CHAPTER 1

A Vessel Chosen

1 John 5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

We are chosen vessels suited for the Savior's service; therefore, bodies offered as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto the Lord, will be used. God can and will use anybody for his work. Where the creature is limited, the Creator is unconstrained. When we increase, it is He. He equips his chosen vessel with the knowledge and know-how to perform. God listens to our prayers, and answers according to his will. We are his beloved and his desire is towards us.

Prayer:

Father, allow me to recognize that all good comes from you, and that all work together for my good. Allow me to respect the vessel in use and increase my desire to please you. Accept me as a living sacrifice, a body made ready for your service. Let me reach out to my fellowman in deeds aided by faith. Let my works not be in vain, but administered according to your will as I accept and perform my duties in your service. Amen.

Abounding in Faith

John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Doubt exposes a lack of faith. We want to 'see' in order to believe. Although this is understandable of human nature, spiritually, it is unacceptable for that which we see is not faith. "Lord, show me a sign ..." By this, we lay out the fleece looking for the dew (Judges 6:37-39). Things are going well, finances are good and we are living the good life. Conversely, when "the good life" suddenly vanishes, what then? Most of us will become fearful encouraged by limited intellect. When we believe and trust God, we please him, thus we walk in his good and perfect will. When we are obedient and faithful, God's promises comforts. Our unfailing belief in Jesus Christ renders Satan's attacks void and powerless. Evil has no authority where faith abounds.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, you said that the just shall live by faith, and without faith it is impossible to please you. Allow me to do all things in faith, giving you the glory. I ask this and all blessings in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Adversity or Advice

Sometimes adversity can be avoided by listening to and heeding the advice of those who have been before us.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, help me to understand and accept words of advice, when bible based and scripturally sound. Give me wisdom to seek, recognize and adhere to wise counsel. Amen.

Change

Today, we are caressed by optimistic winds, buoyant by the powers of progress. Insightful eyes gaze confidently into the future, with inspired imagination, while the clarion call for change echo in the corridors of hope. The caveat of "no, you can not" has ridden the waves of time. Today, battered against the shores of increased expectations, despair has disintegrated in the deafening roar, "Yes, we can!" As the tide ebbs, we discover among the frothing waters, an undying dream.

Extraordinary boldness, inspired by a dream for change, has materialized from the bowels of a suppressed people. This desire for change refuses to be subdued, no matter the rational of resistance and seemingly impossibility. Even change as we know it, has changed. Change has been revolutionized, reconstructed and redefined emerging in an unexpected hue. This change enhances integrity, hope and inspiration, which grants us a glimpse of the amazing achievements that can be accomplished during these times, by these people.

Now is the time for all things. This is the time to cry and the time to refrain from crying. This is the time to embrace and refrain from embracing. This is the time to speak and the time to be silent. This is the time to rejoice and refrain from rejoicing. This is the time to sow, and the time to reap. This is a time to change and a time to look to the One Who Changes Not.

In our euphoric state of anticipation, exhilaration, and triumph; let us not forget to acknowledge our God. Our hopes and dreams are not fulfilled by man alone; nor is it possible for man to douse the perpetual spiritual fires that burn within our souls. In our quest for acceptance, in our quest for bigger and better, in our quest for a slice of the American pie, we can easily become distracted by the vessel, thus allowing the vision to vanish. Hearts and minds must not be consumed by the creature, instead, if there is confidence, if there is trust, bestow all upon the Creator.

As we look into the future, the chasm is wide, the abyss hazy across the horizon. Hope is a slender thread connecting the aspirations of ancestors and the expectations of new generations. What has materialized is a promise in the land as foreseen by our forefathers. The Promised Land bequeathed to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was obtainable only when the Chosen People were united and aligned in faith with the God of Abraham. So it is with us. As we turn from fear and doubt to faith and hope, let our achievements be in attributed to an Everlasting God who can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Then we will truly embrace an everlasting ... change.

Commemorating President Barack Obama's Election 1/19/2009

Prayer:

Dear Lord, hear our prayers for a better America, heal the land and protects us in our journey throughout this barren land. We are strangers in a world that is not our home. Amen.

