Really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed the turmoil surrounding the two main characters, and the sexual tension between them. I think it was delivered very well. I do wish though, that the author spent a little more time explaining the destiny connections and the link that occurs when people are destined for each other. It was touches on briefly with Lucy's music and her previous partner, as well as with Seth's parents. I would have liked it expanded on just a bit more. Loved the book though. Couldn't put it down.

Good story but I think the 'soul mate' thing is a little superfluous. These people would have been drawn to each other anyway. It almost pulls you out of the story when someone is referred to as a mate. It's almost as if the author doesn't believe they could exist in this reality. Do I think everyone has one or that they always end up together? No. But I think there are some out there.

This book was amazing! This was my first actual romance book, I normally read paranormal but I must say I loved it. It does have a small touch of paranormal to it being that everyone has one true soulmate. The book is told in both Lucy and Seth's points of view. The characters work very well together and the storyline flows wonderfully. i think my new favorite couple from Deanna Chase's stories is now Lucy and Seth, which is saying alot cause I absolutely loved Kane and Jade from the Jade Calhoun series. Can't wait to see what else happens in this series.

I just want to say that I have held off on reading this book because I do not usually read non paranormal books. I was pleasantly surprise by the idea on this series. Can you image a place where you only have one true soul mate? What if it is someone that doesn't think of the best for you. Well this is what happens to Lucy.  Lucy is a singer together with her soul mate the music they sing together is magical. However, her soul mate is not doing anything he should be for Lucy and he does is think what is best for him. I had thought threw the whole book that he was a complete douche and I was right! Now she has to get her life together after something disasters that have happened. Her life is not set the best place when she meets Seth but neither is his.  Defining Destiny will pull many emotions out of you. Deanna Chase has a way of writing that really blows me away. I really was not going to read this but did because it was from Deanna Chase. I am glad I did. Loved all the characters...  Well most of them. Lol. If you love reading books by Deanna Chase you wouldn't want to miss this one.

I don't typically read a lot of contemporary romance, but Deanna Chase is one of my favorite authors. This was such a touching story. What happens when you can't forgive your life mate or you lose your life mate? Chase tells us about Lucy and Seth and their journey to find each other. Both artists and loads of baggage we find out how they navigate through that and find true love again. It always finds us when we least expect it.

Satisfyingly Sexy and Romantic!! Deanna Chase has done it again! I fell in love with her writing skills in her Jade Calhoun and Crescent City Fae paranormal romance series but didn't honestly know what to expect in her Defining Destiny (New Adult Romance) Series! I was not disappointed! I loved Lucy and Seth's story! These characters were so realistic and beautifully flawed that their story resonated with me. I loved how the story was written in first person from both of their point of views! I highly recommend this book if you love to get lost in a beautiful and deeply sensual romance!!

I think this book has a good plot and had the potential of being a great read. Sadly though, I don’t think the author delivered it well. I was looking forward to reading about Lucy Moore getting a hold of herself and taking over her life and her love life but I didn’t see that happen. Normally, with stories that started the way this one did, you see the heroine or the hero get up from the mess of the relationship they were previously with. Then step by step they started to move on, have a better life, meet someone and find themselves in a better state of what falling in love really meant. I don’t know if I’m just being a silly romantic with these notion so not everyone probably share my opinion on this. But I think I didn’t actually see both of the characters “moving on” and finding a new love. Moreover, Lucy Moore was so confuse all the time regarding what she felt that it made my head ache just reading about her thoughts. I don’t think the soul mate thing actually worked either. I didn’t understand what the author was trying to mean with the soul mate idea because I don’t think it worked that way. The characters (Lucy and Seth) also lacked the background to make them feel real. It’s as if their past was just mentioned to give justice to the conflict and not really as a means to build their characters. The only good part of the novel was the latter part where everything was put into place even though it also felt like the author rushed her way to achieve that happily ever after. When it comes to the characters, I’d say I liked the best friend better than both the hero and heroine. Maybe when the author decide to write her story, I might pick that up and see if her character will be given justice. Though this book, has been lacking for what I look for in a novel, I think the author have the potential of writing better ones in the future and I won’t hesitate to give her work another try.

This is a great love story with a hint of paranormal. Seth is basically a man whore after he suffers the tragic loss of his soul mate. Lucy thought Cadan was hers. When they meet there is an instant attraction but Seth feels guilty and Lucy still feels the pull of Cadan. I was rooting for them to get together and loved the sex scenes, they were tastefully written but steamy. I love the emotional ups and downs and the idea of a soul mate. The book grabbed me from the start and held it to the end. I give it 5 fangs.

What an awesome into to the Defining Destiny series! I loved the unique theme. It was romance with hints of rocker and almost paranormal with the soul mate aspect. It all blended really well together and made for an emotional ride. I was easily drawn into Lucy and Seth’s world and couldn’t put the book down. I was so glued to it, I read it in one afternoon. Seth and Lucy have this instant connection that everyone hopes for. The problem? Well technically their technically not each other’s soul mates and in a world where that is the norm they struggle with the connection. You might want to have a fan near you because things get pretty steamy several times. I loved their personalities. Their easy banter had me laughing. Their friend Jax was wonderful too.  The story flowed really well and it was an easy read. You’ll experience a gambit of emotions but it is so worth it. I easily found myself rooting for Seth and Lucy despite the odds against them. It was a wonderful and heartfelt story. I look forward to more from this series. Fantastic job and a 5 out of 5 stars!

