn't make her off-limits then the fact the she is also the little sister of his best friend. Off-limits times two! But when he is asked by his best friend to "watch out" for Kelsey while he was away on deployment all bets are off. He is going to stake his claim and hope he doesn't lose his best friend in the process. Kelsey has been head-over-heels for Trent since her high school but her best friend, Trent's sister, has a rule in place - he cannot date her friends any more, ever, the end! Well, when Trent suddenly starts showing up everywhere she is, interrupting dates, she just can't take it anymore. The attraction is unbearable and pretty soon somethings gong to break. She would prefer it be the bed frame and NOT her heart!. Witty, romantic, steamy and slightly-angsty this was well-written and well-paced. Enjoy!

This has got to be one of the sweetest brother's best friend love stories ever!  Trent and Kelsey are perfect for each other, but neither can see it.  Trent needs Kelsey to balance out his workaholic life style, but has been burned too many times.  Kelsey has been in love with Trent forever, but doesn't think he could ever have those feelings for her. Trent's best friend entrusts his sister's wellbeing to him while he is deployed over seas.  Trent decides that this means he needs to keep her from falling in love with the wrong guy. After a really bad break up with her fiance, Kelsey decides she needs to expand her herizons, and "find" herself.  She decides this means trying to find a new hobby. The vivid descriptions, solid character development, and constant surprises kept me enthralled.  Trent's antics and Kelsey's sense of humor kept me laughing throughout, and I never knew what was coming next.  This is the first book in the series, and I can't wait to see who's story is next!

This had everything I love in a romance: Killer chemistry with great sexual tension, great humor (laugh out loud moments!), a connection that is more than just sexual, and hot sexytimes. This was a fast read that had some great scenes and fantastic characters. Kelsey is newly single and inexperienced, but that isn't overdone. She wants a guy who won't put his job before her and to grow more as a person. Trent is once bitten twice shy and cant keep Kelsey off of his mind, especially now that she is single again and not avoiding him. These two open themselves up to finding out what they want, which includes expanding their interests. I really enjoyed the non-romantic passions they discovered and feel like it fleshed them out even more, really endearing the reader to the characters and bringing them to life. This is a story of "forbidden love" (not the Shakespeare variety :P) and the sneaking around is entertaining and made for some fun and humorous situations. I liked how Holly, the friend-zoned coworker of Trent's, was included and thought she was a fantastic supporting character with little drama. The one thing I will say isn't exactly a favorite trope is the way the crisis is fixed. The involvement of others, especially Kelsey's ex, improved the cliche, and it was still sweet, but predictable. A couple of days later, I find myself missing these two, which is always a sign of a great story! It was a sexy Romantic Comedy that was really pleasant to get immersed in. :)

Decidedly Off Limits is a steamy, forbidden romance that makes you believe that some rules are meant to be broken and some lines are okay to be crossed. Our main characters in this read have known each other since childhood. Any interest they may had in each other in their lengthy past has always been suppressed due to the multiple, very good reasons why their pairing would be a horrible idea. This might get complicated so I'm going to try to simplify their connections for you. Haha! :P Kelsey, our heroine, has a bestie named Erin. Erin has a brother named, Trent. Trent is also besties with Kelsey's big brother, Liam. (Who happens to be a Navy SEAL.) Although Liam has been attracted to his bff's little sister for a long while, he knows that breaking that particular bro code would probably end badly for him. Likewise, due to an unfortunate incident in thier past, Kelsey already knows what happens when Erin's big brother dates one of her friends. Liam already crossed that line once and the fall-out from when that ended in disaster was enough for Erin to issue a zero-tolerance rule for her friends touching her brother. This story has a bit of a slow burn romance feel but it doesn't really read like one. I found it to be more of a forbidden love story with a touch of girl power thrown in. Our heroine learns how to find herself and stand on her own in this book. She doesn't need a man to define who she is, but she wouldn't mind finding someone who puts her first in their life. Her ex-fiance chose his career over her and she deserves to have someone who worships her. Our book boyfriend, Liam, is a workaholic. He also has a big fear of commitment. In order for him to be worthy of Kelsey's love he needs to first realize the error of his ways and make her a priority. This was a hot read, y'all! I finished this book in two nights and found the story just as entertaining as it was steamy. There were so many characters in this story that I liked and hope to see if they get their own stories in the future! I give Decidedly Off Limits 4.5 out of 5 Stars! This book needs to be on everyone's TBR's! :D Xo- K *I was generously given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Decidedly Off Limits by by Stina Lindenblatt is one of the best books I have read within the “friends to lovers” romance trope. The emotionally charged plot is fresh, original, and funny. The story tugged at my soul over and over again, and I could not stop myself from hoping that the two main characters would be able to find their happily ever after together. Kelsey Quaid is a skillful physical therapist in a children's hospital. She adores her cute little patients, especially when they share their ideas about love and finding a boyfriend. Kelsey may work very hard, but she always finds time for a personal life. In fact, she broke up with her fiance because he cared more about his job than her. Kelsey has always felt something for Trent Salway, her older brother's best friend, who also happens to be her best friend's brother. But being together is an impossibility, due to the understood but inane societal family codes about dating, and the fact that Trent is a workaholic. Seeking excitement and a new direction, Kelsey looks into various hobbies that may spark her interest. Trent loves his job as an investment manager and he is very good at making people money. Relationships are not his thing because managing portfolios is his first priority. He prefers to date without anything strings attached. However, Kelsey has always held a warm place in his heart, and he has always believed that she may be his answer to lifelong happiness. Liam, Kelsey's brother, has asked Trent to keep tabs on Kelsey while he is away on a covert military operation. Needless to say, the situation is gets quite complicated. This is both a fun and passionate love story. Ms. Lindenblatt perfectly combines heat, drama and humor into this fast-paced romantic read. I immediately connected with both Kelsey and Trent, and I cheered them on as they discovered their feelings for one another. I loved the bachelor auction and how Trent let Kelsey know he was in love with her. Overall, this is a terrific book with a happy ending that will leave a smile on your face. This was a fun sexy read and I simply couldn't put it down. Trent and Kelsey were such great characters and I loved the push/pull of their relationship. Trent tries and fails to stay away from Kelsey but the attraction is just too strong. Now he has to figure out how to deal with her brother. You know, the Navy SEAL who's been trained to kill and who asked Trent to keep her out of trouble while he was out on deployment. Kelsey just got out of a relationship six months ago with one workaholic, why in the world would she want to start something up with another. Trent is all work all the time so just NO! Well, maybe. OK maybe just a fling, but when the fling starts feeling like more Kelsey will need to decide if Trent is worth it or if he's off limits! This is a very well done book and it's one I highly recommend.
