On the day of her mother's funeral, Megan Donnelly finds a mysterious package on her dresser wrapped in faded brown paper and twine. She has no idea where it came from or how it got there. Somehow, despite her grief, the bundle of faded brown paper and twine has a strange power over her, as if she were spellbound. Inside the package, Megan finds an old leather-bound journal.
Curious, Megan begins to read the story about a strange girl named Delphi Altair. Delphi, who lives with her foster parents in an old Sea Captain's manor, discovers she is being pursued by dangerous alien creatures who are trying to kidnap her or worse. Donovan, a new student at her school, befriends Delphi and together with Nikkos, an alien Watcher sent to protect Delphi, embark on a treacherous journey into the unknown.
Megan, fascinated by the journal, comes to realize Delphi's mysterious quest is more than a story, it is terrifyingly real and Megan is somehow involved. Megan's life is about to change in ways she could never have imagined.

About the Author

K.D. Dowdall was born in New England and spent elementary-grade school years in Granby, Connecticut. K.D's family's home was located on the edge of a large forest preserve in an old farming community that was known as the Salmon Brook Settlement (Circa 1680). K.D. grew up with five siblings and eight cousins. K.D. writes how they frolicked in the hauntingly beautiful forest, swam in the bubbling Salmon Brook, and iced-skated on a "haunted" pond in winter. They spent much of their time searching for arrowheads, broken colonial pottery and fossilized bones in the forest. It was these growing up years that led to K.D.'s love of culture arts, fables, fantasies, and fairytales created by the peoples who inhabited the land long ago. Along the way, it was K.D.'s good fortune to live in the Republic of China, Saudi Arabia, and England. Each cultural experience reinforced K.D.'s belief that all cultures are rich in storytelling. DELPHI ALTAIR Strange Beginnings was written as a fantasy adventure story for everyone. Like Lewis Carroll, K.D says, "Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
