Vak and his two consorts, Tiaz and Seid, journey across an unending wilderness to the last remaining kingdom in creation situated astride the Horeb, the lone, white mountain. Their quest's goal seeks to appropriate the fragmentary knowledge of the ancients from the Hiram, the lord of the kingdom by the Horeb, to rebuild civilization anew.
Both a religious allegory concerning Christianity, Gnosticism, and Germanic Paganism as well as an introspective study upon mythology and storytelling, Deep Lie the Roots meditates upon the philosophical history of the latter religions, the problems created by the intersection of the faiths in the Western tradition, and the esoteric versus the exoteric understanding of religion, myth, and story.
