Life isn't always fair, and that's something that Llewellyn Gardner knows about first hand. His life was on the fast track until one night of extreme passion changed everything.
Now eight years later, he's still living with the aftershocks of that night. Everywhere he turns or runs, there's another reminder. What the hell do you do when you try to drown your demons only to find out they can swim?
Shane Smith, Jr. owner of Smith Construction, could see the emotional turmoil within his new employee - it's why he hired him. There was something about the gorgeous, misunderstood man with the overly expressive eyes that came to their small town with a past no one was willing to overlook. Shane could see the good in Llewellyn, and those eyes of his were a clear window to his soul. Shane wasn't going to let the man live a future of solitude because his past had been plagued with deceit.
Llewellyn wasn't sure what to think about Shane. After years of protecting himself from being tricked twice, he was now faced with worry again. What would happen to him if Shane didn't believe his truth, and walked away? Llewellyn wasn't sure he'd be able to survive being left alone. Again.

A.E. Via has done it again. She has given us a book that will capture even the hardest of hearts. Llew and Shane come together by chance, but Shane is just the man to heal Llew's heart. After a terrible injustice to Llew, I was not sure how he was going to survive or if I even wanted him to. The pain was so  real and raw that it radiated off the pages. My heart broke for him! Shane seen past all that to the broken down man and seen him for who he really was. Even though Llew had to go through this traumatic experience it all lead him to Shane and for that I can't be sorry. While this book will tug at your heart strings, it finally comes full circle and you can't help, but shed a tear of happiness for Llew and how he finally found his happiness. -Shauna-

This story has many charterers and they all play important roles in bringing a beautiful, tragic and well written story to life. We have the two main MC’s Llewellyn, who at the age of 18 was accused of raping his then boyfriend, Moss age seventeen. During his time in jail he is befriended by Ace. Ace takes Llew under his wing and protects him from some truly bad men. Eight years later, Llew is out of jail and heading home to his brothers trailer and business. But the welcoming although wonderful from his brother is less than friendly from the town and local police. After finding out his brother has been losing business and being harassed by the local police, Llew decides to head to a different town and start over, again. This is where he meets Shane, Shane owns a construction company and on a chance meeting in the street offers him a job. Llew finally feels like he has gotten the break he needs until his past catches up with him. Shane can see that Llew is a caring soul and doesn’t believe the things people are saying and would like a chance with the man, but can he convince this skittish but beautiful person that he is worth a second chance? WOW, what an emotional roller coaster. First the then eighteen year old Llew, fighting for what he believes in only to realize that the guy he loves/loved Moss may not love him after all. And that money really does talk, when Moss’s Mayor Father steps in and his world comes crashing down. Fast forward eight years, jail has not only harden him but made him realize he will truly never be the same, he will never be able to love again. Just breaks your heart and makes you want to reach in and smack Moss. The supporting characters are just as well written as the main. Lending to an in-depth, heart wrenching, heartwarming, story. This is a very mature story, although I must add there are NO scenes of rape or talk of rape, just the type of story the context itself is mature. This one is not like anything else this author has written, which shows us the growth she has gone through in just a few years. I can’t wait to see what she has install for us next.

Nicole's Review: I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.  This is a hot, sexy, intriguing story that will grab you and squeeze your heart. At 18, Llewellyn has a promising future. He has academic and sports scholarships to his pick of colleges and is in love with his best friend, Moss. Unfortunately, he gets caught with Moss in a compromising by his boyfriend's unaccepting parents. Moss cries rape, and Llewellyn gets sent to prison labelled as a child molester. The story that unfolds is gripping and heart breaking. Llew manages to survive his sentence, and when he gets out, he tries to rebuild his life. That isn't easy when you have to register as a sex offender and no one wants to hear your side of the story. Enter Shane, the hot construction-company owner who can see the truth behind Llew's eyes. This story is so much more than sex. It's about surviving and finding a way to move past something horrible. These men are so swoon-worthy, you will fall in love right along with them. This is the third book I have read by this author and I would gladly read more. Each one just gets better and better. If you love a story of love and survival, this is a must read. Once you start, you won't be able to put it down.

Llewellyn Gardner knows all to well that life isn't always fair. His life was going great until one fateful night of passion halted his future. After 8 years he's still dealing with what happened that night and everywhere he turns has huge reminders.  Shane Smith who owns Smith Construction saw the emotional state his newest employee was in and this was why he was hired as he saw through Llew's pain. Shane saw the beautiful heart in his new hire and wanted to save him and help him avoid living a lonely life due to his past. Can Llew take a chance on love and trust Shane or will the past repeat itself? Wow A.E. Via did it again, she completely blew my mind with her latest novel and this one left me emotionally raw. It starts off with Llew being arrested and sent to prison for the rape of his underage closeted boyfriend after being caught together in a very compromising scene by his boyfriends parents. Then in prison for 8 years and being labelled a child molester even though his boyfriend was 17 and he was 18 was something he never thought he would make it through. If it wasn't for a gang leader named Ace who took care of Llew, he possibly wouldn't have made it through this horrible ordeal without his help. After his release he moves away for a new start and that's when he meets the beautiful and compassionate Shane. Their hot and steamy connection is so undeniably beautifully written and it will draw you in big time. I can't describe enough how much this story affected me and the character of Llew and what he endured, just made me want to protect him. He's a beautiful man with a beautiful heart and soul and is so damaged from his past that it will completely break your heart. I loved that Ace came back into the story as I loved that guy and he's a great addition to the book. Moss does come back to create some drama for Llew as he's trying to start over with Shane and to leave his past behind him if that's at all possible.  The way A.E. Via brings her characters to life is just simply brilliant and how she comes up with these emotionally charged characters is quite amazing. There are some heavy emotional moments in this story that will move you beyond the tears. The hot and I mean hot sex scenes were some of the best I have ever read. Llew is the beautiful alpha and he blends so well with Shane. I just loved the writing from A.E. and I think she has even topped herself with her latest work. The way she creates such emotional characters is so beautifully done. I highly and mean highly recommend...Defined By Deceit by A.E. An Emotionally Gripping Story!! A.E. Via outdid herself with this one. Wow!! I did not expect this story. I definitely did not expect to cry like a baby while reading it. Yet, I did and I'm not ashamed!! But I also laughed and shouted for victory and triumph as well. Defined by Deceit is Llewelyn "Llew" Gardner's story. It was so emotionally powerful and gut wrenching. My heart broke for him, but it also cheered for him. What a good and kind-hearted person he is. And did I mention gorgeous? Llewelyn's story is about lessons learned and forgiveness and true friendship and true love and redemption. Can I just say how much I loved the beautiful Shane Smith Jr.? He and Ms. Pat, who I cannot say enough good things about, were not only willing to give Llew a chance when no one else would, but they also loved him and believed in him. What wonderful individuals!! Llewelyn's older brother Leslie (everyone needs a big brother like Les), Shane's best friend Jack (every guy needs a BFF like Jack in his corner), and the absolutely stunning Ace (everyone could use a friend and protector like Ace)were such well crafted characters!!! I absolutely adored them!! My only complaint with this one is that it is a standalone. There are a few other characters in this one that I would love to read about. Great job on this one, AE Via. I look forward to your next release.
