I love the way the book is broken down, dealing with each area of life in a separate chapter. Each chapter builds on the last, but they are also independent, so I was able to skim one chapter and thoroughly read the next that felt more applicable to what God was dealing with in my heart without feeling like I'd missed something. The authors also covered life areas well, from physical clutter in our homes, to relationship clutter, to work and schedule clutter. And I loved the chapter on teaching our children to the evaluate clutter in their lives, training them up in this life analysis so it's normal for them and not a life-overhaul like it is for me! Everything they recommended was backed up with solid reasoning and great Scripture. But none of it felt forced or condescending. As I read the chapters, I felt like I was sitting in their living room and they were talking to me from their life experience, mentors passing on what they had learned. And not all of it was learned easily. Within the pages of the book they share mistakes and struggles as well as successes. If life feels stressed out and overwhelming, this might be a great book for you. I would recommend that even if you just want to tweak some things but aren't sure how to proceed, to check out this book. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Reviewed by Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite “Less can actually be more: more gratifying, more satisfying, more manageable and more freeing” is taken from Declutter Now!: Uncovering the Hidden Joy and Freedom in Your Life by Lindon and Sherry Gareis. This quote speaks the truth. Life can be challenging, from work and kids to relationships. Declutter Now! provides a guide in how to make a paradigm shift in decluttering your life. Clutter shows up in different ways - from guilt and depression to fear; it all depends on how you receive it into your life. Take relationships, for example. The Gareis’ show us the various types of unhealthy, cluttering relationships that can greatly impact our lives - from regret, frustration, obligation, being the victim, to shame. To further hit the nail on the head, once you review the chapter titles you will begin to see the true value of this book and why decluttering your life is a crucial step to healing. I enjoyed reading Declutter Now!: Uncovering the Hidden Joy and Freedom in Your Life by Lindon and Sherry Gareis because it encourages freedom. When we are bound by clutter, there is usually a root cause for it. If that clutter is not pulled out at the root, it begins to fester into other things like health issues, financial disasters, toxic relationships and unruly children. Being honest with yourself and willing to do the work necessary to make a change is key. Declutter Now!: Uncovering the Hidden Joy and Freedom in Your Life by Lindon and Sherry Gareis is transparent and touches on every aspect of life.

This isn't just a book about Decluttering your house and home, oh, no. This is a book that goes way beyond that. Declutter Now! starts off small, hitting the physical, and then it takes you into the spiritual and emotional side of the psyche. At the moment of this review, I am only halfway through this book. It's that good and that well written that I had to write a review for it. Taken in small steps, I am slowly doing away with the baggage of the "extras" in my life that is leaving me burdened and un-joyful. Declutter Now! offers insights into the authors' lives, giving examples and testimonies. This isn't just a self-help book. This is a "we'll help you" book. Lindon and Sherry Gareis not only takes the reader step by step through the decluttering process of the home and life, but shows how and what is the most important in life...and it isn't possessions and material goods. The accumulation of things and bad habits and loss of focus drowns most people in this world, tying them down. With Declutter Now! the reader learns how to do without the extra load and how to free oneself from that worldly hold. Truly, less is more.

This book is one of a kind!!!!  Declutter Now! is written by a married couple who write from experience about decluttering everything  in our life, from physical clutter to the clutter of work and relationships. There is nothing that is skipped over. There is even a chapter about teaching our children how to declutter! The Gareises share many of their personal stories , their triumphs and failures.  The use of Scriptures also reveal how clutter keeps us from being all that God intended us to be!  A great read with practical advice  that everyone can use. Even though I have read the book, I find myself going back to certain chapters and rereading them.   It is because of this book that I was able to declutter some of the negative situations in my life and draw closer to God. It was a real eye-opener for me and my life is so much happier and healthier!  If you are looking for ways to declutter your life, look no further!!  You have found the one book that will help you do just that!!

A friend of mine recommended this book, so I figured I'd give it a try. I had it in my purse for a couple of weeks and had kind of forgotten about. Then I was in church and my pastor was preaching about decluttering our lives! So, I took the hint from above LOL and started reading. WOW! I didn't expect this book to impact me so much. I am learning to dig deep and really declutter my relationships, my heart, my house and am filling it up with God!! It has helped me move along in my spiritual growth and am now reading it again to go deeper :) I think this book would make for a good small group discussion and have suggested it to our ministry leaders as the topic for our next retreat. It is THAT good! This is a well written book that is filled with great insight, humor, advice and love.