Christianity

Contemporary Christianity, in its pursuit of political correctness, tolerance and acceptance, teeters on the rim of carnality. Humanity has insisted on lowering the mark of a higher calling and today's Christianity, by it acquiescence, has sanctioned this divergence. Impersonation of morality hides behind a masquerading mask of mockery and deception, demanding to be recognized, categorized, and patronized as divine excellence. Misguided modesty craves and insists upon the promised abundant life, yet the sacrifice, commitment and purity required for such a life is ridiculed and touted as archaic. Self denial is practically non-existent in the pursuit of negotiated Christianity. Does anyone even recognize that Christianity is being compromised?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I want to be counted worthy of righteousness. Help me to attain the mark of a high calling in Christ Jesus. Help me to rise above the norm, transcend acceptance sanctioned by the majority, and strengthen me as I strive for your approval. Amen.

Decisions

The choices and decisions we make should reflect the Word of God. Righteous requests are met when actions reflect the will of God. Emotional choices driven by feelings alone are easily derailed. A good choice reaps favorable benefits; however, Godly choices outweigh good choices. A Godly choice allows us to live richly and in abundance. A choice made in obedience to God and in his favor multiplies. The decisions we make have an effect on loved ones and friends. Seeds sown, good or bad, reaps a harvest. At the point of crossroads, choose Jesus.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please be with me and magnify your guiding light as I make this decision. Move self out of the way and replace me with your spirit. Teach me the right way; grant patience to wait on you. Let me not be hasty in my decision making and grant moderation in my desires. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Desires of Thine Heart

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Every desire should be tested against Scripture. God does not satisfy flesh; only the divine desires of the righteous are established. The indwelling Holy Spirit produces a godly walk. He plants in us the desire to talk right. He gives us the desire to live a life of godliness. When we submit ourselves to God, he works in and through us. The scriptures say, "Blessed is the man whom he causes to approach unto him." (Psalms 65:4) We must ask the Lord to give us the desires of our heart; otherwise, we lean to our own understanding. Carnality leads to fleshly desires. We err because we know not the scriptures or the power of God (Matthew 22:29). When our heart's desire is rooted in righteousness, we boldly approach the throne of grace. If desires are not godly-inspired, then prayers availeth little. Prayers of faith are not always answered immediately. Deliverance and blessings don't always come when we feel they should. Recognize that no and wait are answers as well.

Prayer:

Lord, I embrace you in all that you grant me, for you are the giver of my desires. Let my desires be of you and within your holy will. I know that your will is granted according to your tender mercies, so I wait for the God of my salvation, for in due time I shall reap. I ask this and all blessings in Jesus' name. Amen.

Establish My Thoughts,

Direct My Path, Order My Steps, Prepare My Heart

Procrastination provides the niche Satan needs to slip in doubt and discouragement. When there is doubt, faith is lacking. Where there is faith, doubt finds no foothold. The Bible tells us that faith without works is dead. There are works and then there are faith-works. Our love for the Father increases our faith. Our daily walk is focused with faith. God's way of keeping his chosen people on their providential path is like unto a shepherd herding sheep. Our way is predestined from birth, thus we rest in the knowledge that our steps are ordered by God. In the classroom of Christ, we are perpetually in our proper place. Where we are today is the perfect place to start a blessed life. Sincere worship and praise causes God to prepare our heart and order our steps.

Prayer:

Lord I know that it is not by chance that I am where I am. I pray earnestly that you will establish my thoughts, direct my path, order my steps, and prepare my heart. I thank you, dear heavenly Father for loving me and showering me with tender mercy. Set me on the road to righteousness; send your Holy Spirit that I may endure until the end. I ask this and all blessings in Jesus' name. Amen.

