What People are Saying About This

Dave Eggers

This is a book of astonishing originality and power. In Delicious Foods, James Hannaham has created a wholly new world—a hallucinatory place shot through with struggle and terrible deeds—but one never lacking light or hope. Hannaham reinvents the Southern gothic with prose at once brutal and lyrical and drop-dead gorgeous. This is a hell of a novel. —Dave Eggers, author of A Hologram for the King and The Circle

A brilliant book. Smart, very funny, and very dark, this is one of the best new novels I've read in a long time. Particularly enjoyable is the character Scotty (the drug crack cocaine given a voice), allowing us take delight in what is otherwise a deeply disturbing tale of modern-day slavery, drug addiction, and the myriad complexities of growing up African-American in the Deep South. A must-read for any fans of Flannery O'Connor, Chris Rock, James Baldwin, Cormac McCarthy, and Richard Pryor.

A historical look at race, poverty, life, addiction, and religion under the guise of a riviting story. I was blown away.

I didn't know what to expect but I loved this book. This is a book you re-read because you were so astounded the first time. You have to go back and make sure you take it all in.