This book is packed full of sage wisdom by two authors who are living out what they've written. It reaches beyond the scope of expectation. The book isn't just about cleaning out closets and getting organized. It's a "how-to" guide on decluttering yourself from the inside and out. It pushes you to think outside the box and challenges you to evaluate things in your life that you might be ignoring or missing. The book covers all of the bases. There is something in it for everyone! The authors are funny, transparent, and have true hearts for helping others by sharing the lessons they've learned. This is a must read! You won't be disappointed!

This is just not about the Clutter that is around you but its about the clutter that is in you. I have read a lot of books about how to get rid of clutter but I have never read a book where you work from the inside out. I love this book. This book is written by a husband and wife team that met after divorce and trying to bring two houses together into one. There is so many great ideas on all areas of one's life (inside and out) and this is a Christian book so there is reference about God (which what drew me to it). This will be one book that will remain on my bookcase and I will share it with anyone that needs to Declutter their lives inside and out! *Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Declutter Now! was about more than just learning to declutter my home. It was also about decluttering my life & getting to the root issues. I loved the writing style of the book which made me feel like the authors were two friends sitting in my living room chatting with me. (I felt like I had known them all my life!!) I highly recommend Declutter Now! to anyone who has areas of their lives that need some "decluttering" to live a stress free, fulfilled life!!

Declutter Now - So much more than just stuff!, January 9, 2013 This review is from: Declutter Now!: Uncovering the Hidden Joy and Freedom in Your Life (Kindle Edition) With Facebook, Pinterest, email lists, chore charts/apps/reminders and untold numbers of stay-at-home "mom" and housekeeping blogs, free e-books, print materials, and easy to access Kindle books, we are inundated with a plethora of advice about how to organize  our stuff. I thought this would be just another one of those books telling us how to label our boxes, organize our file folders, and plan our meals for the month. No, no, no - so much more - and so much less. First, let me say that you will, indeed learn how to declutter, and it is so very simple to do once you grasp how to manage this is task as detailed in this book. But this is just a small, though important part of this book. The principles of decluttering apply to so many other areas of our lives, hence the remainder of the title:  Uncovering the Hidden Joy and Freedom in Your Life. The ideas in this book do not have to be implemented in any particular order to be effective - have a pressing area that needs attention pronto? Go for it! It's the main decluttering principle of this book applied. Makes this a one size fits all approach! I particularly like that the approach and ideas here do not require the purchase of specific items in order  to be implemented. No special hampers, file folders, dusters, or calendars necessary. This book does pack a powerful punch - it's not that long, but it covers everything, not just your stuff. Easy to read. Love the perspective of a man and woman on this topic. Love the grace and compassion the authors show toward one another and toward the reader. This is a decluttering book with a decidedly Christian and spiritual approach. If you are not Christian, you can still benefit from the principles and ideas and can probably relate to the overall message and instruction, but from your own faith perspective.

This book was a welcome read to start the new year! I was expecting a book on how to declutter my "stuff" in my house, and was so pleasantly rewarded with many chapters dealing with the clutter of "stuff" in my life! Very well written and insightful. I have a better vision of how to put a plan in action to help my physical, mental and spiritual life grow.

What a great surprise, got this thinking it was going to show me how to declutter. It was so much more, it wasn't just about stuff. It is about cleaning relationships, finances. Finding true happiness by appreciating what is really important, releasing the insignificant. How to make space for God. Clearing our minds and hearts so God can show us what is essential as a spouse, parent, friend and child of God. To quote the author, "it isn't that life is too short, it's that life is to long to live with unhappiness or regret." I found my life needs to be filled with good solid strong relationships, prayer, the Holy Ghost and all things Christ centered. This book is insightful, full of humor and practical advice to decluttering our lives.

This book is FANTASTIC! It's a self-help guild that offers so many ways to "declutter" all the areas in your life: home, relationships, finances, body, emotions, even your spiritual life. It's extremely hard to explain just how much this book increases the quality of your life if you apply these principles. Wisdom from God is a guide for all the areas in our lives, and this book helps put it all in perspective. Not only does it help us as adults, but it also shows ways we can teach our children the same principles to help them grow into balanced adults. It's hard not to have tears in your eyes at the end of this book: tears of realization that your life could be better, tears of joy to know that God wants to help you declutter your life, but most of all, tears of hope, that your life can be so much better in the future with God's help. It emphasizes listening to God's Biblical principles and how they can make your life simpler and more rewarding. I highly recommend this book to everyone! It will help every person that reads it!