Except the Lord Build the House

Psalm 127:1: Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

There are numerous programs aired on television that encourages home decorating and beautification, with an abundance of retail stores offering products for the adornment of the home. These decorations transform the house into a wonderfully inviting living space. Ever wonder how the adorned home compares with the sanctified soul? Is the spirit attired with the garment of praise? We derive pleasure in showcasing our homes, surrounding ourselves with precious, pricey, and pretty things. Conversely, do we spend time beautifying and decorating our heart, mind and soul? If our heart was on display, what would others see?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father. Teach me to build my house according to your blueprint so that my home will stand. Give me a sound mind and a clean heart and take my mind off material things. Please allow your spirit to fill every room in my home. Amen.

Expectations

An individual of many dimensions can be hampered by another's expectations. At best, such a character will strive to meet the level of expectancy; at worst, an individual, capable of exceeding imposed expectations, will do just enough to satisfy. Expect nothing from anyone, however if you do, use as the basis of your expectation, an understanding of the individual, his/her capabilities and availability, ultimately, their relationship with God. The level of an individual's potential is specifically engineered to carry out their responsibilities in life. Human expectations limit vision and dampers imaginations.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father. Let me not work to please man, but rather let my endeavors be acceptable unto you. Help me to perform at a level which utilizes my talent at its greatest potential, for only you know the limitations of my capabilities. This I ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

Fault Finding

In fault finding, we gather negative material sufficient to maintain the attitude that we are okay. This practice of fault-finding is destructive. It hinders spiritual growth and prevents an individual from realizing greatness. The most important thing to remember is that the person under critical eye is human, therefore, flawed. Our perception of reality is debatable. If we are not guilty of the focused upon fault, this knowledge becomes the hoist whereby we precariously lift ourselves above others. The cable holding the hoist is thin, capable of breaking.

Prayer:

Father, allow me to be more compassionate when I witness weaknesses in others. Help me not to spread malicious gossip, but give me the courage to help in acceptable circumstances. Growth is generated by seasons so permit me to be of assistance when others are in the seedling stage. Amen.

Fingernails in Familiar

God wants to do new things in our life, but we are afraid of letting go. We are afraid to reach out, so we tighten our grip on the small stuff. Our spiritual walk is unsuccessful when we keep our fingernails in familiar. Letting go requires faith. As we believe, so shall it be. When you can't see your way, let go. When there is more night than day, let go! When the road gets rough, let go! When times get tough, let go! When friends are gone, let go! When things go wrong, let go! Let go and let God do what he does best; work the impossible, unfeasible, miraculous, and incomprehensible. Abraham released all that was familiar, yet God called him alone and increased him. Let us press forward when the world is moving against us. A small seed of faith can yield life in abundance. Refuse to 'hang on' any longer! Refuse to 'hold on'; instead, LET GO! Fingernails freed from familiar foster freedom. Release and increase.

Prayer:

Lord, remove the Spirit of unbelief, which causes me to 'hang on'. Let me run with the vision. You are a God of excellence and by your Spirit, I shall excel. As I believe, so shall it be done! Amen

Give Generously

I have four brothers and three sisters. If ever I need anything, they all come through with openhanded offerings. I have been blessed with a very generous and loving family. I have found that the easiest and the quickest way to broaden your territory and enlarge your coast is to be a cheerful giver. When we give, we receive. We receive love, understanding and a feeling of goodwill. The Lord blesses a generous heart. When we give out of a sincere heart, we are enveloped with a sense of peace. Opening up and sharing with others is like taking a piece of the sun and placing it inside self, allowing our insides to bask in glorious warmth. Help your fellowman on the road to glory. Cultivate a charitable spirit which gives peace of mind. The recipient's appreciation and gratitude deposits rays of light, energy and hope throughout our being. That which we give the Lord will repay again.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, enlarge my heart for service to others. Help me to see the need and allow me to move without hesitation. My desire is to give in abundance as I follow your example. Amen.

God's Will for Me

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Have you ever asked, "What is God's will for me?"

It is God's will that ...
we put to silence the ignorance of foolish man
we be apostles
we suffer for his sake
we abstain from fornication
we give thanks
we be delivered from this present evil world
that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may
have everlasting life

Prayer:

Lord, help me to realize my utmost desire and that is to accomplish your will for my life. Amen.