TRUE LOVE OR DESTINY ************************************************ Series: Destiny #1 Category /Genre: NA, Paranormal Romance Received from: Deanna Chase (in exchange for an honest review) Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: A – near perfect This is the first book in the Destiny series. It does stand alone (no cliffhanger). In this unique world written by Deanna Chase, there is a soul mate for each person. Your soul mate will be the other half of your magical team. For Seth and Elena, together they create masterpieces in oil paints. Seth’s parents are master gardeners. For Lucy and Cadan, it’s music. When they sing, the audience is filled with indescribable joy. Unfortunately, being a soul mate does not guarantee happiness with each other. Lucy’s mother and her soul-mate seem to only have the gift of discordance, Cadan is a grade A ass, and Seth has lost Elena in a car accident and blames himself. How will Lucy choose between her soul mate and the man she loves? I loved this story and could not put it down. The story is kept at a quick pace and continually moving forward towards the decisions that need to be made. Lucy has the largest decisions. Can she take the leap of faith to trust another person or will she allow the past hurts by others flavor her life forever? Can she choose love over destiny? I look forward to continuing this series. I’m hoping the next story has Lucy’s best friend, Jax, finding her soul-mate. She has been such a loyal friend to both Lucy and Seth; she deserves her own HEA.

Deanna Chase has once again captured readers attention with a unique and captivating story. She successfully challenges the idea of "soul mates" and shows another way to have a happy ending. With characters you instsntly feel connected to and a story that hooks you from the beginning she shows readers that love comes in many forms. I love the depth of the characters and the different story lines that intermingle throughout the book. I hope she continues this series so we can see more of this fantasy world she has created.

4 stars! I rate books by the level of emotion an author can pull from me and Deanna Chase hooked me from chapter one! What Lucy goes through with her soul mate. The feelings Lucy experienced when she sings. All of her emotions were so well portrayed that I was right there with her. Chase did an awesome job with developing real and lovable characters. And Seth. Oh my god, I loved Seth and felt so bad for him at the same time. Most of the time, he was the one I was rooting for not Lucy. Which is rare for me. I usually get attached to the heroine in a story, but Seth just got under my skin. In a good way. There were times when I couldn’t stand Lucy’s best friend, Jax. But I still liked her and hope she gets her own story someday.  Not all the characters were lovable. Cadan. Ugh, just thinking about the guy makes me ill. And Lucy’s mother! If this book is part of a series, I hope we get to see that lady again so I can read about how she gets what she deserves. No wait. Married to that man she calls her soul mate is punishment enough. Obviously, the exceptional way Chase portrayed her characters was what I loved most about this book. This was the first book I’ve read from this author and I’m looking forward to more. I have to admit, the soul mate thing threw me off a bit. I didn’t realize that this book was a light paranormal. I kept thinking that it was weird the way everyone believed in soul mates like they were vampires or werewolves. It wasn’t until after I finished the book and read some of the reviews that it was meant to be considered paranormal. But that’s the only paranormal part in the book. It’s a world where everyone has one soul mate. ** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. **

I’m one of those people who just adores it when a unique, but realistic blend of real life and fantasy is mixed in fiction. I’m all for full on fantasy, but in these kind of stories, I need the spiritual side of the story to seem real, which in turn makes the characters feel real to me. Defining Destiny was an absolute gem of a novel, and from the word go and I just knew that this was going to be a favourite of mine. I loved how author Deanna Chase created a really great concept of people having only one soul-mate, and this being the accepted norm for everybody and not just a long-forgotten myth that was brought about in the hippy era. I adored how the idea of soul-mates drove every action of the characters lives, and that without that one person, you aren’t considered to be whole. I loved reading of Lucy’s fight for her right as a woman to be treated with respect, and to make her own choices. Her soul-mate Caden was one of those guys who I just wanted to grab out of the book and hit around the head with a mallet (I’m not usually a violent person, but he would honestly deserve it). I hated how he used his and Lucy’s connection to keep her with him, despite him not treasuring her or treating her as she deserves. His sleeping around was one thing, but using their soul-mate connection and Lucy’s deepest hurts to enhance his own career was just plain selfish and worthy of a great whack of a mallet, especially since Lucy so often made excuses for him, and let herself take the brunt of the pain because he had made her believe that he was in the right. I loved the idea of fighting destiny that the author used as the main thread throughout the novel. It was well-paced as well, with both Lucy and Seth mourning the loss of their soul-mates within appropriate time-spans and their connection with each other, and their relationship developing at a brilliantly tempting and tantalising pace. I adored how their relationship came about, and just how they could be themselves around each other, with no expectations of having to perform to anyone else’s expectations. I can’t express how much I loved this story, Lucy and Seth were such a brilliant, and dynamic couple, and one that I rooted for throughout. I have always loved the idea of soul-mates, as well as the title known as ‘twin flames’. Although it wasn’t mentioned in this book, I felt like Lucy and Seth were twin-flames, with a deeper connection than even that of a soul mate. They were alike, yet different enough to invoke flames between them and it was so exciting to join them on their journey. This was an absolute pleasure to read, and whilst I hoped throughout that Seth and Lucy could get their happily ever after, I always had that lurking worry in the back of my mind that they couldn’t hide from their destiny that would lead them to other people. Deanna Chase had carefully entwined this fear within me, which had my heart racing as I read the last few chapters, even holding my breath as I waited for their outcome. That shows the true talent of this author, and makes her one that I would read again in a second. A truly beautiful story that really touched the romantic (and the deep down rebel) in me. 5 Stars

Good story line, very different from other books written by Deanna Chase. Somewhat heavy on the profanity particularly in the beginning, but overall Lucy & Seth's story pulls you in.

Another amazing book from Deanna Chase! Different from her previous books, very light on the paranormal but as usual characters you just can't help but falling in love with!! And the steamy scenes are fabulous without being "too much"! Can't wait for the next installment.
