"Possessive. Protective. Territorial. Philip Murphy is exactly what I want in an alpha-male!" - Lynda Chance, New York Times bestselling author

A thrilling new standalone novel from New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren...

Dark. Powerful. Dangerous.

Philip Murphy has all of Chicago under his thumb. Except me.

We met in a perfect storm of violence and lust. He saved me and then disappeared from my life. Now I pretend I never knew that kind of darkness. I focus on midterms and campus parties, as if they can wipe the slate clean.

Then he turns up outside my dorm room--wounded and barely conscious. He's the head of a criminal empire, a powerful man, but he needs me now. There are traitors in his midst.

I can help him, but I can't fall for him.

Not again.

"Intriguing, raw and captivating through the end, this book sizzles with intensity and achingly real characters. Do not miss this!" Lina's Reviews, A Book Blog

Has the right amount of suspense to it. Couldt stop reading it. Love Philip character and love how strong ella is. A must read

I had read all the positive reviews on Amazon and thought, oh this is going to be a great read. So I purchase the book on my nook app and couldn't wait to read. It was a complete disappointment. I was expecting something darker, edgier. I expected Phillip to be more possessive of Elle and would never let her go. Instead I got characters in couldn't connect you and instead of reading because I couldn't wait to see their happy ever after, I was reading just to finish. There was some nice parts to the book is enjoyed but overall, it was just ok. I will not be reading anymore books in this series. I'll maybe try the author again though but I'm finish with the series. The book didn't leave me wanting to know about the other characters stories. :-(

3.6 ~ Dark & angsty plot. Not a fan of lead couple. > > Judging a Book by it's Cover > Looking Deeper First Person, heroine's perspective. Philip is powerful and controlling; brashly arrogant, yet he's just this side of likable. His lifestyle is questionable. She is a brat, in virtually all senses of the word - I guess you could say it's a brat romance, before they became a thing. She's approximately 15 years his junior. What started as a brief NON-SEXUAL encounter when she was a teen, progressed into an almost Obsessed Stalker quality once she was a New Adult. She's still in need of some serious therapy from her ordeal as a teen, her family is crap, her friends are crap. Her choices are juvenile, irresponsible, and reckless. She STILL IS a "broken little girl", yet no one does anything about it. Oh - and she cries a lot and he seems to enjoy putting her in those situations, then coddling and comforting her through it. It's all rather sketchy. Mind games, manipulation... blech, no thanks! HOWEVER..... the writing style and the general, overall plot had a magnetic pull that kept me going back to find out what the heck was going on! By the halfway point, it had become less about Philip and Ella, and more about the story development happening around them. The dark and angsty current that swept me through the chapters offered a dynamic and diversely rich story that I'd normally not pick up to read on my own. There were conflicts of the self-imposed sort as well as outside influences. All of which were addressed for the main couple. Predictability was low. The conclusion was solid, but left me wondering about the future of such characters as Adrian and Tyler. I'd recommend this author for it's dark suspense driven plots and superbly silky flow, but caution that the content is not suitable for more delicate readers. Abduction, prostitution, rape, murder, and the like are present and detailed to various degrees. . This is the first book I have read by Skye Warren, but I have always been tempted, especially with the Chicago Underground series' blurbs. This book can be read as a standalone, and I did myself, so I can confirm that you will still love and understand it fully, though you will find yourself questioning how you stayed away so long and what you are going to do with your newfound Skye Warren addiction. This book was brilliant. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous, steaming hot, full of angst brilliance. I really enjoyed every page of it, and found it beyond hard to put down. Once I finished, I rushed off to grab the rest of the series because I needed more. The characters are created so extraordinarily well. Each one is given the detail and personality needed to really being both themselves and this story to life. It was a very grounded, real read and needed characters that were able to be just that. Each was believable and true, so that you were able to connect with them and grow to love of hate them. The mains were brilliant. They really brought the story together and created just the spark that was needed to really make this book one that I couldn't put down. They were made for each other, even if they didn't want it or didn't know it. From the beginning you could feel the tension and attraction rising between them and wanted to see it happen. I loved the pace of the book, as it really matched the storyline. It gave way to passion and tense action moments, where we were able to have that pushed by adrenaline feeling. I liked that and though it really added to the attractiveness of the read. Overall, I thought this was excellent. As mentioned, I have now gone on to grab more from this author and will continue to do so. I recommend giving the series a go, this book in particular. **I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

