Defenders by Will McIntosh

A new epic of alien invasion and human resistance by Hugo Award-winning author Will McIntosh.

Our Darkest Hour.

Our Only Hope.

The invaders came to claim earth as their own, overwhelming us with superior weapons and the ability to read our minds like open books.

Our only chance for survival was to engineer a new race of perfect soldiers to combat them. Seventeen feet tall, knowing and loving nothing but war, their minds closed to the aliens.

But these saviors could never be our servants. And what is done cannot be undone.

A very exciting read of allien invasion and the last resort of man to create geneticly enhanced super beings as a last chance of survival- The writing flows despite multiple viewpoints, some of which like the aliens are outstanding,

Engrossing story, i'm still thinking about it a couple of days ater i read it. Good characters that you care about. Interesting juxtaposition in who you hate and who you like in the story. Honestly could not put it down.

Fast paced, and absolutely terrifying. If you're looking for something that will keep you up at night and continue thinking about it long into the next day, this is the book for you.

The basis for the book is a great idea. An alien race invades the Earth, the humans, us, are losing, and we mess with our own genetic code and let the experiments fight for us. The experiments have flaws, some intentional, some not. Unintended Consequences. The characters are not all fleshed out, two or three are well fleshed out, others not paper thin, but thin. The book could have used another 80 or so pages, not about the story or the events, but more characters back stories and/or more on why certain choices are made. I wonder if the story was originally a short story or a novella and expanded.