When crime lord Philip helps rescue teenage kidnapping victim Ellie it sets up an invisible tie between them, one that Ellie can't forget. And when Philip shows up near death on her dorm room doorstep a few years later, that tie is wound tighter than ever, one she soon realizes is destined to lead to her salvation or her ruin. I really enjoyed this darker edged romance. It takes the idea of a happily ever after, and tinges it with the harsher realities of the seedy underbelly of the city, where crime does pay, but still has dire consequences. Philip is that anti-hero, the one willing to kill to protect the people he cares about, making him a bad guy with a good heart. Now that Ellie is an adult, he no longer has to pretend that she doesn't affect him, and in his home again he's determined to keep her safe. And if safe means in his bed and his arms, then so be it. Ellie is no naive girl - her kidnapping as a teenager opened her eyes to the reality of men and their desires, and she's got no one to trust, except for Philip. And when the attraction between them can't be ignored any longer, she willingly submits to him. The result is some steamy scenes between them, and the development of a real emotional attachment. Nothing is simple between them though, and there are plans afoot to destroy Philip, using Ellie as the bait. The plot moves swiftly, with some action scenes, shocking betrayals and violence amid the lust, and it's with a sigh of relief that in the end, Philip and Ellie get their happy ending. 4 stars for this erotic thriller.

This author is a good writer but the story line of this series, and especially this book, was just too dark for me to relate to.

“Deep” by Skye Warren belongs to the “Chicago Underground” series but can be read as a Standalone. – which basically I did – as it was my first book by this author ever. Normally I am not into “mop” or “crime boss” novels – and it was honestly actually my co-blogger that requested that book first. But when the time for receiving the ARC came – she was busy so I volunteered to read the book to finish the review on time. Finishing that book I am left with on word “WOW” Skye Warren has a great way of capturing the interest of her readers. I can honestly say the book reads well as a standalone – I would have never guessed by the story flow that there had to be more books. During reading there was only one question that popped into my mind that you could consider related to the fact that this is a series and that was that - I could not for the life of me - find out how old Philip actually is. And interesting enough there is no real description of his looks (or did I over read something?) – so those might be points that have been discussed in previous books. I loved the dynamics between the characters and the dialogues were great. There was only one short moment towards the end that the story faltered in my opinion and I was not sure if I was going to lose a star. But somehow – NO – I don’t want to … the story was overall great and if I take into consideration that I am very reluctant with “crime boss” stories me giving 5 stars says plenty about that book. Well actually I am even considering reading the other books by this author as well…

I'm trying to find the words to describe a book that feels like Philip reached out and grabbed me by the throat, pulling me deep into the story!!! I can't even begin to describe the roller coaster ride my emotions took throughout the book from excitement to be reading about Philip once again, to longing for someone to feel that intensely about me (then I changed my mind because Philip is way too intense for me!!) Then the suspense and anticipation was almost unbearable!! I found myself devouring the pages way too fast, so I had to restrain myself and slow down, believe me it was hard!!! You can read this without reading the other books in the Chicago Underground series, but why would you want to deprive yourself from reading one of the best series I have ever read?!! So go get Rough (it's free) then read Hard, Fierce, Wild, Dirty, Secret, and Sweet. I have a favorite quote where Philip describes why he chose Ella. "Because I realized no matter where I went, no matter what I did, no one would ever see me like you did. No one would ever see that deep inside of me- and still want to stay." How awesome is that?!!! Don't you want someone to love you, warts and all?!! Yeah, me too!! So hell yeah I recommend this book, in fact I recommend the whole series!!! You are really missing out if you don't read this book!!! I'm just sorry I'm done...
